"I think we're Mormons now"

Recommended Posts

I think it's just a fun, joking moment between the two of them.Ā  He doesn't seem confused like the title and article suggests.Ā  I would totally do something like this with my husband for fun if missionaries came to our door, but I wouldn't come across as cute as he makes it. šŸ˜€

I pretty much assume everything is a set up on social media now. Ā People get too many views (and therefore, too much money) for this kind of stuff for them not to start manufacturing ā€œspontaneousā€ moments. šŸ˜‚

My wife follows me around all the time recording me, just in case something like that happens and we can put it up on Youtube and get a lot of hits (NOT!!).

I was thinking the same thing as you.

My husband actually has a YouTube channel (very part time that he does for fun) connected to off roading and modifying/fixing 4x4s, and I always make fun of him because whatever something interesting happens, thatā€™s usually the time that he decided not to record.

For example, normally he records when he is modifying his off-road vehicle, because it helps people figure out how to modify their own. But the other day he was changing the springs in his car and wasnā€™t recording, and the spring compressor failed. The spring shot out of the machine and almost killed him and broke some of the stuff in our garage as it ricocheted around.

He did a video after the fact, explaining what happened and telling people to stay away from that brand of spring compressor, which has gotten a lot of views, but if he actually had had the failure on video, it wouldā€™ve been amazing!

But thatā€™s the way it goes sometimes when you arenā€™t interested in videoing every moment. šŸ˜‚

At least this was good acting. Young people these days and their social mediaā€¦ the only thing I get really worked up about is when people video themselves crying. You know they had to stop what they were doing. Make the decision Iā€™m going to video myself. Set up the camera and then start crying again. I canā€™t.

It looks pretty legit to me.Ā  I am guessing that she started recording after an initial statement like "I think that I am a Mormon now", at which point she probably said, "hold on, I have to get this on video...tell me what happened".Ā  The thing that makes it look real is at 23 seconds, he sees the missionaries out of the corner of his eye (through his window likely) which clearly interrupts his train of thought as he states "there they are, they are walking", then he continues on with his story.Ā  That didn't look planned, scripted, or like acting.Ā  They must have just left his house.Ā  Ā

Iā€™m annoyed when they act like they are going to make something really cool but by the end all they have is a mess and taken five or more min of my time I can never get back, lol.Ā

Are you talking about the cooking ones? If so, yes!

The purposefully make the video go on and on and on and on, and you know that thereā€™s no way thereā€™s gonna be something edible at the end, but for some reason you just canā€™t look away.Ā

We have missionaries knocking on our door pretty constantly. Usually around 2:45 in the afternoon. I grab my car keys and we happily answer the door. Why do I get my keys? Because that knock means that whoever was supposed to come and give them a ride back to where they live forgot to come get them and it is either raining, cold, blistering hot, or terribly dusty outside. Or in spite of the absence of those things, it is just too far to walk. It is about a twenty minute ride back to their colony. Yes it is a genuine LDS colony complete with sacred sites, apostle's houses, a temple, and I think the only church-owned K-12 school. And yes, Pancho Villa protected the Mormons back in the day!

We chat all the way there about Mennonites, LDS history, historic spots between here and there and why we seem so nice, but don't join the church. Most of the missionaries here are from Mexico City, the state of Mexico, or Hidalgo. Usually one speaks a little English; we always chat in Spanish. They are urban kids who have probably never lived in the country before. They are very grateful and we enjoy giving them rides. It is our secret ministry work that we are still able to do. Lots of time there is no cell service, or their phone is out of power so they are really stuck. They give us big hugs when we arrive at sacrament service. And no, in all the years none of them have ever tried to "teach" us anything, but they sure do enjoy asking questions. Seriously, we enjoy helping them and getting out of the house for forty-five minutes or so.Ā  They only come to our town one or two days a week. As far as I know in our town of around 1,000 there are no faithful or observant members of the LDS church. So, now I think we are Mormons too! Not!
