VideoGameJunkie Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Which temple do you feel the biggest connection with? For me, it so far is obviously the Boston temple since that's where I took out my endowment, worked as a Baptistry Coordinator, did work for many relatives including my grandparents, and it's from my home city. Whatever temple I'm eventually sealed in to a spouse and my parents will eventually take over the spot closest to my heart, but for now it's Boston. Since I now live in Utah, I've been to Provo, Payson, Salt Lake, and Mt. Timpanogas, and out of all those I like Payson the best, but so far the Boston temple is my favorite.

I received my endowments in Logan, but more close to my heart, my husband asked me to marry him when we were in the celestial room. Manti is where we were married and that's the temple we have hung on our wall. Gilbert because I led tours through it. Jordan River because I went with each of my children there for their first time. Memphis because my daughter was pretty insistent on going inside when she was three to marry daddy. Palmyra and Nauvoo because of feelings there. Mesa because of the love of the people for my husband and children when they do baptisms. Etc. Edited February 12, 2016 by Rain 1

It's incredible how the Church has grown in So Cal since I was a girl growing up... I was a member of Fontana ward, San Bernardino Stake because there was no ward in Rialto... In 1956 I attended the dedication of the new Los Angeles temple... it was the only one in So Cal... now Rialto is a Stake, and there are also temples in Redlands and Newport... GG
rongo Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) I have very fond memories of attending the Chicago temple weekly in the months prior to my mission (I received my endowment there). That will always be my temple. I'm not a big fan of the cultural celebrations associated with new temples, but I do have to say that they really bind the youth to those temples. Our youth consider the Gilbert temple to be "their" temple, and they loved the experience. My wife and I *loved* the whole experience of going to the Frankfurt temple back in 2009. We were coming to the FAIR Conference, and flew in our Church clothes and took the train straight to Friedrichsdorf from the airport. We knew that we would have to change trains a couple of times, but it wasn't clear exactly when, and we were concerned about missing our connection. We asked a woman when we needed to switch for Friedrichsdorf, and she said she is from there and told us. She smiled and said that we must be going to "der Tempel," and went out of her way to make sure that we didn't miss it. She wasn't LDS. We walked from our hotel in Friedrichsdorf, and I had a general idea of where it was, but had to ask for directions. As I described where we wanted to go in terms of streets, a man said, "You're looking for the temple." He gave us good directions, and then said, "There's a big gold angel on it --- you can't miss it." The angel Moroni just hits you, because the temple is in a depression and the spire is a little higher than street level (seemed that way, anyway). The temple is surrounded by church office buildings, a stake center, and a church hotel for long-distance travelers. Several of the workers in our session, including the officiator, were at the FAIR Conference. He was a doctor in Heidelberg, and insisted that we stay with him. We were very sorry not to be able to (Heidelberg is supposed to be gorgeous) because we had a tight itinerary and had already bought train tickets (we had to be in Strasbourg, France on Sunday for a fireside). Frankfurt has the added bonus of looking like the Chicago temple because it was built at the same time (a trait shared by others of that time: Boise and Dallas. Salt Lake is dear to me because in 1955 it is where our family was sealed for the eternities... and Portland is where in 1999 I received my endowment and later served as an ordinance worker for almost six years, and attend regularly... Glad to see you're still hanging around. The Oakland Temple was where my wife and I were married. So it will always hold a special place in my heart. 1

Cardston because that's where my family was sealed when I was 4, an event I still remember despite being vaguely fuzzy. Spokane because that's where I was endowed, which was a very special experience.

My husband arrived here before we did and started attending the ward where our rental house would be in the Gilbert district. He went to church on the last day you could sign up for the celebration so he signed our kids up. My kids loved being a part of it though often the first thing they mention was how cold they were when they were soaked! Against our original plans we bought a house in the Mesa district and moved in the week after the celebration. The Mesa temple is very clearly the temple of choice for them, (and not just because of distance), but the celebration I think bound them to temple work in general and to some extent to Mesa specifically. While I still am not sure this ward is where we were meant to be like my husband is, we all feel sure that the timing of us being in the Gilbert district was the Lord's.
stemelbow Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 The Jordan river temple is nearest to my house which is where I often find myself and my heart, but I suppose at any given time I could be closer to Draper, or SLC, or Bountiful, or Ogden, for that matter. My body is a temple is happens to be closer to my heart than all of them, even when I sitting in the Celestial room. Honestly not sure I have a favorite.

Mesa is where I first did baptisms for the dead as a deacon. I've had people from that ward tell me as an adult that they still remember me defending the Church against the protesters as a deacon (on the sidewalk by the Dairy Queen). Good times! We've also had many sealings in that temple. Working on the grounds is fun!

Eventually though the angel Moroni got put up.

I hope for it to be the temple I marry in and I've been set apart to be a temple worker there....among other things. It feels like "my" temple. Of the ones actually dedicated, the DC and Dallas were the temples of my childhood and the Provo is the one I served in the most. With luv, BD 1
