MustardSeed Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Well I would believe before I didn’t believe people’s accounts of inappropriate questioning by a priesthood leader because as I previously mentioned , women have told ME their stories. So I know it does happen. But I’m not going to write a book about it. I’m just gonna let someone else look hysterical.

I've shared a story on here it times past about a situation involving a Priesthood leader. He's now dead. Until all involved parties stand before God someday, there isn't much anybody can really do about it, I think this is where faith comes in that God will handle it and you can lie to everybody here but you can't lie to God

And as we know from all the literature on preventing child abuse, the best way to do that is to teach potential victims to recognise and report. Attempting to scare people into thinking that everyone around them ('stranger danger!) is a potential abuser has been an abject failure and in many cases has created serious harm. 2BizE Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 I don't understand the negativity on this forum for these stories. These are our fellow brothers and sisters, children and friends who have been raped, sexually assaulted, and abused by members of the church. In most cases, a church leader played a role in committing, covering up, or silencing the crime. These are their stories, not Sam Young's stories. This abuse is something that has to stop, and little is being done by the church to help. Please show some respect and comfort those who stand in need of comfort.

I hope to some recovery centre or something like that

When someone approaches me with an incredible story, whether it's about ancient books on golden plates or about clandestine sex rings in the Church that involve ritual murder and cannibalism, I'm going to ask questions. I'm sorry if you find an inquiring mind disrespectful. 3

However, there are those who have posted elsewhere they have submitted false stories, so those particular 'victims' are not actually our "fellow brothers and sisters" (in the sense the victim doesn't actually exist, not referring to the author of the fictions). If I knew what stories to trust as at least semiaccurate (I don't believe most such stories are fully accurate no matter what side they are told from as the more emotion is involved, the more difficult it can be to see how others see our situations), I would be more positive about the book. Instead I think Young devalues the lives of real victims by not caring enough to at least find out if the story is even believed by the person submitting. And I have seen the damage in the lives of those living the Satanic Panic experience, both as victim and accused. They are our brothers and sisters as well and mistaken, even if well meaning, therapies are not helping them nor would accepting the twisted views of such things as reality be healing for them, imo. Judd Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Is it possible for one to doubt the historicity of this book but perhaps see some meaning in it as allegorical, or is that not a thing?
rpn Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 18 hours ago, The Nehor said: Probably not. That would require proving the story false. Since these all happened at interviews and the content is confidential it would be difficult to prove the story false. It might work if they can show that the interview never happened which might be possible if the stories are dated but I doubt this book will bother with real specifics. The person who was accused of doing criminal things claims defamation. The person who said it/published it raises the affirmative defense of it being the truth (could also be other defenses). His defense fails unless he can prove it to be the truth by preponderance of the evidence (which makes he said she said potentially not enough.) The person defamed only needs to prove that he was defamed. And any publisher is irresponsible if they don't do the due diligence to fact check the stories.
Avatar4321 Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 So he thinks the Church excommunicated him to silence him? Why on earth would we think he would be silent once he is out of the Church? 1

Why on earth would we think he would be silent once he is out of the Church? It's another apostate meme. 'You can't silence me! as they shake their angry fists in the direction of SLC. It plays right into a number of popular stereotypes that people uncritically accept. If it were based even remotely on truth, Church leaders would be even more stupid than your average Scooby Doo villain. I mean, they've been excommunicating people since the 1830s, and not once has it resulted in silence. Fools! Edited November 28, 2018 by Hamba Tuhan 3
