No girls camp

When people complain, express frustration, etc. about the ongoing (and no end in sight) loss of experiences and opportunities (especially for children and youth), it's usually attacked as elitism, or a sense of entitlement. The problem for a growing groundswell of people is that the ongoing and never-ending measures increasingly don't mesh with the threat and the state of things. "Flattening the curve" ---- the curve has been very flat for a long time now in all areas (new cases, hospitalizations, deaths, etc.), and anyone who wants a vaccine has been able to get one (starting with the "most vulnerable" populations, who were at the very beginning), so the rationale of indefinite restrictions to protect people is losing its appeal. 

Already, the drums are beating for continuing this stuff into the next school year (it's a really hot topic in Arizona, where a small number of districts have abandoned restrictions, while most are continuing them and talking of continuing them into the next year), which will make three straight school years with these restrictions. The Church will be the very last entity to lift restrictions (officially), because it doesn't want criticism or press about not being good citizens. 

When @bsjkki laments that her daughter will never get to be a YCL, or when parents and missionaries are sorely disappointed in what missions have become, a common response is to wave Elder Bednar in their faces (abandon any expectations and hopes for what your service will be, and stop being entitled). This isn't helpful as people increasingly get a feeling of loss, and with the opportunity cost all out of whack. 

I think when the total cost on children and youth in the Church of all of this fully dawns on us, we will be horrified.

This is what my email said. 
 

“The stake will be moving to Plan B for YW Camp as they have been told that the Church will not be opening any camps for overnight camping this summer.”

We are already having the two hour block, primary included. For primary they have split junior and senior primary. One group goes to class each weak while the other has singing time and a lesson in the primary room. They wanted less congestion in hallways and did not want the kids changing rooms. This has been working really well and personally, I think it is a better use of time. Switching the kids around each week with the two hour block was a pain and wasted so many precious minutes. I had a lot of teachers complain class time was too short.

We started the two hour block March 28th.

So weird that your area has had a two hour block for a month, but is skittish about camp. In my area, we are nowhere near a two-hour block (despite low cases, deaths, and hospitalizations), but activities are "full speed ahead," including camps. There are so many permutations with the local roulette. 

It's definitely not a Churchwide "won't be opening any camps this summer"  --- it appears to be a local thing.

[Ginger Snaps]

Huh. I’m in CA, but we go to Oregon for YW camp at a church-owned camp. My daughter attended a YCL event yesterday. It appears it’s still a go here.
