Antoni Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 HI all, got my first calling and I'm REALLY excited - I'm going to be teaching the Gospel Principles class in Sunday School. My 2 and a bit years investigating church and my prior Bible College course I feel have prepared me for this. Several of class had quite open and deep chats with me after church in Sunday so feel I'm in the right place. Just need to make sure I'm open and sensitive to the Spirit. Prayers appreciated! Light, Love and Peace 4
halconero Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 No way, that's such a rad calling. I had it in my Spanish ward up until a few months ago. You'll be surprised how much you learn as you teach too.
Kenngo1969 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 There are two essentials to being a great teacher (in addition to following the Holy Spirit, of course ) that you already have that will ensure your success:Love what you teach; and Love whom you teach.Congratulations! 2
rpn Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Have fun with it. It will probably be the last calling you "feel prepared" for.
drums12 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 If you can afford it, I recommend ordering "Teaching by the Spirit" by Elder Gene R. Cook. It's a talk on CD, and taught me more about the subject than anything else I've ever read or heard. He also authored a book of the same name, but I recommend just getting the talk. http://www.amazon.com/Teaching-Spirit-Gene-R-Cook/dp/1590383907/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1406580290&sr=1-1&keywords=teaching+by+the+spirit 1

Doctrine 612 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 This is a great calling, I taught that class twice. I used the manual and scriptures to teach the doctrine and asked a lot of question, also told lots of stories. 1
