Why Aren't Mormons Christian?

A better word would be Henotheism.

I found a better word:  Monolatrism.  Henotheism is more like the Greek gods.  Monolatrism means God is one God of many.  Henotheism is a pantheon.  Polytheism is all gods true and false.

Polytheism.

Yep - I'm polytheist and proud of it.

EDIT - actually I like that word Monolatrism - a new one for me.  Still ok with being a polytheist.

Jesus said in the Doctrine and Covenants:  that we are all as one (the Saints) because it was even as He is (I AM). I believe all the Gods are one, even the endless chain of Fathers and Sons, and they are all Love and that there is only one Holy Spirit who fills all of existence and in God all things consist.  The Spirit is in and through all things.  And that puts my beliefs at odds with even others of my own faith, but they would still consider me a Christian.  Evangelicals and other sects would brand me a heretic.

The oneness of God is one of the major themes of the Old Testament. It was the major theological idea that separated the Hebrews from their neighbors.

Israel did not believe there were three personages that made one God. That is a Christian invention and I have no doubt Jews would reject your over lay of Nicene theology on their scripture.

Oh and not until really many years after they settled Isreal. Early Isreal doctrine allowed for lesser Gods than Yaweh as well as a council of Gods. They were more Henotheistic than Monothestic.

It did start with the Johsian reforms and the Deutoronomy verse you site which certianly was not written by Moses.

Yes, the Trinity was not revealed to man until the first century CE in the New Testament.

Moses wrote the Torah. The Bible is true. The Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price are not true.

CFR - that's right, I want PROOF that they aren't true.  And you cannot use your false interpretation of the Bible or prooftexting as proof.  Find me some actual evidence that they are not true.

If you're going to make childish claims, back them up with proof.

Thus using a source from the OT to prove three are one substance is ludicrous.

No Moses didn't write it all. I fact we don't know if there really was a Moses.

You need to do some study in biblical textual criticism. It is clear you have no idea what you are talking about .

Alma 20:6 Now when Lamoni had heard this he caused that his servants should make ready his horses and his chariots.

Horses did not exist in the Americas before Columbus.

D&C 87:1-3 Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place. For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations.

The US Civil War did not result in the nations of the world fighting. The United Kingdom and France remained neutral in the war.

Yes, Moses wrote the Torah. We know that there was someone named Moses. Jesus spoke of him by name.

Ask one of those theologically liberal scholars what he thinks of the Book of Mormon.

are you kidding? Europe in the last half of the 19th century was war all over the place and leading up to one of the worst wars, if not the worst in human history. Check out the unification of Germany and that whole scene and battles and the Crimean War and other hostilities. How do you read that the US Civil War will cause other wars? I don't read it that way. I see French involvement in the US what Canada was like in the Vietnam War, nothing official but unofficially yeah kind of

The Crimean War was before the US Civil War.

The worse wars were in the 20th century and were not related to the US Civil War.

Definitely debatable.  There are MANY non-LDS sites on the internet arguing that yes they did.

Ridiculous - #1 The British and the French BOTH interfered in the Civil War, and directly on the heels of the Civil War came the Spanish/American War, the Boer War, and finally WWI and WWII (which basically included all nations).  The Civil War was just the first step as Joseph predicted.

Book of Abraham = Inspired revelatory writing prompted by the facsimiles.  Joseph may have thought he was translating, but to me the BOA is a new revelation.

God made Moses a lord. There is but one God.

Exodus 7

fair point! You were reading that verse as saying that the US Civil War caused all these wars, which we both know isn't correct and so the verse still stands as a true prophecy of Joseph Smith's, war came but not because of the US Civil War
