why me Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Allowing consig back on the board was a change for this board. This board used to be a hard hitting board with many critics and defenders debating it out. It was quite educational and helpful. Then, the major critics left the board. Some were banned whiles others just left. The board became rather tame with the majority of critics being members of the lds church who had issues with the church. Many defenders were put on limited for various of reasons. Now maybe the board has shifted again. Consig is back as a critic, pushing buttons etc. No problem with this at all. The best way to treat consig is to match his posts and defend the church. Consig used to be an apologist and so, he knows all the issues to bring up and throw at the church members. One just has to be aware of his background and respond accordingly.

Perhaps that's the reason why you don't get what I'm trying to say? All I'm saying is that it would be nice to be able to have a forum on this site where members of the Churvh could discuss the Gospel without comments from a 'peanut gallery' of Church enemies who drag nearly each thread into the realm of anti-Mormonism. Far from being "Utopian," a separate forum for Church members only would feature a tremendous amount of passionate debate and conflicting opinions (some of the most knock-down drag-out debates I've had on this board have been with other active Church members) because there is enough diversity of opinion within the ranks of the Church (think, for example, conservative vs progressive members) that the forum would be more than lively. But it would be a place where Church members with a wide diversity of opinions could debate as a Church family without commentary from enemies of the Church who all too frequently.sidetrack what could otherwise be productive discussions. And remember, the rest of the Board's forums would remain exactly as they are now. Here's the most important reason why I believe a separate member forum would be a good idea: As the world ripens more and more in iniquity, I believe it won't be long before it will be impossible to have a civil and edifying discussion of the LDS faith anywhere on the Internet. In fact, I predict that within 5 years this site will be almost completely commandeered by enemies of the Church and it will be quite nearly impossible to have a.friendly and productive doctrinal discussion of the LDS faith. THERE IS EVEN THE DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT WITHIN FIVE YEARS TIME EVEN A MEMBERS ONLY FORUM WILL BECOME DISTINCTLY ANTI-MORMON (by then there will be many more members who will come out in open opposition to the Prophet and the other Church leaders), but at least in a members only forum the debate will be amongst opposing factions within the Church without compounding the conflict by including outside enemies of the Church into the debates who would by shear numbers be able to tilt any and all discussions in favor of the member factions who have turned against the leaders of the Church. But do I think anything will be done to keep this site from being largely taken over by those who oppose the LDS faith and its leaders? Not at all likely. you're a positive thinker. I like that. Zakuska Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I feel honored to be singled out and on the top of the list of Do badders. 1
Storm Rider Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I don't think having a fourth forum is such a bad idea for the purpose of discussing gospel topics in a positive way would be a bad thing. I can even see several advantages. Two of the other three forums have the same topics repeatedly brought up and it gets rather tiresome and boring. Though I have never considered myself an apologist, I do appreciate discussions that build up the Spirit rather than ones that are consistently from opposite poles. I don't recommend this site to everyone; for some I have told them to steer clear of it. The name is misleading and at times the pendulum is far more critical than supportive of the Church and its teachings. Two concerns: if this forum were to be created I may easily be viewed as a critic at times. Second, would it get enough traffic? If there are not enough participants then it looses its raison d'être.
Tacenda Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I feel this board is gold. It's a middle wayer like me! But see how you might feel Bobbie! I wish I could restrain from posting so negatively. I'll work on that.

Reminds me of a true story I once heard about an incorrigible, 'free-spirited'priest age boy from rural Utah who was sitting at the sacrament table one Sunday morning, poised to bless the sacrament. But before the prayer could continue any further our 16 year-old 'Huck Finn' wannabe bellowed loudly into an open microphone with a deep voice saying, "Y-E-E-E-E-E-E-S?" As the story goes, the indignant bishop arose from his seat, walked over to the prankster, grabbec him by the scruff of his neck, and in that attitude bruskly "escorted" the young man out of the chapel and into the hall. VideoGameJunkie Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Bobbie I have an idea for your exclusive forum. How about we have to enter our membership number and prove we have a current temple recommend to be able to post in the forum?
etz Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 “If we have the truth, [it] cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.” - J. Reuben Clark How would one who possessed the truth behave in the presence of contrary opinions?

It is something I try to guard myself against, becoming like him. So I guess he serves in some fashion at least, as a cautionary tale. Edited January 21, 2016 by Stargazer 2
Calm Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 There are those who disagree that manage to do so in a civil manner. There are some who agree with traditional LDS stances that are jerks. It is not the truth or lack thereof that is the measure of jerkness.
etz Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I kind of think it is. Truth, after all, is knowledge of the way things have been, are, and shall be - anything more or less than this is the spirit of the devil. I had to learn, the hard way, that whenever I grow offended, it's because I've been hit where I'm weak, where either I'm morally wrong, or lacking in knowledge but with a vested interest in the belief. Your mileage may vary. 1
etz Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Sometimes, truth hurts, and i'm more inclined to think the speaker is a jerk just for my pains.

He's not interested in truth, he's interested in destruction. What the hell is he here for, except to gratify his lust for bringing everyone down with him? Take a look at Salgare, who in contrast actually cares about people, for all that he's gone off another kind of deep end. At least his heart is in the right place -- he cares about his family, and even us poor benighted Mormons. Even if for the sake of argument Consig were right, I would sooner follow a fable than the dark night of his soul. Not to give him some unwanted advice, but he needs to read How to Win Friends and Influence People. And this is the Social Hall so this really has no place here. In case anyone is interested, I am going to blow out of this forum for awhile. I might be back in two or three weeks. I need to recharge my batteries and this isn't the place to do it at the moment. Ciao. 1

etz Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 But should truth be packaged prettily and sold as anything other than pure truth? I wonder. It's an open question to me.

etz Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 There would, indeed. Who else do we esteem as our enemies except those who pain us in some fashion or other?
