About the New Board 'Upgrade.

Recommended Posts

Some likes and dislikes:

I like that it is crisper and cleaner in overall appearance and that the colors seem more vivid.

I like that we can now collapse or expand quoted posts at will.

I fervently dislike losing the edit function. Please, please bring it back, the sooner, the better.

And apparently, we are no longer notified about responses to or rep points to our posts with the ability to quickly link to said responses and rep points. I don’t like that at all.

All things weighed in the balance, I would prefer going back to how it was before. In other words, this amounts to needless tinkering with what wasn’t broke.

OK, I poked around a bit and found I can still quickly go to responses and rep points. I have to do one or two more taps than before to get there, but I can live with that.

Any word on whether the edit function will be restored?

Look to the right of your moniker/name there are 3 dots.  Click it and a drop down menu should show edit.  If it doesn’t then I need to go check a setting.

Still getting used to this thing, but I’ve discovered how to edit. You simply tap on the three dots to the right of the name line on the post. That brings up a menu of functions, one of which is editing.

If you’ve learned anything with the new board upgrade, feel free to share it here. Could save some of us some time.

DITTO, not liking the update on FB, seem to be the same look as well. Miss the old on here and there. But maybe I just don't like change. I'm just glad this board is still large print, thanks MODS you do all you can and I appreciate it!

Thanks for all you do, Nemesis.

I like it. I grew up in a house where Mom creatively rearranged the furniture several times a year. It always felt like a new house and I liked it. But I came to realize when still quite young, that all houses were not like my own. Do they never rearrange the furniture, I can remember wondering, when the homes of my teenage buddies always looked exactly the same.

It feels like Mom has rearranged the furniture.

I used to do this. Not just furniture, but rooms. Not so easy anymore so instead of a couple a times a year it is more like every couple of years...except for my bedroom. Just can’t find a configuration I like.

3DOP... I like what your mother did...  and how it made you feel... For me, I like to think I got it right the first time for the most comfort, pleasing look and feel... for instance... My dining room table and Hutch are 54 years old and have held their place in the several homes I've had through the years.  The same for a rocking chair... My big wingback chair is 35 years old but still as comfortable as ever in spite of several reappolsterings...   the coffee table here in the den is also 54 yrs old... purchased at the same time as table/hutch...  the basic arrangement has been the same if room size/shape permitted.  The same is true for other rooms, like bdrms (one chest of drawers is at least 40 yrs; others are 20+ etc).  While all this would drive many people nuts, the result is I love my home and feel so very comfortable in it... I always bought really good furniture like Ethan Allen... Drexol... etc.  so everything has held up well and belies age.

I like the new divider line between read and unread replies, just in case I don’t tap on the unread option the right way.

My MIL, who is now passing in this house, down the hall loved to "decorate."  We would get up in the morning wondering what would be where and that included the kitchen cabinets and drawers as well as the big furniture.  I never thought I would miss that part of her character, but oh my lordy do I.

Some rooms and some furniture are much easier to move around than others.  Our living room changes.  Our family room has never set right for.  It is rectangle with doorways in 3 of the corners and a fireplace in the 4th corner.  There is a window to the backyard between the fireplace and one door.  I would've loved to have your mom come give me ideas.

I've checked my other posts to see the Edit ability but all it shows is Report and Share. Does this only apply to new posts? I guess we'll see.

ETA: The Edit ability is there with this post.

I am finding using the ‘go to the next unread topic’ at the bottom of a thread doesn’t always take me to the first unread post in that thread. And sometimes it lands me in the middle of a post rather than the beginning. With the new “unread posts” divider, this is no big deal though. I am just mentioning it in case others are experiencing the same and wondering if something is wrong at their end rather than an odd glitch with the new update.

I really like having more options than the “heart” for rep points. That conveys to me “I ❤️ this post” and that isn’t usually what I am feeling even if enthusiastic about it.

Lol Shows how observant I am.  Did not even notice. Thanks!

The rep point options just showed up today. I am guessing Nemesis is fine tuning the upgrade. I just noticed the unread glitch so that might be new to today as well.

I just saw in a resurrected thread a “four weeks later...” insert above the unread replies divider.

I love it. I get a sense I am watching a drama and it has a time jump conveyed by a banner or whatever it might be called “3 years later...”

That works better for me than guys suddenly wearing glasses and women suddenly having four more inches of hair or a more ‘mature’ style.  I prefer precision.

Besides the edit option moving and requiring scrolling and clicking twice, I am really liking this upgrade.

My mom did that too. Must be a common practice from yesteryear.

This is a welcome change. It will eliminate the initial confusion that often comes with a zombified thread.

Looks like there will be no further need for your zombie emoticon.

Since the upgrade, I’m now getting nagged to update my email address. I hesitate to do that because it says I will have to re-establish my account. Does that mean I will lose the record of my total number of posts and rep points?

I love it, it is my favorite emoticon by far, so don’t count on it disappearing just because it should. Zombies always come back, you know.
