Waaaaaaaaiiiiiiitttttt, what? Mars?

I'm having trouble understanding if the New Jerusalem is on Mars, or if John saw it from Mars.

I'm not one to judge another religion on their cosmology given our own esoteric astronomy, but this is a new one.

Huh...and here I was thinking he/she was your run of the mill Evangelical Protestant like a few of our other friendlier posters on the board.

Apparently the owner of the board is a man called Troy Brooks who is currently calling for those who see themselves as the 12 apostles to get together to establish his vision.  I do not know if he sees himself as one of those apostles (the twelve are different from the local apostles that there are apparently some of on the message board, don't know if any have been identified as one of the 12).  There are currently 74 members of his board and using google search on "troy brooks" and "christian" only brings up about 8,700 hits, most from a quick scan are probably not dealing with the same person.  So a very local movement so far.

There is something that just makes me giggle about a person describing us in a cult and not following the bible....when he/she remarks about mars as a new earth and may certifiably be in a real cult themselves.

You can't do anything but laugh at that. lol.

Trust me, Kolob is just as weird.  I almost bolted from the church when I heard about that

I think maybe this is a group that sees us as "competition" so they are looking for reasons why they are right and we are wrong- so inconsistencies in the BOM would be a big deal.

Watchman Nee's bio sounds a lot like Joseph Smiths

Intelligent young man, spiritually inclined goes seeking for the truth, has a spiritual experience and starts a church.

Also their belief in "Eldership" puts us in a similar category to their possible beliefs on authority, hence the "locator" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elder_(Christianity)

Dunno.  Just speculation

It gets better:

I followed the link on Watchman Nee, which led me to the Plymouth Brethern Church, and I typed in Troy Brooks + Plymouth Brethern Church into Google.

Guess what?

This isn't CARM-diet, this is the anti-CARM according to Matt Slick of all people. Apparently Troy Brooks and his board routinely bombard the CARM discussion boards, get banned, sign up again, and post a slew of links and threads before getting banned again. Matt Slick can't stand the guy, even noting that unbelievers on his board follow the board rules better.

Huh, who woulda thunk it?

To quote that famous "friend of Mormonism," Mark Twain,

The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also.

Honestly, I think people here on the board have been far more surprised and critical of the guy's methodology more than his doctrine.

It's just been a bit of a surprise to find out he wasn't your average preacher, from an outlier sect.

I found their opinion on the gift of tongues, which if I understand correctly is similar to ours in that they see the true gift as dealing with actual languages.  They appear to use the laying on of hands for authority as well as healing and condemn the casual use as seen in TV evangelists.  Most of their beliefs seemquite logical given their assumptions but in a few it seems to me they become hyper focus on one verse and build an extensive belief around it or in a few cases use things like numerology as which is connecting something that isn't connected in that fashion.

I find the beliefs to be much more intellegent than the attempts to critize our faith with their limited understanding of our culture, beliefs, doctrine.  If he truly cares to bring soulsto Christ, then teaching his truth rather than the mostly falsehood attact on our own faith is a much more effective way of sharing what truth you are blest with.

There is a problem...how to talk to those who are best at conveying the idea of their faith when since we abide by the rules of a community I would hope we would not lie in order to be accepted andsteal others' work to present it as their own, but the only one who comes speaks little of his faith, the recovery and how it develops historical, the 12 apostles present but unfound as of yet. He comes intent not on discussion, but destruction, not on learning and teaching, but leering and mocking.

Perhaps TB's board could allow to participate those who answer a nonbelieving list of questions requiring them to be civil and to read a certain amount to allow possible investigators tp learn of your faith rather than have most nonmembers encounter your group only when under attack.

Excellently put.

Honestly, I would love to see savedwheat elaborate more on what HE/SHE believes rather than poorly attempt to explain what we believe and why it's wrong. Show us the fruits, what you think about God, salvation, the structure of your church, the leadership, ceremonies, and practices. What can women and children do or not do in your church?

Even if he couches it in terms of "I believe my church structure is more reflective of Christ's church and this is why," I think that would generate a lot more positive feedback.

Savedwheat, if you're reading this, please listen. We don't like banning people, and like to see new faces. Non-Mormons who wish our conversion post here all the time, are just as open about it, but maintain a positive dialogue.

Look on the thread on "Notions of Grace" to see both Five Solas and Coolrok for examples.

I suspect that the Mars bit isn't from Watchman Nee.

Here's an interesting post from Savedwheat's Biblocality board

"The pastor of the first Satanic church and the author of the Satanic bible Anton LaVey, in his Satanic bible lists INFERNAL NAMES in Greek mythology such as "Mormo" the god of the living dead and king of the ghouls who was a spirit that bit bad children and was a companion of the goddess Hecate. Children are born into this cult of Mormo and fear is put in them constantly to stay in check otherwise they will be bitten. How evil that parents would do this to their own children. The followers of Mormo are called Mormons. The name was also used to signify a female vampire-like creature in stories told to Greek children by their nurses to keep them from misbehaving. This reference is primarily found in some of the plays of Aristophanes.[1][2] He is also referenced in The Alexiad, which goes to show that Mormo was still taught to children during Byzantine times. The Mormo would steal children in revenge of Queen Laestrygonian who was deprived by her children.

Milton Iwaasa named his daughter Alexis Iwaasa. In the Alexiad it says "babies are scared by Mormo". In the film The God Makers, anti-Mormon activist Ed Decker claims that Mormons are followers of Mormo, citing The Satanic Bible as evidence. Opponents of this theory note that The Satanic Bible was published almost 140 years after the Book of Mormon was translated.[3] But of course, the Greek Mormo came before Mormonism."

They even have a picture of Mormo biting a baby. (I was going to post it but it's pretty graphic) I wonder if this is where people get the idea of Mormons eating their babies?

Good grief, are we sure we aren't dealing with more Westboro types, here?

Welp, the jig is up. On the word of a satanist and a Wikipedia article this good Christian has found us out through his deep study (I.e. Someone taught him to use Google).

Can we contain the truth. I have the sheep's blood and eel's bladder. Should I summon Mormo and sic him on this mouthy heretic?

Well, apparently Savedwheat didn't take kindly to being placed on Limited status.
He PM'd me that he was leaving and we could visit him on the Biblocality board if we wanted to speak with him on doctrine again.

Would it be a sin for me to lie to get on that board. I think I would have to to avoid their screening process.
