No girls camp

The church is not opening any of their camps this summer. My Stake had planned on overnight girls camp this July and just cancelled because all church run camps will be closed this summer.

Sad.

If it's just an overnighter can't the stake just hold it somewhere else? Surely all you need is tents and a field.

My thoughts exactly but my Stake cancelled.

Just as well my granddaughter is heading to Alaska then. Feeling just a bit conflicted.

I think it is kind not to pressure leaders who prefer not to spend extensive time in close quarters with non family members.

I can see that. It’s sad for these kids. My Stake was excited to have an overnight camp.

That's awesome. Go her. (no risks, no memories)

Our stake cancelled some things after the church put out the "requirements for overnight activities during COVID" email, which made having an overnighter practically impossible and not really worth the effort.

And I agree, it's really sad.  It also means that for some girls, they will age out of YW's and miss the last two summers of YW activities, which are usually some of the funnest years.  The stakes and wards really need to put some effort into finding some activities to do that don't require overnight stays this summer.  In places where the risks are low and the numbers are falling, it's a little ridiculous to continue to put everything on hold while these youth age out of these programs and lose these chances forever.

I would have volunteered to go. I’ve been a ward camp director many times in the past. I’m vaccinated, I’ve got a Junior who could have used the camp experience. She will never be a YCL or have those memories. I’m happy I sent her to EFY when she was younger. Our cases are super low here.

Our stake is still full-speed ahead for camp, at a Church-owned camp (Camp LoMIA). Is this just a Utah thing?

We're also going to be mask-optional at girls camp.

We're having a stake young men's camp the week after my son gets home from his mission, and they've asked him to go (he's excited --- it will be with his two younger brothers).

We just did Youth Conference though we cut the overnight bit. The Young Women have a stake camp next month. I expect attendance to be lower (and I think it is unwise to hold it right now) but it is going forward.

We just got specific metrics from the Area Presidency on when we can go back to the two hour block. I am guessing it is at least three months out to meet it.

The big confusion we have is Primary and the worry about if some families are going to come back at all. :(

bsj doesn't live in Utah.

My ward just started doing primary singing time at Wednesday nights in the chapel from 6-6:40.  I think we are still a few weeks out from getting back to two hour church too.

Oh, yeah, isn't she in Arizona, too? I forgot that.

If so, they were probably LoMIA bound. We just had out camp kickoff last week. This might be Area Seventy or stake president roulette.

I let her answer that as I'm not sure she wants to put her state out there.  But it's not Arizona.

Sorry to hear it. Our stake is moving ahead with girls camp, but it's going to be a lot more segmented than usual. It will be broken up into two or three groups over different days, and the girls will largely be staying with their own units. I'm hopeful that it will turn out well and that the girls will enjoy it.

Our stake announced the fireside for trek today so I know we are still having that.

Our stake cancelled Trek a few weeks ago.  It was also canceled last year so I'm not sure if we'll get to have next year or they'll finally give up and move on.

I was just talking to the bishop and our ward is still going overnight girls camp in August.

I would be shocked if our stake canceled it.  It is huge in our stake.

Is there an official announcement yet? I’m looking but can’t find anything....just that some camps have restrictions.

for the record: our stake is having ward camps overnight as far as I know

It is what I heard from my Stake in an email.
