Canadaigua Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 LDS don't believe this verse pertains to the spiritual creation of man, but rather the physical creation-God the Father and Jesus Christ made our bodies in Their image and after Their likeness. In other words, our bodies look like They look. But Jesus didn't have a physical body at that point and we were already like Jesus in that we had a spiritual body just like his.
bluebell Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 But Jesus didn't have a physical body at that point and we were already like Jesus in that we had a spiritual body just like his.We were not like God the Father, who does have a glorified physical body. Besides that, LDS believe that our spirits look just like our bodies-two arms, legs, etc.
ERayR Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 But Jesus didn't have a physical body at that point and we were already like Jesus in that we had a spiritual body just like his. So what is the problem?
Flyonthewall Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 The quote that you provided simply affirms that the LDS Jesus is different from the Christian Jesus. Were you not aware of this? You have some serious reading comprehension disabilities. What it affirms is that we believe in the same Jesus, but we believe different things about Him. Be honest. Does this concept boggle your mind? Is it totally beyond your comprehension skills? Look at these words: President Hinckley is referring to the concept of Christ that has developed in the centuries since the Nicene Creed was formed. I am tempted to paste the same thing again but it would be pointless. Just read the information I pasted in it's entirety - I understand that is not what you do, but give it a try - you might actually learn something. 1
Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 So what is the problem?Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. . . How is Jesus' image and likeness different than his other spiritual brothers and sisters?

Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 "Look at these words: President Hinckley is referring to the concept of Christ that has developed in the centuries since the Nicene Creed was formed."Let's compare the Jesus that Christians believe in and compare it the one that Mormons believe--find the differences and see which one is supported by the Bible. I will start with this one 1. LDS believe that Jesus was begotten and born to Heavenly Parents and raised to maturity in a pre earth life. Can you support this one from the Bible?
Flyonthewall Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Again this quote simply affirms that President Hinckley's statement that Christians and Mormons believe in a different Jesus. You asked me to be honest but perhaps you could do the same. How is the Jesus that Mormons believe in different than the one that Christians believe in?Before anything else, answer me this - Can you understand that different people can believe different things about the SAME person? So far, what you have put forward is that if two people believe different things about person X, then a second person comes into existence, and now there are two different person Xs.

President Hinckley has stated that the Mormon Jesus and the Christian Jesus are different. Here is another reference from the Ensign that says that they are different. "It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For example, from the Church of England’s Articles of Religion, article one, I quote: “There is but one living God, everlasting, without body, parts, or passions.” The Living Christ Ensign May 1977

Even though their characterization might be wrong, you really are talking about the same person. That is what I think Hinckley meant by that.

Even though their characterization might be wrong, you really are talking about the same person. That is what I think Hinckley meant by that.I think it's interesting that people can and do come up with different concepts of God using scripture from the Bible alone, including Christians who can and do that. It's only when people really try to see that all scriptures can harmonize, whether in the Bible alone or in all other scriptures. What we have here is someone who doesn't seem to really want to see the harmony between the Bible and other scriptures. He may say he would like to but his actions don't show it. You might as well talk to a wall than talk with someone like him in his current mindset because he's not even willing to really pay attention.

Flyonthewall Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) And is this not endless ? [The different Jesus criticism]. In His Debt/Grace Anakin7That link did not lead anywhere. I have already posted a link that addresses this issue. In the link I posted it says this: President Hinckley understood how the critics would attempt to portray Latter-day Saints with regard to their belief in Christ: As a Church we have critics, many of them. They say we do not believe in the traditional Christ of Christianity. There is some substance to what they say. Our faith, our knowledge is not based on ancient tradition, the creeds which came of a finite understanding and out of the almost infinite discussions of men trying to arrive at a definition of the risen Christ. Our faith, our knowledge comes of the witness of a prophet in this dispensation who saw before him the great God of the universe and His Beloved Son, the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. They spoke to him. He spoke with Them. He testified openly, unequivocally, and unabashedly of that great vision. It was a vision of the Almighty and of the Redeemer of the world, glorious beyond our understanding but certain and unequivocating in the knowledge which it brought. It is out of that knowledge, rooted deep in the soil of modern revelation, that we, in the words of Nephi, “talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that [we and] our children may know to what source [we] may look for a remission of [our] sins” (2 Nephi 25:26). [4] President Hinckley was quite clear in his position regarding Christ: Are we Christians? Of course we are Christians. We believe in Christ. We worship Christ. We take upon ourselves in solemn covenant His holy name. The Church to which we belong carries His name. He is our Lord, our Savior, our Redeemer through whom came the great Atonement with salvation and eternal life. [5]But alas, it is beyond comprehension to some that we can believe in the same God, but believe different things about Him. Edited January 6, 2015 by Flyonthewall

Flyonthewall Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 You believe in three separate and distinct gods and you say that this is the same as the one God that the Christians believe in. What is beyond comprehension is that you are trying to say that the gods that you believe in is the same God that Christians believe in. If you believe that you are right why not simply admit that they are different?Still not answering eh? Confirmation that it is beyond your understanding. They are the same God, we simply have different beliefs about the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. I have been saying that from the start - same person, different beliefs about him. Trinitarians say they are 3 distinct persons, each individually God, but somehow they are not 3 Gods, but 1. Explain that without contradicting information. If they are are each individually God then there are 3 Gods - united in one purpose. Tell me - the story of the 5 blind men and the elephant - how many different elephants were they referring to?

Of course I agree. I have no qualms about acknowledging your errors. If you would like to honestly find out the truth contact a Mormon missionary. 1
Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I disagree with your conclusion. It is wrong. Period.I have given you two quotes from your own leaders that disagree with your conclusions.
thesometimesaint Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I have given you two quotes from your own leaders that disagree with your conclusions. If you want 3 different opinions just ask 2 Mormons what they believe. That being said quote mining really doesn't serve your cause. Whether you believe Barrack Obama is best President of the US or the worst we're still talking about the same person.
ERayR Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I have given you two quotes from your own leaders that disagree with your conclusions. So, of what significance is that. I wager that were I to look I could find more times than that where you disagree with your leaders.
Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 So, of what significance is that. . .That is what this thread is about. Mormons are not consider Christian by other Christians because you believe in a different God (gods in the case of Mormonism) and follow a different gospel.

Mormons are not consider Christian by some other Christians. I actually know quite a few non-LDS Christians who do believe that I am also Christian and they would not want to be included in your beliefs on the subject. They would also remind you that you don't speak for all of Christianity. 3
