I Am So Torn

Make sure you tell the missionaries, that their aim is NOT to debate the gospel, but rather enter into dialogue with investigators. Once it' turns into a competition or debating match, arrogance will take over most likely.

We want the Spirit to touch and convert which means we must be humble, but factual

Yes, role playing can be good.   But it is no substitute for seeking the words God wants one to use in specific instances for an individual.  Be sure to remind them that saying what you role play with them to say, is NOT as good as saying what Heavenly Father inspires them to say.

These missionaries are both young.  They have run into some issues they had trouble with.  They just need some help knowing how to respond to some of the questions they have been getting.

I was a missionary.  I know how they feel

Great night with the missionaries.  It went very well.

When it was over, they asked, "can we do this again next week?"

I love the Gospel!!!!!

Hello Mola...

From my experience (2-yr stake mission) of going on splits with the sisters, I'm not sure I agree with your #4...

The sisters that were better able to answer questions were more likely to be successful...

It depends on a certain perspective. I am looking at from the baptist that tells me they are staunch and that they have a problem with my religion. Nothing I say is going to convert that person. The point I was trying to make is it is better to seek out people that are interested instead of trying to win the argument. Of course knowing how to deal with concerns is very important. And it does play a role in conversions. I never once converted some one because I answered all their questions, though. What converted them was keeping the commitments that lead to a testimony.

This is essentially what I am getting at. To learn when it is a debate vs a discussion. The discussion comes when a person is interested. And there are various levels of interest. I can't tell you how much time I spent talking with people that I thought were interested when it turns out all they wanted to do was debate and convert me. Missionaries are there to convert not to be converted.

Anyway I think that the role playing that country boy is doing is quite useful just for the piece of mind it can bring a missionary. I wish I had more opportunities to do what you are doing with the missionaries in your area.

Let me give you an example.  Last night, the missionaries were giving me a lesson on the restoration (as role-play). They had a picture of Jesus laying his hands on someone ordaining them to a calling.  I asked where that occurred in the Bible.  They were stumped.  So, I directed them to Numbers 27:22-23.  Where the Lord commanded Moses to lay his hands on Joshua and ordain him to be Moses' successor.  They ate it up.

This was just one of the ways the role-playing helped them.

Ok, gotcha. Yes, I can see where that is very helpful. That is a wise course of action. :)

Is this more common than I might know?

Not as often as hoped... but it does happen... for instance, I was inactive for 30+ years although the Spirit tugged at me from time to time until I finally heeded the promptings and began my return.  That was about 19 years ago, and when I came back I was stronger than ever... and I've never looked back...

Yes, I read your comments to this effect, part of why I asked.  I've also realized that there seems to be several members here that are my age and my senior (58).  I need to be more mindful.

Oh I see. This is totally different than I thought was going on. Yeah, this is very useful.

I would like to pray for things to go quickly, but know and said we need to trust in the Lord's timing, so I will pray that things will be cleared out of the way that may affect your stake president's inspiration reception and for you and your wife to grow stronger through whatever process you may go through.

This looks like an interesting story.

With some similarities to my own.  I'm intent on moving to Utah this year.

I have visited several times for several years.

I'm somewhat older than you, some similar background and also looking for new work.  Something different.

And converted (baptism) just this Sunday.

David, you should share what your skills are on here.  You never know when one of the members might have a contact that will help in your search for work.  :)

Hello David13...

Congrats on your baptism... if you read some of the earlier pages in this thread, you'll see that Country Boy's story really is more than interesting...
