Dgal Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 How so incredibly wonderful that he has not sensed an "ex-Mormon" spirit in you. Sounds like he never sensed that you were ever really an exMormon, but simply disaffected Mormon. 1
Garden Girl Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Needless to say, Steve, I'm soooo happy... in fact "happy" is inadequate to describe the feelings, i.e., joyful, estatic, wonder-filled, grateful... etc etcAnd the journey continues... Prayers... GG 3
UtahTexan Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The missionaries showed up at 5:30 am today to walk 5 miles again. We have really interesting discussions. They are full of questions and seemed genuinely interested in the answers. They also seem very proud of the fact that "no other missionary in Texas is walking 5 miles at 5:30 am" 1

And are you the best source for these answers?
UtahTexan Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Questions about what? And are you the best source for these answers? The best? Doubtful....but certainly not bad
UtahTexan Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Thank you all who supported me. I wish you all the best and I hope my journey is fruitful. 3
Popular Post UtahTexan Posted March 24, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 24, 2015 Back in 1983, when I became LDS, my family was not pleased. I ended up being "adopted" by an LDS family. I ended up being the oldest of 7 kids. I lived with them for awhile and they were my "eternal" family. When I left the church, that relationship deteriorated. It was no one's fault. It just happened. There were bad feelings....again...no one's fauly...or maybe everyone's fault. It does not matter. I spoke last week with one of the kids....who was also my closest friend back then. It was very nice to speak to him. Last night, I skyped with Mother and Father. That was the first time I have spoken with them in 25 years. They welcomed me back into into the "family". When the Lord gets going, watch out! 7

Rain Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Did it throw you off balance or just amuse you? It would have amused me, but I have a son that age.
UtahTexan Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 It amused me. Nothing bothers me much, usually. They ask a lot of questions.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) It amused me. Nothing bothers me much, usually. They ask a lot of questions.I am sure they do. It is not every day you run into some one with your back ground. I meant that as a good thing. Edited March 26, 2015 by Mola Ram Suda Ram 1
Wants2know Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I would suggest two books, Leonard Arrington and Davis Bitton's The Mormon Experience for the overall community experience and history and then Richard Bushman's Rough Stone Rolling. Both are worth buying even for nonLDS who are curious about what the worldview of LDS is and how it was shaped. As far as the bad leg, Joseph was in excellent health. He often engaged in wrestling matches, etc. His daily lifestyle was an extremely physical one. His leg had been damaged, but that was many years in the past filled with hard, hard work.Besides, if he had the plates for real from the Lord, then surely if God can make the sea part for the Israelites to pass through unharmed and then have it fall on the Egyptians to drown them all, then the Lord is capable of putting some extra speed and strength into Joseph's limbs and perhaps causing a few stumbles for his enemies.I read Rough Stone Rolling as an investigator and used it to discuss questions and thoughts I had with the missionaries and church members. A very well balanced book by a highly regarded historical writer. Who happens to be LDS.

A very well balanced book by a highly regarded historical writer. Who happens to be LDS. It is a true scholarly work. There is no whitewashing or really any bias for or against Joseph. Just tells history like it happened. While nothing is 100% objective RSR is probably as close as you can get to a no-agenda biography of Joseph. 2

UtahTexan Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I know I am not LDS yet...but I FEEL LDS....... and it feels great 4
UtahTexan Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 lol...there is a Catholic poster here who is former LDS. He is also on the Catholic Board I belong to. He considered me an ally on that board...but since my change, he could not handle me, so I am suspended from that board. If there was anything that proves I did the right changing, it is their fear of allowing me to speak.
Tacenda Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 (edited) How do you know it was he who had something to do with the suspending? Edited March 28, 2015 by Tacenda
UtahTexan Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 How do you know it was he who had something to do with the suspending? He made a post about how the splintering of the LDS Church proved it false. I made the exact same argument about the Catholic Church...using the same arguments. So, he stated he had reported me.....

If there was anything that proves I did the right changing, it is their fear of allowing me to speak.Be careful with that. How others treat you, whether they are Mormon or not, should have nothing to do with your testimony. If it is, you will have a foundation of sand and not one of stone.

Remember, I spent 25 years throwing stuff at Mormons....the antis can't throw anything new at me 1

I was just concerned when you wrote "If there was anything that proves I did the right changing, it is their fear of allowing me to speak."That should not prove anything to you, one way or the other. It was the action of one person. It has nothing to do with what the truth is or is not.
UtahTexan Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Ok. It was the action of one person. It has nothing to do with what the truth is or is not. What I meant was....opposition seems to be a form of evidence. They are afraid of what I might say.....knowing my style and how strong I am able to debate, the preferred me on their side....
Dgal Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 What I meant was....opposition seems to be a form of evidence. They are afraid of what I might say.....knowing my style and how strong I am able to debate, the preferred me on their side....I have to disagree with the idea that opposition is a form of evidence. I oppose radical Islam. That should not be taken as some sort of evidence that it's true. They may be afraid of what you may say or your style. But again, that, in and of itself is not evidence of what is true. Who knows, maybe it's the style you employ, and less of what you have to say, that was the issue. We have to be very careful as to what we use as evidence of what is true and what is not true.
