I live near Lagoon, and for years most everyone I knew even living 30 minutes away, would get excited to go to "Stake Lagoon Day", I remember my MIL would love to ride every ride, even in her later years! While a former resident of Farmington, we didn't have to pay for parking back in the late 90's and would have a special permit since Lagoon is in Farmington. Four of my children worked for Lagoon in their teenage years, and then their families would get to go one day a year free, haha. And growing up semi near there I would go often, so it's a staple around here. There is a walking path surrounding Lagoon that I recently went on a walk around, I saw they have begun a huge roller coaster ride. One thing I hate about Lagoon is their animal park though it's not the best, poor animals and their sacrifice for us to ride on a choo-choo train to see them.

Oh come on.   West Hollywood is a long ways away.  In between the Temple and West Hollywood are Century City, golf courses, and Beverly Hills.  The LA Temple is in one of the most prestigious and beautiful areas of LA.  Of course, it wasn' t that way in 1954.

Well, I suppose this is proof positive that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can't win: Half of its detractors (and a good number of its purportedly-faithful members, it would seem) are scandalized by whatever else already exists in the neighborhood that might not be conducive to having a temple there, while the other half of its detractors (and a good number of its purportedly-faithful members, it would seem) think that having a temple in a certain neighborhood is all about driving out people of a certain socioeconomic status.

A dress?!? Isn't that a little risque? Those rides and going upside down?  Jeanne, in my quote I said people traveled even 30 minutes away, haha. They travel a lot further than that to go to Lagoon, I said it because we lived in Riverton for a time. This made me think of a debate I had with my teenage daughter once. She thought people would travel from all over the world to see Lagoon, and I kept saying that I didn't think so, not like Disneyland etc. Well, she is right, I saw license plates or tour busses from all over. I feel terrible that we wasted time even having that argument, this was a long time ago. I was too stinking uptight.

I’m a Freddy “Boom-Boom” Cannon fan from way back. And I’ve always liked that song. 
 

So much so that a while back, I Googled the real Palisades Park to find out what I could about it. I learned that it has long since been sold off and turned into a real estate development. Lagoon, by contrast, is still going strong after nigh on a century with more and better rides and attractions than ever before. 
 

Incidentally, do you know the Cowsills’ song “Indian Lake” from the late sixties?  It’s a real place too. In upstate New York.

In your defense likely most didn't come for Lagoon, but went because they were here for something else.

When we went to Spain we went to an amusement similar to Lagoon.  I would have much rather spent time looking at architecture, art, sampling food etc.  We went because I had a teenage boy with me and I wanted him to have some "fun" things that he would enjoy too.

I’ve always detested snooty critics.
 

But the above is old news to me. I was 11 when the song came out, and I remember it very clearly. As you can imagine, it was quite the sensation in these parts. The Beach Boys were in their heyday then, rivaling the Beatles in popularity. For years afterward, Lagoon used the song in its advertising. 
 

Incidentally, the story goes that Brian Wilson and Mike Love wrote “Fun, Fun, Fun” in the back seat of a car while the local radio station program director was driving them to the airport in Salt Lake City. They had been flirting with his daughter, a receptionist at the station, who drove a T-Bird and told them she got out of the house by lying to her parents and telling them she was going to the library to study.

Sadly, Palisades closed by the time I was a mid-teenager. Eve though it was solidly endorsed!

Yes I recall the song, but not the album cover (which after I looked it up, The Cowsills were way edgier than I ever knew!). Indian Lake, wow that's way, way out in the country!

The Cowsills did have largely a wholesome, “family band” image (they included their mom and little sister in the group, for crying out loud!). 
 

But they were, in some respects, a product of their time, the late sixties. And it was, you may recall, a time of psychedelia, avant- garde art and “concept albums” (think the Beatles’ “Sergeant Pepper” and the Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds”).

I grew up in So Cal and went to the temple several times. The front lawn of the temple was so big that it acted as a buffer between the temple and Santa Monica Blvd. It was easy to forget what was around the temple when walking in the front entrance. It's a little different than when I was there, but still a good buffer.

I lived in Tooele County and it was so worth the trip.....you do NOT want to go to a fun house in a dress.....the rest was trial and error.  My Dad that we should be in dresses because we would also school shop and because everyone should look nice  for anything having to do with the Stake/Church.  He never went grocery shopping without a tie...ugh..I loved him but what a pain!
