Duncan Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I can't recall if this has been brought up before but do you think the Provo Temple, not the Provo City Centre Temple, will be redesigned? I figure if Ogden got a new sprucing up and the Provo City Centre got one, why not the Provo Temple?

They would have to bus missionaries to other places. Plus, it's extremely busy with other patrons too it would be hard for other temples to take on all those who were misplaced. I'm sure those issues aren't insurmountable though, if leadership really wanted it done. 1

When I was on my mission at the LTM (now called MTC) the Provo Temple wasn't finished yet so we did take a bus down to the Manti Temple. 1

Calm Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I think they would likely want all the surrounding temples, including the new Payson and soon to be open Provo Central one to be moving towards maximum capacity before they redo it. As long as it is fulfilling needs, I don't think people will care enough about how it looks to want it to be unavailable for a couple of years. If it turns out that a larger temple is needed for the area (I don't think the area will grow that much but I could be wrong) due to increased usage (either because of increased density of population or increased attendance of individuals), I think they might redo and enlarge it it before adding another one to the area.

If they did anything, it would probably just be to spruce up the interior and some superficial exterior things in pieces as they already have (all of the major bathrooms were massively upgraded a couple of years ago). It'll eventually get remodeled (just is the nature of buildings), but I doubt in the next few years, especially with Jordan River being shut down for renovation. 1
sunstoned Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I don't think any effort will happen soon. Especially with the recent influx of missionaries into the MTC. If the temple was closed, they would have to be bussed to downtown Provo.

Plus the provo temple doesn't have a major need (minus feasibly the interior) for as extensive renovations. But of course, anything is possible. I found an article from 5 years ago saying the jordan river temple wouldn't get renovated....so anything is possible. And they have both german temples closed at the same time for renovations. My only point was if they are willing to close down JR, busy-ness, while a factor, won't prevent them from closing a temple.

If I remember right JRT seated about 120 in a room, provo 98. When timp opened it likely beat the other two in live sealings.

With the masses, the game went ... as you peeled out of the seats headed for the veil, the women matching up with ya on that walk was your intended. Those pesky pretty ones would rush ahead trying to avoid a side by side line up. ah the good old days! 1
Rain Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Jordan River may not be that busy anymore since the Draper and Oquirrh Hills were built. Before then I could go in for initiatory sometimes and there would be a 2 hour wait to get in. Once they were built that time was cut considerably. Still busy though - Jordan was closer to me, but I would sometimes go to the other two because the wait was shorter.
