Nonsense. Joseph would not care a fig for the money. He would be smiling broadly to see how the Church of Christ has developed so well over the years, and how faithful his successors have been in preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Anyhow, he knows exactly what is going on, and sits regularly in the Council in Heaven dealing directly with earthly affairs. 5

During that experience in a way that I cannot articulate what power entered my heart about him being a prophet. I served in a senior leadership role in the church and a thought that constantly entertained my mind was I wonder what Joseph would say if he was here now, I wonder how he would fell about all the temples dedicated and be built. I wonder how he would feel about his prophecies coming to pass about temples covering the earth. He (Joseph) never built a chapel only temples. What do you think he might say if he had 15 mins at the next general conference. I think he would weep, glory God and the son then tell us how much he loved us and to keep pressing forward. I think he would as President Nelson would and leave a with his promised blessings. He would not recognize the church he started.

Frankly, given the number of times Smith got burned by speculators, I think he’d be concerned about the fact that so much of the Church’s wealth is held in the stock market. It takes a certain amount of social grooming for a person to view the modern financial world as something other than sheer madness. But I think he’d appreciate that the Church doesn’t need to go begging for loans to move its work forward; and I think in institutional and economic terms he’d be very satisfied (and maybe a little smug) to see all that his people could accomplish once they were allowed to live in peace. I think he’d marvel at the technical, engineering, medical, and general scientific advances of the day. Spiritually . . . I think he’d probably conclude that a significant portion of the Saints have gotten a bit too comfortable and are living below their spiritual privileges; and I think he’d be frustrated at the way our broader segmented, specialized society makes it more difficult for people of varying backgrounds and professional skills to unite and achieve a common goal. If these are not the Latter-days and Christ is not actually returning for the final time, then of course it would be a washout, and all the money in the world would not matter one whit. If there are no real prophets of God, and God is merely a rumor without foundation, then of course the LDS Church has no real purpose, but is merely one in an expanding list of Christian denominations accidentally established by a Jewish rabbis two millennia ago. Dying and rising god myths and all that . . . If the Holy Spirit does not actually bear witness, then of course, break out the booze and forget about it . . . 2

What if he appeared today and stood in the same spot where he said "This is the right place"? I think he would marvel and be pleased at how it has grown from what he started. 1

Read his discourses. He would hate how much the world has encroached on the society and Church membership he established in Utah. And he constantly feared the end of persecution, and the acceptance of us as a Church.

I tend to agree; I was just referring to the visual aspect of seeing how much it has grown. 1

I loved the tour that the senior missionary gave me of his wonderful winter home in St George.
