Covid II: Medical Info and Implications

Recommended Posts

The data I last read said that the most dangerous side effect in children is that about 1 in 25 of those that are hospitalized have ongoing neurological problems. That is obviously a small number as a very small amount of children have Covid symptoms bad enough to be hospitalized. My gut feeling is that we will eventually give a green light generally on vaccinating children but it does make sense to vaccinate adults first.

My daughter’s neighbor in California just died of covid in California. In his 40’s, lots of young kids. He was taken by ambulance last evening and is gone today.

That is so terribly sad.

Was he vaccinated with the Jansen vaccine then, or is that article unrelated?

We know that the Jansen vaccine is less effective against Covid in general, so the article is not surprising at all that it is less effective against the Delta variant.

Unrelated. They are in Sacramento so odds are it was the Delta variant.

So, most likely he wasn't vaccinated.  What a sad, sad and completely avoidable thing.

You're once again far more magnanimous than I. I'm part of a small minority here who has been blessed to receive the first jab. To me, what's happening in America just feels immoral.

And it the vaccine resistance is in part being fueled by conservative religious people including Latter-day Saint. That in spite of the encouragement from LDS leadership.

Yep. I spoke with an American friend from the Church yesterday and encouraged her to listen to the prophets. It's good advice.

Here where I live, vaccine hesitancy seems to fall into four main camps. The largest of these includes those sincerely worried about medical harm. We have had a number of people die from the Astra Zeneca jab.

I can't gauge the sizes of the other three groups, but one includes 'eco-progressives' who have been anti-vaccine for a long time because they're opposed to anything unnatural (unlike death, apparently). We have whole communities of them in some locations, where diseases like whooping cough and measles keep breaking out. Then we would have a small 'don't tread on me' movement that appears to be directly linked to some of the stuff happening in America. Last, we have devout Catholics and Evangelicals who refuse to receive a vaccine the development of which involved fetal cells in any way.

Friend’s dad is in the hospital. He was born in Germany and his dad still lives there. He got his vaccination shot on a Friday and on Saturday went to a big spectator event that he said ended up being a superspreader situation. He is not on a ventilator yet but he is not showing any signs of improvement either.

My friend is annoyed as he knows his dad knew that it takes weeks to develop resistance and is stuck with the reality of justifiably being angry at the person who put his father’s life at risk out of carelessness while being worried about this dad and the fun of both those individuals being the same person.

I absolutely agree! My daughter held a crying widow with 6 year old twins in her arms today. (I hope my daughters  vaccine works!) The spouse said her husband refused to get vaccinated. He got sick and refused to go to the doctor.

They were finally walking to the car when he collapsed. The wife gave CPR until the ambulance arrived. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
They were Hispanic first generation immigrants.

It's probably in front of my nose on this thread but lazy me would love a quick answer. My son just visited my home and is against the vaccine thinking he needs evidence of it working against the Delta variant. Would love some help if you have the time. A link or something.

Does he want technical studies or what?  All he has to do is look at the percentage of the hospitalizations and deaths occurring now…the vast majority are unvaccinated, but also who is getting infected.

Those safeguards are highlighted by the percentage of people who are now testing positive for the coronavirus in Los Angeles County, for example, where more than 10,000 new cases have been reported in the last week. In an alarming spike in cases, 99% of new infections involve people who have not been vaccinated.

Thanks Calm, my sister just posted on my nephew's FB about the vaccine, he's an anti-vaxxer Fauci hater and she is probably on the fence but lives in California so I'll not only give my son the link but post it on the FB thread my sister is on, whether or not she or my nephew will believe it, I will do it just for the sake of it maybe getting through some thick skulls!

This is a good article on this topic.

Added to my list! Thanks!

The one I posted was just grabbed as an example and I didn’t read the whole thing. Think about their personalities and read any article to see if it has comments that they would dislike…like avoid anything with Fauci if they don’t like him.

It may be the more casual stuff works better, may be more stats heavy does. Look at the kind of articles they post and try to find the same style, but from the viewpoint vaccines are good. If you need help, post some of the articles they are using here and I and maybe others can help you find something that might work for them.

If they are really anti mask, it might be better to avoid articles that discuss that as well and instead choose ones that focus on vaccines.

Since you are not trying to win an argument but rather persuade people you care about to do something that may save their lives or at least prevent them from suffering unnecessarily, you need to be much more careful in choosing your evidence.  And remember they may feel the same way (if it is not so much a political issue for them).

I did take that in to account. I read both articles by you and bsjkki and I like yours because it mentions LA California and not from MSN. But also liked bsjkki's because it shows it's not only in California. And hopefully the MSN article won't ruffles their feathers.

Thanks, I read the rest of what you had to say here. My sister isn't anti mask that I know of but don't know about my nephew, guessing he's anti mask along with my son. But it's done now, I posted both articles on the FB thread and if they say anything I will take it like a woman! ;)

ETA: I also mentioned that I use to be anti flu shot until some friends that work in the medical field convinced me otherwise. Hopefully that will soften my message.
