Are men staying single more nowadays?

It’s so simple. They need to focus on making a lot of money. Many beautiful women marry ugly man if they are successful and wealthy enough. At the 10 million mark, looks don’t matter.

TV has ruined them.  They watch shows and movies where extremely attractive and intelligent women are married or dating overweight, dumb, and immature men and they think that's how real life is supposed to be.

Of those, I’ve only watched Modern Family. Jay seems somewhat wealthy so Gloria makes sense. (unless you’re thinking of Mitchell and Cameron- or Claire and Phil? Or Haley and Dylan? Lol!)

Hi poptart. Being the new guy I'm not actually sure if I should bring this up or not and I hope I dont make anyone uncomfortable,  but I'm going to try it to see what happens. I to hang with a different crowd most of the working day (all men) and from what I hear alot of men dont need female companionship like they use to. Technology is solving that for men. There's all kinds of, let's say, "technologies" men can rely on without any commitment.  I'll leave that up to your imagination, and it's just beginning, wait till virtual reality gets even more main stream and men can go on "dates" by putting on a pair of goggles. Spotting a male human outside the house will be like discovering a dodo bird. This "technology" I'm talking about is huge in Asian countries and relationships over there are becoming far and few between. Virtual wives are the new thing.  Anyways, I tried my best not to make this weird, but this is a big part of why men seem to not need relationships anymore.

Lol I'm part Asian and it was that side which pretty much raised me, the caucasian side here was pretty awful and I really have nothing to do with them.  Like a lot of their ilk they're well on their way to transitioning from upper middle class to lower middle class. 

Here's the thing that i've noticed here, in some places it still pays to be married, there is some discrimination.  I've played the LGBT card a few times at work when someone tried something, anymore you have to be a little shifty with people, there's always someone waiting to shank you in the back.  We'll see how much longer that bit of privilege lasts here with more men marrying non caucasian partners and WASP families going down the drain.

I am also not convinced that there is a huge interest in protecting children in general. You would think foster care and CPS (and equivalents) would be well funded if that were the case but they are not.

Add to that that although the best interests of the child is supposed to be the very raison d'etre of family law, that is only so if the child's interests do not conflict with the supposed "right" of an adult, such as, e.g., the supposed right of a one-night-stand sperm donor to be, putatively, a father to his child, even though the sperm donor didn't care enough in the beginning to stick around long enough to find out that his partner had become pregnant by him and to help her deal with the ensuing consequences.  Hence, often, courts will consider seriously turning a child's life upside down to vindicate the supposed "father's" rights, even when the child is in a stable, two-parent relationship already, has all of his or her needs more than adequately seen to, and is wanting in no other way: "Hi, Billy.  I know you don't know me from a stranger off the street, but I'm the guy who got your mom pregnant and didn't care enough about either one of you to stick around long enough to deal with the consequences, but, I've got rights, and I want to be your father now.  We'll have a great time together!  C'mon!  Whaddaya say?!"

I don't know what Billy would say, assuming he's not confused enough already by the whole mess to not say anything, but here's what I say: "Your being here only confuses the kid and messes up his life, no matter what you think your 'rights' are and no matter how well-intentioned you are ... so take a hike!"

I've been considering this observation. It's so true even the contrarian in me can't find anything to debate in it.

Now maybe this supposed to be some kind of balance but it seems that every male, US actor now is steroid-level, super buff. I mean the first time Chidi Anagonye took off his shirt I was like "Wholly crap" and wounding if that physique was some perk he got from being in The Good Place. Like I said, maybe it's balance but it reinforces my assumption that talent is limited to what's in the pool of tens and elevens.

Personally, I find the hyper-attractiveness of US actors to be a strong and annoying distraction. I'll use Anya Taylor-Joy, from The Queen's Gambit, as an example. She might be a brilliant actor. Frankly I don't know because every time the shot panned to her face I was struck for the bazillionth time how striking she was - which snaps my attention away from the plot and production and everything else. Watching European dramas (not packed with over-amp'd beauty) feels like a relief.

I don't disagree with that. It's the 'Doll' styling that's striking. My most natural reaction might be objectification. I'm kind of unhappy about it.
