I understand that it does change back and forth depending on where you are in Page though.

I've never noticed that in Page (I don't know if I've looked that carefully, or even had a cell phone, when I spent some time there).

But I did experience that problem one time in Hobbs, New Mexico.  I had to go to Hobbs several times to work on site at the offices for clients that were constructing the National Enrichment Facility that was just east of Eunice, NM, right at the Texas / New Mexico border.  And Hobbs is also less than 3 miles from the Texas border.  But at one of my visits my cell phone alarm clock woke me up in the morning so I could go on site.  I showered, got dressed and ate breakfast before I realized that the sky looked a little darker than it should be at that time of the morning.  I don't know if it was the way the wind was blowing that night, or if a cell phone tower went down somewhere, but at some point during the night before my morning alarm went off, my phone changed to the Texas time zone, and I had gotten up an hour earlier than I needed to.  I was annoyed, and sleepy all day for missing my very much needed extra hour of sleep.  And from that point forward I used the hotel alarm clocks instead of my cell phone when I had to visit Hobbs.  I learned my lesson.

I was more interested in the comparison between the US and the Netherlands (and rest of Europe) and if the time change that we have here starts on the same date as in the US. That's all. 🤷‍♀️ And now, i know the answer, so thank you.

Yes, it gets pretty complicated!

Then there is also with states like Kentucky that have 2 times zones.

And China has one time zone, though the sun rises and sets between 5 geographical time zones (from east to west)!

Now if we just had a flat earth, we wouldn't need to worry about time zones at all, and it would be daylight in China at the same time it is daylight in the United States.  (Sorry flat earth people).

Sundials prove a Flat Earth: the sun obviously moves around a flat surface; where else can it go?

That's crazy. Chine is to big it should have more timzones.

Time is made standard to interact with others, so it makes more sense imo for everyone to have the same time around the earth these days to avoid confusion or the hassle with having to program for the differences.  So much unnecessary effort.  It would be smart to use military time so there is no chance of mixing up am and pm time. (would be smarter to have a 10 hour day, but that’s not going to happen).

Then you could use dawn, morning, midmorn, noon, midafternoon afternoon, dusk, evening, night, midnight, early morn for local time in casual conversation when it’s not about a specific time of day but what is happening that matters (going running at dawn for example, swimming midmornimg, picking kids up midafternoon).

Can you tell I am a staunch proponent of the metric system, it is insane the US has refused to change? It would save so much money and disappointment (when something doesn’t actually fit because it’s metric and the thing it’s supposed to hook into is imperial).

But china is super big. One part of the country will be dark really early. And in the other part it will stay light really long. That's not handy.

Besides...you guys also have differend timzones in the country. And that works perfectly. 🤷‍♀️

So you want that the whole United States have one timezone? I don't believe that's even possible. The country is just way to big for one timezone.

Not really.  It’s a big pain trying to remember what someone’s time is.  I am always messing up calling the east coast too late and the company is shut down for the night already (spend way too much time on the phone with insurance companies plus I buy so much online these days).  If we all had the same time, I would know if they shut down at 2PM/1400, that I need to call them at 1:30 PM/1330 no matter where I was in the US.

My sister is in the same time zone, but she’s far enough away, I always mess up thinking she is one hour ahead.  So I don’t call her thinking it’s too late and then text her too early.

I don’t need to know if it’s before or afternoon for someone, I just need to know if they are available at a certain time and if their time designator was the same time designator for me, how much easier that would be.  Just think you could tell me you can call me between 1300 and 0600 and I wouldn’t have to look up time zones or anything and just remember to call between 1300 and 0600 both your time and mine, because it is the same even if it is my noon and your evening.

It is ridiculous to live by the clock and not by the sun anyway.

But why don't you just stick with companies in local Utah?

Do you think i will make a phone call all the way to the other side of the netherlands to arrange something. Heaven no. I stick to my local place.

But seriously..i believe that the United States is way to big for one timzone. Really.

If she lives in the same timzone one would think you can call here whenever you want.

That is the result of living in a big country. That's just the way it is.

Don’t often have a choice with insurance companies unless you want to pay a lot more.  I also had to take care of my mom’s stuff and at her age and health, changing insurance companies would have been very expensive. The university had very good insurance with my husband’s job, but some of the departments were located back east.

Also the company I trust to give me my favorite bed linens is back east.  Some other stuff over the years is the same.  It is not that big of a deal to give up for the quality or choice I want.

I don’t think you understand my idea of using the same standard of time around the world.  The clock time would be unrelated to where the sun was in the sky in any particular location.  It would be 1200 in London, Washington, San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow, Amsterdam all at the same moment.

It would have course mean you would use two different systems to tell time for each locality, the standard identical everywhere time would be used for connecting with others, when meetings started, etc.  No more having to calculate based on time zones. But as far as when it was dawn, noon, etc, that would not be standard, but would depend on location.  My noon might be at 0800, while your noon might be at 1400.  It would depend on where they chose to start the clock at zero.

That kind of clock will never happen.  Even if they agreed on principle, not sure they would agree what location would have noon at 1200.

And speaking of time, bedtime for me.

It's funny that you talk about all those city's right now. Because .....Right now i'm in Den Haag. The reason why??...because my bf hurted me kinda badly today. So i decided to go out and be gone from home for a while. So forgive me if i can't concentrate on the things you are saying right now. I'm still upset.

Yeah, but you know...then you can make the whole world give the same timzone. So that we're all don't have to worrie wish time it is anywhere on the world. 🤷‍♀️

Like they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall back and spring forward.

I'm sure Elder Uchtdorf will welcome your suggestion. He would also have the least problems adjusting.

Remember when the Mars Climate Orbiter crashed because of confusion between English and metric units? That's a lot of money because of our stubbornness.

That video is obviously not intended for young children :)

Neither is this one, but it fits:

My favorite line:  Man: "Tina, you have to come with me".  Tina:  "Where are we going?"  Man: "We're going to a place where daylight saving doesn't exist... they call it Arizona." Tina responds, "You can't run from this!"
