LDS.org

When I pop up LDS.org I ignore the front page and go to where I want--scriptures, my account/ward info, pay my tithing (yahoo on that).  I rarely pay attention to the front page.  But some time ago I decided to, each time I opened it, view it as if I was viewing it for the first time, as someone who wasn't LDS.

Ugh it's so annoying.  usually it has, what I'd characterize as, self-serving stories--stories used to say "you mean something".  And quite often Jesus or God aren't anywhere to be found.

If I open it now the top stories on the front page are entitled:

Payer, it's your passport to peace

5 promised blessings for keeping your promises to remember

3 ways to help your children recognize, rely on the Spirit

How Counseling together might make you a better teacher

Watch Mormon Tab Choir Pioneer Day concert online

8 Missionary skills to teach your children now

Participate in the worldwide indexing event

I realize lds.org is not meant to be the place for those who aren't LDS and for the first interaction with LDS.  But I'm not ever a fan of the stories on it.  it feels like it misrepresents what I see as my faith.  And I realize there's probably a great deal of effort going into what stories to put in there.  Stories that really resonate most with members (which my explain why I'm so alienated in my ward).  Then again, I'm the odd ball in LDS environments.  Anyway, what's everybody else's take?

My take is that if people say what they see, those who produce the page will consider that input when they determine what to put there.   So write the church digital resources department and share your views.  You'll find this link at the bottom of the lds.org page under Feedback:https://www.lds.org/tools/feedback/?lang=eng&id=11340&note=lds.org:homepage&note=lds.org:/

Kind of looks like one of those click bait web sites if you think about it.  10 reasons for this, 5 ways for that.  I agree, they might want to emphasize the central mission of the church more.

I have.  A couple of times.  But now that you linked it, I did again.  Thanks.

Ah thank you.

You're saying God and Jesus Christ aren't to be found on the hone page of lds.org?  As far as Incan tell the three main stories currently denter on a member of the godhead.

Jesus Christ - 5 Promised Blessings for Keeping Your Pomise to Remember (you didn't seem to see the words Jesus Christ highlighted right above 5 Promised Blessings...)

Prayer, It's Your Passport to Peace (we pray to the Father)

3 Ways to Help Your Children Recognize, Rely on the Spirit (isn't this about feeling the influence of the Holy Ghost)

Three articles that deal specificly with our relationship with God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.  Seems pretty focused on the core doctrines of the church.

I admit I see it differently than most members.  Your post supplies me more evidence that I'm the oddball and the stories are there because those who do it, know that's what members most want.

I get the round about way that the Godhead and it's members are mentioned.  It just feels less explicit.  And, I'm not even saying that's a bad thing.  Maybe just an odd thing.

lds.org definitely serves a difference audience than Mormon.org, for example.  To be honest, I rarely view the videos on the front page.  I just wish I didn't have to click through four pages to get to the Sunday School lesson manual.  "Two clicks to content" is a good design goal.  I realize it's a challenge since they have lots of material to make available.

And church is much more interesting with a few oddballs in the ward.

You promote podcasts all the time.  Why is it a problem here to recognize that most learn best from visual as well as verbal contexts.

IMO, big difference in cost.

I don't use lds.org super often since most things I'd use with my phone app instead. But when I do I don't mind it. I actually went and clicked on the prayer video and enjoyed it. It was a nice start to my morning. Other times the topics don't interest me. But that's true for just about any site I frequent.

with luv,

Perhaps they kind find a way of using the old filmstrips on lds.org that are gathering dust in thre back corners of ward libraries instead of producing new videos. :)

Lds.org reaches millions of people daily, iirc.  Given the size of audience, price per watcher is probably lower.

Those cruel people!  How dare they, on the LDS.Org website, the website for the Church, show articles and videos about God and the Church!   What were they thinking!

But...to be sure I was really upset, I went to the University of Texas website and...darn them!!!!!  They had stuff about the University of Texas!!!!

What is this world coming to!!!!!!!

I just see video after video, and those videos aren't cheap. Too commercialized.

com·mer·cial·ized

designed principally for financial gain; profit-oriented.

"commercialized resort areas"

Funny how one sees that which one wants to see.

18.2 million visitors (not unique) over the last six months.

At least one million of those were members of this board looking up scriptures to post into a thread.

Are you sure?  The site keeps crashing on me, but a very quick look at the graph looks like it is giving daily values for each day for the past six months, not the average value of the last six months each day.

Number 5 will shock you!

I was not shocked.  If we teach our children well, we can help them be aware of good and bad...and what bad adults can do to them.

Seems like a good thing, right?

So its Jun 1 has 18 million and its May 1 has 19 million.  It really looks like it is a once a month count, done on the first of the month.  It makes no sense to have a graph of a six months average posting daily or rather estimating daily by connecting one day a month data points.

Hmm...the setting at the top for me is set at "last month" so it could be a monthly total and not a six month or daily total of 18.2 million.
