Iron is a simple mineral.

And yet it used to be a relatively common cause of deaths of children until it was approached intelligently and with experience:

Considering you are disregarding actual research, this is bizarre.

Generally it is wise to find out what is causing pain before treating it.  For all you know, the pain in those animals was caused by too much salt or other mineral.

You know Calm, I thought about that for a bit, and I concurred.

Then I thought about it more. @hagoth7, is technically correct, despite the waves of hyperbole you have to wade through.

This is just pet ownership in the US: 78 million dogs, and around 85 cats. I am not aware of the rate of obesity for cats off the top of my head, but it is also pretty high and comparable to dogs. With just a 30% obesity rate that is almost 49 million cats or dogs. Not all would be in unnecessary pain (with or without a side dish of hyperbole), but a measurable percentage of those 49 million pets would have health complications from the obesity, and that could–actually, likely–includes suffering and pain.

I agree....technically correct about the pain, way way off about the cause.

His reasoning as far as I can tell is animals are in chronic pain, it is hot outside...therefore heat effects are causing the chronic pain...which disregards the fact that if the animals had chronic pain, they were suffering during the winter as well,

It makes sense to find out what is actually causing pain before treating it and not assume a guess by an amateur is as good as an actual examination by a professional.

Hagoth, what bothers me about this is your solution would actually hurt dogs and yet you don't seem to care, you need to be right or clever in your invention rather than actually caring what would help.  You don't dismiss medical information based on experience and research with a shrug.  That is unkindness, not compassion.

Many things start for the right reason, but if correction is not taken when needed, can turn into things that harm unintentionally.

I have had my dog almost die probably from food someone thought it would be nice to give her (we can't think of how else the piece of meat we found got in the backyard as we hadn't had steak for over a month, there were some workers for road and irrigation at the time next to our yard).  It cost us $600 to save her life.

I don't think I am being particularly nice about it, you are doing better there.

I may have had too much experience with people telling us stuff that has worked so well for them or a friend that will be sure and fix our daughter's diabetes or other issue and gentle correction that it won't work because that is not how her type of diabetes works were ignored, we just needed to have confidence and try it and she would be able to stop being dependent on insulin (they weren't aware of the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes).

People are very kind and want to help, but sometimes their investment in their approach blinds them to the reality of the damage their careless approach would cause or the fact that most of the time chronic problems don't yield to simple solutions due to long term problems throws the body off balance and therefore causes other problems.

I once knew a guy who was feeding his dog a steady diet of garlic one summer on the premise that since a diet high in garlic kept the mosquitoes off him, it would work the same way with the dog. He was concerned about preventing heartworm. Who knows, maybe it worked at keeping mosquitoes away, I doubt it. The dog ended up nearly dying. Kidney and liver damage, anemia, never really recovered. 

He couldn't believe garlic was harmful to dogs because his dog loved it and dogs wouldn't eat anything that would hurt themselves (/boggle). He even wanted to market garlic-mosquito-repellent dog treats. Not Deep Woods Off, but Deep Woofs Off.

My previous dog loved chocolate.  My beagle used to keep eating till she can't move and obviously hurts.  I babysat a dog we had to limit water because it would drink until it threw up.

Dogs are not in a natural environment.  And even there wolves are known to eat poison meat, etc.  Instinct is not enough to handle everything they come across or all animals would die of old age.

My current dog loves to sniff and lick poop.  I shudder to think of what products might be created based on that.

Reportedly, brandex is already at our neighbors' doors. 

Have met them. They *claim* to come in peace. Genuinely hoping they *truly* come in peace. 

Would genuinely prefer to camp for fun side by side instead of for other reasons.
