Yet, your bible does not have as many books found in the original bible of the Catholics. Which God took the books out and when?  By what authority were they taken out?  You really are on a slippery slope.

Yes of course.

you seem to really know nothing about Mormonism. Except perhaps what you read on some crazy sites.

So, if Mormonism is just like the old-time religion practiced in the John the Baptist Churches, why don't you simply attend one of them? Why get married and SEALED in the temple when in FACT one is only married until death do they part? Why do Mormons what to be married in the afterlife? Why do Mormons need the Book of Mormon when they have Genesis and can read the story of Babel. If one isn't going to believe the Bible, why on earth does anyone imagine that the Mormon version is superior?  Why did Joseph Smith need multiple wives and why did Brigham Young need more than one wife? Women could have lived communally. They didn't have to marry. Husbands didn't get healthcare from their employers back then.  I think the crazy sites are not too far off the beam. Perhaps Mormons simply don't like ridicule.

The Apocrypha  was not added to the Catholic Cannon until Jerome translated the Vulgate in 405. The books added were not in the Temple scroll read by Jesus (age 12 and older). The Books of the Maccabees existed but were never considered inspired. The Holy Spirit established the Protestant Reformation to weed out the growing cancer within the CHURCH. The reformers saw INDULGENCES as established by the POPE as evil and a way to fill the coffers of ROME to build lavish edifices and weave jewel encrusted vestments to adorn themselves and those of church authorities who were no more "Christian" than Henry the VIII. These usurpers executed the likes of Tyndale because they dared to translate the Bible into the common languages of the people, and promote reading again. Such would undermine the usurpers control and authority.

I attend a Bible Believing Fundamentalist Evangelical Bible Church that was started in the later 19th century through the Sunday School Bible Union (of which John Wanamaker was involved) in an effort to teach reading to children and adults through Bible study. It's located in the "South" Jersey area, not far from Philly.

Thank you, I myself was a Methodist [ Baptized as a Baby ] , accepted Christ Jesus as my personal Savior in a local park here in my city where I reside as a young teenager and was Baptized by a fundamentalist  Independent Baptist minister/preacher that same day. Another question - are you KJV Only ?, thank you.

I haven't read the whole thread, but:

  1. Why not? ;)
  2. It's fun. :D
  3. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not the only denomination whose members demonstrate concern for our ancestors.  While I know far less about the practices of other faiths, in some ways, Roman Catholics, too, demonstrate such concern, as do some Eastern religions.
  4. Even some historians of Christianity have concluded that Paul's reference to baptism in I Corinthians 15:29 relates to a practice in the early Christian Church which since has been lost to history.
  5. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints take seriously Christ's injunction to Nicodemus that "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God"  (John 3:5).
  6. Why would Christ preach to the spirits in prison if there were no opportunity for them to still be saved (see I Peter 3:19-20, 4:6)?
  7. See also Matthew S. McBride (May 29, 2013) "Revelations in Context: Letters on Baptism for the Dead," Salt Lake City UT: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, https://history.lds.org/article/doctrine-and-covenants-baptisms-for-the-dead?lang=eng, accessed October 31, 2018 and references to the Doctrine and Covenants therein (Doctrine and Covenants 127 & 128); (No author) (No date) Salt Lake City UT: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundations of the Restoration Teacher Manual, Lesson 16, "Redemption of the Dead,"  https://www.lds.org/manual/foundations-of-the-restoration-teacher-manual/lesson-16-redemption-of-the-dead?lang=eng.

Thanks for your sincere question. :)

Pure, pathetic ignorance and what's worse, no inclination to learn.

And you want us to be just like you right?

Just sad sad sad.

I would like you to become more Christlike and  not at all like Smith. I notice that you didn't answer any of my questions. I'm sorry if you find them an embarrassment. But you must admit I'm not naive when the two young men roll up on their bicycles and want to introduce me to ANTHER TESTAMENT of JESUS CHRIST. There is always a trade-off. As for inclinations to learn, I'm sure I know more about your beliefs than you think you know regarding mine...

Honestly, I don't see you as being Christ-like in many of your posts here.  It seems that you rejoice in ignorance... and frankly ignorance is a Christian value.  That's not a Christ-like trait.  And it's one I have zero interest in, and your many ignorant comments on here and lack of interest in getting your facts straight... it's a major turn-off for even talking to you.  And I have zero disire to be like you in this regard.

Frankly, your understanding of even the fundamentals behind the question is extremely flawed.  I don't think you're remotely actually interested in the answers-- in fact it appears that you rejoice in your ignorance.   People aren't going to waste their time answering questions just to be ignored and watch you dance loving ignorance.  The more comments you right here... the more and more I'm convinced you don't know Christ and scorn knowledge.

