There's the answer. And if we look at life on earth, it is clear that variety helps to create an environment that is better and more joyful. So eternal beings who engage in eternal creations in different ways might make the eternities better and more whole and joyful.

2 Ne 2:25 "men are that they might have joy."

Moses 1:39 "this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."

So, God's selfless raison d'etre is to create eternal beings like himself -- who have joy as their prime directive -- who in turn find their glory in producing more such offspring.  Is that eternal progression?

I have been around quite a few rich people and a fair number of trust fund offspring of them. Many of them are not happy. The baseline economic security underlying it is generally healthy and conducive to happiness. Then again a lot of the rich are not that secure financially if you dig down a little. Some are, some aren’t.

Even in this fallen state, healthy men release anywhere from 40 million to over 1.2 billion sperm at once. For this reason, spirit matter might very well be so highly compressible that literally millions of spirit offspring could occupy the limited space of her uterus at the same time. In fact, even though I don’t have a clear recollection reading something in the same vein of before, I wouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised if someone like Parley Pratt already made the very same case nearly two centuries ago..

We just don't know how spirit children are produced, and how they encase an eternal intelligence.  We also don't know how many wives are involved over how long a period of time in the production of the billions of spirit children.  The Earth itself (and our Solar system), for example, has been in existence for around 5 billion years, and the Milky Way Galaxy much longer than that.  It may be fun to play guessing games, and we love to suppose . . .

But supposition is not the same as fact.
