I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Now that felt good. I am not a Mormon but a follower of Jesus Christ. That felt good too.

It’s great that although you’re not active, you are still proud of this!

I will make every effort to use the proper name too :)

And I’m an ex-notamormon?

Nope, ex-member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint.  Maybe ex-Latter-day Saint for short.  :D

This is sort of bringing bad memories when I used Paltalk years ago. We had one guy who always constantly argued with people who were not LDS to not call him a Mormon but call him part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  One could argue he was forward thinking but what I would argue is that his constant protesting led to constant mocking and fights with those who are not LDS.  His firm position really accomplished nothing and he spent most of his time fighting over the issue than talking about anything else.  If we become so dogmatic about not using the name "Mormon" it might become counterproductive.   We should be more focused on sharing the gospel and not get into a big debate on the issue of the usage of the word "Mormon".

That's true. My inactivity has nothing to do with the church. It has to do with myself. So, I can still be proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Perhaps and perhaps not. There's a difference between Latter-day Saints and "Mormons." The latter are primarily cultural phenomenons and "Utah Products."

Can we not use the term Latter-day Saints to refer to members of the church?  President Nelson wants us to use the name of the Church as revealed in the Doctrine and Covenants.  Is Latter-day Saints not then the revealed title for its members?  We can drop the term Mormon and the acronym LDS.  But I don’t see a problem with using Latter-day Saint once in a while as a shorter way of saying member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Am I right?

Edit: I found the answer to my question in the church’s official statement. I’m right.

This was probably during one of the previous 3 failed attempts to drop use of the name "Mormon".

I agree.  The last thing we want is for there to be a wedge where there wasn't one before.  There should be no judgment of others.  No demands.  No offense.  We should be gracious when people use the full name and understanding/patient when they don't.  The point is that WE should make the change and not criticize or judge others who are accustomed to using "Mormon" (we can't really blame them for that).   If we become unreasonable about this, the term "Mormon" will undoubtedly be increasingly used as an epithet once again.  Let's not let it get to that point.  It is not an epithet, so let's not turn it into one by how we respond to its use by others.

So I can go ahead then and state that I am an ex Latter-Day-Saint?  I am having a heck of a time finding out who I am...perhaps this might have beem Pres. Nelson's intention...😋
