😆 Dawn Staley, the women who canceled the basketball series against BYU because a Duke volleyball player accused an autistic man of being a racist, actually defended South Carolina fans when they were accused of hurling racial slurs and spitting on the opposing team. She said, " the accusations are serious and false, and they will be handled in the manner reflective of those facts." That's what she said when South Carolina fans were accused of shouting racial slurs at Missouri players.

Honestly, what is happening to this country? It's been investigated and nothing proves what Rachel Richardson is alleging. Why would a university allow this to happen based off ONE allegation?

drama queen much? You must be catatonic when countries boycott the Olympics

I used a Deseret news link just for you. That way you could feel safe and hopefully your filter wouldn't reject it. 😉

These people demand respect. They are never going to get respect until they act respectful. Respect isn't given its earned. This whole thing is just beyond my imagination.

Who are “these people”?

BYU's handling of the alleged use of a racist slur by someone who was in attendance at the women's volleyball game has been nothing but one big, giant fustercluck.  Honestly, I don't think, if I ever got the opportunity to attend any BYU athletic event in person, that I would take it.  I wouldn't want to risk being branded a racist and banned from athletic events on the same basis (sans evidence, not only that the person banned was the one who used the word, but also sans evidence that the word ever was used at all, by anyone) that this gentleman has been.  BYU's treatment of this gentleman has been nothing short of deplorable.  If all they need, regardless of the evidence, is a sacrificial lamb, count me out.

I missed the football game today.  I "missed" it ... but I didn't miss it.  :unknw:  ("BYU's racist!!!!" people scream.  And what does BYU do?   "Why, whatever can we do?  We must all fall on our swords, repeatedly, until we are well and perfectly perforated! " )  Uhhhh ... they have a Black quarterback, and a bunch of other Black players, but, whatever.

Already, I have reoriented my priorities because one Utah team doesn't want me as a fan because of what several of my family members do for a living (albeit decades too late, in that case: Oh, well. :unknw:  Better late than never).  I have no problem doing that again because of BYU's frankly deplorable treatment of this young man (and because I would never want to run the risk, however slight, of being subject to similar treatment.

Buh-bye, BYU.  And no, I won't let the door hit me in the you-know-what on the way out.

While I can see your point , Kenngo, had BYU not acted as it did it would swiftly been dogpiled on by all and sundry way worse that it was. The man in question was banned for approaching the other team and not for racist remarks despite what most reports say. The knee-jerk punishment was way overboard IMO . Perhaps , when the dust settles , the fellow's position will be reviewed by cooler heads. Got  to love that " golden rule " !🤐

The volleyball player and her Dad? I'd have to go find the conversation for a direct quote.

“These people”

You realize that making this accusation isn’t a road to a happy life. The death threats against the player are already in full swing as expected. Hopefully they haven’t found a target address for her family yet.

I can't find anything online about the Duke player receiving death threats.  Are you sure you aren't confusing her with the BYU coach who did receive death threats after the story broke?

Rod also explained he used "these people" for the player and her dad and not as a microaggression towards all black people.  But he can chime in to defend himself.

Those death threats run both directions. The only reason I said these people is I couldn't remember their names. Recently I can't remember my PIN number.

The good part is I can read the same novel over and over and over and I don't remember the plot. Saves money on books.

My Dad used to say that because of his memory loss, he meets new people every day. 😄

Looks like Dawn Staley isn't going to share the personal research she used to justify canceling the games with BYU.

Staley’s sticking to her guns, saying she's talked to people involved.

“It wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction,” she said. “I don’t knee-jerk anything.”

Fine, but can’t she at least clarify her decision?

Richardson is being labeled a liar. Jussie Smollett 2.0. If Staley can back up her story, I’m sure Richardson would very much appreciate it.

If she can’t, Staley owes BYU an apology, if not a couple of basketball games. The Cougars hopefully aren’t holding their breath.

A South Carolina spokesman told me Monday that Staley has no plans to further address the issue. Whatever evidence her investigation turned up shall remain sealed.

Given what we do know, I believe Staley found that a lot of knees jerk when it comes to race. And people care more about promoting their agendas than seeking the truth.

No wonder she wants to keep things secret.