The Methodist church was a fine church. I find that depending on the congregation one Methodist church can be very evangelical and hold to inerrancy of the Bible Text in general (6 day Creation, Flood, Jesus being Virgin born, etc.); while another is very "MODERN" having thrown John Wesley (to one degree or another) out the window along with marriage being only male and female, male minister, Adam being uniquely created on the 6th day, etc...  I did attend a Calvary Bible Protestant  church for a time and they had indeed split from the UNITED Methodist Assembly due to its "modern" interpretations beginning about the 1930's.

I was raised on the King James Version, and find it very adequate and having a pleasant wording/sentence structure. It also allowed for responsive readings by congregants when it was the sole version. However, I do believe that some of the newer interpretations can help in providing a clearer understanding or even another viewpoint. This helps greatly when regarding issues like baptism for the dead, and the place of water baptism. How long have you been a Mormon believer.

Ignorance of what? Ignorance of being called "dude", ignorance of Mormon virtues, Ignorance of Joseph Smith and his family? You are not defending Christ, you are defending your church. I guess I cannot blame you -- because religion is about all you seem to posses. I'm very sure Jesus was not loved by the temple priests when He flipped over their changing tables and told them exactly what He felt about such antics. I'm sure they felt that He was a troublemaker, dangerous, and not willing to learn their way of doing things...

I  have attended Calvary Chapel and Methodist churches occasionally for 20+ years.  My husband grew up CC and his family still attends there, so we regularly go with them.  My close friend / sister-in-law is Methodist, and I have attended so many good things at her church for many years.  A particular highlight was my niece's baptism.

It was more like a still small voice in my head. My Bible doesn't contradict itself and is full of historically accurate information and fulfilled prophecy. It isn't the work of one man nor many. It is a coherent accurate revelation.

  1.
Rom 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
  2.   James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Was Abraham justified by works or not?

I have had long conversations with CC pastors and they could not answer my questions either. There's nothing there but confusion, no understand ing of the role of spiritual confirmation as a Feeling.

The Bible is rather clear, that only the "church" authorities had the power to perform water baptisms that were acceptable to the church.

"Fundamentalist"??  What is exactly "fundamental" in your church?

Because, bluntly, I find that the Roman Catholic church has very little in common with the church bodies that existed back at that time. They thought that Mary (when they thought of her) was a very blessed sinner much like the rest of them, and they wouldn't think of praying to each other let alone to Mary. They would not call the Bishop of Rome "Pope" only the Father in heaven was the FATHER. They abhorred statuary as pagan. They didn't believe in purgatory (no Biblical evidence). CHRIST's CHURCH worked to establish the Bible and collecting the letters the Apostles' wrote and distributed. And they taught the Word in the language of the common people, Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew and Latin. And they didn't believe in TRANSUBSTANTIATION --- that was to later infiltrate the Roman church and be used as the means to frighten the superstitious under the threat of excommunicated --- both by withholding that and water baptism....  As something only the "church" authorities had power to perform.

So, do you think we were right when we put the Bible together but then went wrong? Something like "the great apostasy"?

With the first sentence, keep it that way.  The thread is not worth the electrons trapped somewhere and definitely not worth your time.  ;)  Just your usual fundamentalist arguments straight out of anti-Mormon sites without even a good understanding OF the anti-Mormon arguments.  Kind of sad really.  Robotics.  Pre-programmed robot stuff.

You've heard it all a million times before.  I got sucked in for some reason- wasted time I will never get back!

As far as the second sentence, fergitaboutit.  No honest question here!  :)

Still really avoids the questions. None of the NT existed when Jesus was reading from the scriptures. The Catholic Church - was the main church for several centuries. They had a concerted effort to wipe out heresy, but more importantly, through the efforts of the Catholic Church, we have the Bible today. The only people maintaining scripture was the Catholic Church. The Protestants sure were not around then. Which brings me to another question (given that you seem to wander I will do the same), by what authority do Protestant churches exist? Who gave them the authority to make their own churches? Apparently, each and every one of them is the result of man's desire to create a church that fits their own wants and needs. None of them claim a restoration - they all just popped up by following a single man's vision of what the church should be.

You use a scripture that was created by the Catholic Church, yet you deny them as the true church. The reasons for leaving the CC are many, but none of them really exist today. You just choose to follow after the teachings of man rather than that of God.

Hello Friend, this is one area where I have never really understood Protestants. Their position never made sense to me. Some 36,000 different Christian denominations, all of them with the Bible, and all of them think they are right. Very few of them have any concept of authority - not a restoration, just a man started a church after his own ideas of what is and what is not important in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I hear a lot of parroting of why they exist, but most of their reasons sound hollow and without understanding.

For there to be a "true" church outside of the Catholic Church there must be some form of restoration. Protestants don't have it and stand condemned as being churches of men.

Nipper, you mentioned goat breeding.  I am curious about what you meant by that and if you believe peeled sticks helped Jacob build his flocks up.

I am not mocking.  I seriously want to know how you believe it works given the description in the Bible.
