There is a moderator who is blocking and eliminating spam daily, but without administrative powers, they can’t change the signing up for the board process or how many threads a new poster can make, which is what needs to be done.

I am actually getting a bit worried about Nemesis.  Hope nothing has happened to them.

I am concerned with the conspicuous absence lately of @smac97 who is a MAJOR voice on this board. What do you think happened ? ? ?

Smac told us he was leaving, not interested in posting anymore.  I assume he is doing fine with a lot more free time.

Scott was posting less over time iirc.  Hopefully he’s enjoying retirement.

Added:  Or not….(enjoying retirement, as in not retired, not as in not enjoying).

I assume this is Scott given the number of mutual “friends” we share and the fact he used to work at Deseret News.  He is now a reading clerk for the Utah State Senate.

I remember Scott saying he was leaving. I don’t recall Smac saying as much but maybe over on social hall?

I was trying to find his prediction thread about the numbers of missionaries climbing back to a certain level.  Not that I want to re-open the debate, but since in fact the numbers of missionaries and converts has been increasing since Covid, I wondered how his prediction is doing.  Any idea?

That may be my bad memory.  And if so, I shouldn’t have mentioned it since my knowledge would be solely from a personal message.  It should stand as a warning to others not to share stuff with me if you want it private…not that I think he would be bothered much as I am certain he wouldn’t want people to worry about him.

He mentioned taking a break in a private note to me.  I thought he had also explicitly said something publicly, but maybe he just said he was frustrated or something along those lines and my memory blended the two.  It was a note between friends, just in case anyone gets the wrong idea as we were strongly disagreeing at times.  In fact he wanted to be sure I didn’t get the wrong idea myself.

That's what I was going to point out, I wonder if Scott would like to revisit the posts with his countdown clock on predictions.  And I miss the two of them, although our beliefs didn't always align.

As one likely source of his frustration, I hope he enjoys life board free. The board is certainly quieter and lower drama in his absence as he was very active and voiced strong opinions on controversial topics.

In all seriousness, @Calm, yes, I know my levity is probably misplaced because you're expressing concern for a friend.  I apologize and repent.  And, @Nemesis, thanks for clearing out all of the spam.  (By the way, can anybody tell me what the best way to contact Southwest Airlines is? )

I recall someone saying that @Nemesis had turned off new user registrations in the wake of the recent bot attack, and I wonder if it's still turned off. There's a way to check that, but I'm not going to bother, since I found this at the bottom of the main site:

It appears that 382 bots are currently attempting to storm the ramparts. But the gates are shut!

I don't know if this board software has the functionality to grant limited moderation power/ability, but back in the FAIR days, a few of us that were pretty active were given limited moderator powers under the brand of "Spam Busters."  We had the ability to delete posts and threads as well as ban users.  It requires a level of trust, but I'm sure there's a few people who are currently active that there would be no objections to having that (limited) ability.
