I remember Joseph Smith saying he liked the German bible best:

“I have an old edition of the New Testament in the Latin, Hebrew, German and Greek languages. I have been reading the German, and find it to be the most [nearly] correct translation, and to correspond nearest to the revelations which God has given to me for the last fourteen years.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 349)

Well you are quite off topic but I will answer this. He did reveal himself fully in his Revelator, Jesus Christ.

How's that I haven't heard of this revelation, after looking over fifty years?

I love this answer..."Must be your fault";  4999 Gods (from Moslem to Buddhist) yourself cannot see or testify and yet you have a precious one expect me to see or witness.....

Well I've been a member since 1993 and I read about it myself in the mid 90's. Its also in the Joseph Smith manual. So yeah, if you haven't heard it you're not putting in enough effort (like actually reading the lessons and showing up for class)

In Church? The King James. It's the common book of scripture for Saints. I also enjoy it for its language and contributions to both the Restoration and the English language.

For study? Probably the New Oxford Anotated. Though I try to keep my Church-issued KJV nearby to consult any Joseph Smith Translations on hand.

How ironic, would you revel yourself like Him too? If I want to reveal myself what would I do?

Well, first, if I hadn't gotten myself my own body for my spirit to inhabit, I would go down as he did, and I did, and you did too, to get myself my own body for my spirit to inhabit.

And believe it or not that is exactly what he did, and I did, and you did too.

Now this next time he will be coming back with the body he got the first time, with that body now being in its resurrected condition.

Ahab, sorry but this resurrection stuff does not compute with me. Do you ever watch any zombie movies, for me, I can't even enjoy those type of movies where people come back from dead....

It's not a zombie kinda thing.  Not even a little bit, because a resurrected body isn't all putrified and disgusting looking with bits of flesh hanging off.  And there will be no limping around or sleepy-like grunts and slobbers.  So try to get that kind of mental picture out of your head.

Instead think of your body becoming even better than it ever was while you were mortal, including the state of your mortal body as it is right now.  You will still look a lot like you look now, though. Mainly just better looking and in better, even perfect, physical health, with you then continuing to enjoy your perfect physical condition forever.

And yes I know that is very hard for you to imagine and believe right now.  It's even kinda hard for me to imagine what I will be like when that eventually happens to me.

Sorry Ahab but nothing you hope has any chance to come to reality anytime soon. I can't stand any type of zoombie gig because I find them absurdly untealistic.

The KJV for me has sentimental value but is very poor for any academic purposes.  For all around reliability I like the NRSV.  For deeper use I like the Jewish Study Bible(Oxford) for the Hebrew Bible and for the New Testament Gospels I think The Complete Gospel Parallels(scholars version) is best.

ESV is what I use most these days.

I like the KJV in spite of the dated language, because it sounds nicer and so much English literature quotes it.  I have not noticed any substantial differences in meaning between it and ESV.  It was what I studied for a long time, so the not so modern language doesn't throw me off.

NLT is my lazy way of clarifying a verse or passage that confuses me.  It does not always clarify anything.  And ever so often I run into verses or passages that seem substantially different from ESV/KJV at times. I understand it leans to interpretive rather than literal, so the text may be shorter or longer and use way different words and phrases, but sometimes the interpretation/meaning seems different than ESV/KJV, too.

NET, with all the footnotes, is my go to for a deeper dig or tiebreaker.  Because I am not a serious enough student of the bible to want to learn ancient Hebrew or Greek.

I never did care for NIV.  I can't really put my finger on why.  The one I got found its way to a second hand bookstore in pretty short order.  I chalk it up to a matter of taste, like how I hate American Chinese food, especially in buffets.  Maybe all the years I only used KJV ruined me for any other translation with a substantially different lineage.

I'm honestly surprised how many mentions ESV is getting on this thread.  It's not that old (comparatively speaking), but obviously it's gaining adoption & respect.

He does reveal Himself to those who truly seek Him. It just isn't in the way that we expect Him to. I am reminded of a time when I was helping my daughter to learn how to listen to the very real answers to prayers of faith. I was led to ask her what she could hear. It was quiet because it was night and I live in a rural area. I asked her to tell me everything she could hear. She told me she could hear the waves crashing in the back ground, the occasional car passing by every so often, and nothing else. I said are you sure. We listened for around five minutes while I kept hearing, the entire time, crickets chirping really loud just outside our open window. Finally she said no I hear nothing else. Then I pointed out the crickets and she was so amazed at how she hadn't even noticed them because they were by far the loudest thing that was going on, the entire time. After that she couldn't stop hearing them.

Perhaps you just haven't opened yourself up to listening for God, which will eventually lead you to seeing Him in person if you listen and obey Him, who won't show Himself just to squash any learning how to have faith first. He loves us too much to just show himself to entertain our lack of trying to gain the personal growth that we couldn't get the whole time we were with Him, before we even came to this Earth, not because He lacks in courage. I know it has benefited my kids to adjust going to nursery and primary, when they were little by keeping myself from their view as I checked in on how well they were handling being all alone in a classroom of strange people that they weren't yet used to being around. Often times they would only cry and make a scene when they actually caught me looking in. Before they noticed me they were doing just fine. He is a loving Father to us and wants the best for us on a personal level. It makes me sad that you haven't experienced that awesome love yet.
