Testimonies Of Having The Truth From Other Faith Traditions

... So hey, maybe you are all influencing me step by step.  I just share this because I want you to know in spite of my ups and downs here, as well as my at times strident comments... I am an honest seeker of truth.

That's good.  I'm pleased to know you've had positive faith-related experiences lately.  I would encourage you, when considering information promulgated by the various sources of information regarding things of faith, to consider whether the promulgator might have an agenda which you have failed to recognize or to acknowledge, has your best interests at heart, may have one or more axes to grind, and so on.  I made a good-faith effort to attempt to engage the post that spawned this thread, but, to me, I found it (and/or its author) to be agenda-driven, to not have my best interests at heart, to (rather plainly) have axes to grind, and so on.  I think that whether the Spirit manifests truth to adherents of other religions is the wrong question: the only relevant question is whether He manifests truth to me, and whether my religious observance bears good fruit in my life. For me, the answer to both of those questions is a resounding "Yes!"  I submit that your experiences are evidence that your religious observance bears good fruit in your life, as well, and whatever questions remain, that's what most important.  I encourage you to hold onto that and to nourish the seed of your faith, however fragile.

I have been rather pointed in my responses to you.  I would like you to know that, while I have what are to me good reasons for that, that I bear you any ill will is not one of them.

I wish you well.

P.S.: And no, I don't think you're a filthy apostate.  I'm sure you shower on a [fairly] regular basis. ;):D

So I am interested if, after you actually read the essay and the non LDS testimonies provided what your thoughts are on what seems a fairly universal phenomena in the experience of people all faiths. And how can this method be reliable when so many use it and come up with mutually exclusive conclusions?

This is a complicated topic on how to prove whose testimony is true and whose is false when the

devil leads people astray and to believe they are correct but when in fact they are wrong.

I suppose that if you believe the Bible is the Word of God, you'll be able to use it to spot the deceptions

of other religious groups.  But then again, some might make a similar case for Islam and the Quran.

In the end it comes down to who has a correct understanding of who Jesus really is.  I believe God

has given everyone the opportunity to seek and to find.

Thanks,

Jim

Even those who lived in a time or location where the existence of Jesus was not known?

This is a good example of why Zelph on the Shelf has failed to impress (it really is like a crappier version of the Salamander Society, but for millennials). The section on Judaism shows that "Carrington" has utterly no understanding of the topic. The thing is, prayer is not being used to know the truth, as it is in Mormonism. Eliezrie is discussing ecstasy during prayer. Having a spiritual experience during prayer is not identical to what is promised in Moroni 10. In all my years growing up in Israel i have never once encountered someone teaching that prayer should be used like that.

Fascinating, you got any more of those?

I found it with a quick Google search.

If the Holy Spirit confirms the truthfulness of things to us, then it can confirm the truthfulness of things we read - including what is scripture and what is not. The Holy Spirit is promised to those who seek after Him.

Often here I have pointed out that personally I have found the claim to have a witness of the truth by the Holy Ghost as unreliable as a method for determining what really is the truth or the God's best religion. When making that point I have noted that human beings from all sorts of other religions and faith traditions claim to have had spiritual witnesses that what they beleive us in fact God's true path. Such traditions conflict with LDS truth claims as well as others. Thus this method seems unreliable

Many here have said argued that that these claims are not like the LDS claim of spiritual witnesses and thus not the same thing and perhaps even some other inferior experience. Others simply claim others experience was in fact not the Holy Ghost and what they think God was telling them was really something else and thus false.

Here is a link that discusses this issue. But of most interest is the variety of testimonials they provide. Many/most of them, especially the Christian based ones as well as the ones from Islam, sound just like an LDS testimony. Just change some names and they are just the same.

I believe the Holy Spirit does guide people towards truth no matter what sect they are in. If they are a very contrite and humble baptist, they might receive healing from God even without the true priesthood. As a young Baptist boy, I heard YHWH's voice, and yet I became dissatisfied with the Baptist sect and converted to LDS Christianity which I believe holds the keys to the true Way. Does that mean I believe my experience while sitting in a Baptist Bible class was untrue or of Satan? I say no - not at all. Although some might have taken that experience to mean that only the Baptist Church is true, I did not. I'm sure God is pleased whenever any one seeks after the true principles of God - even if they are in the Muslim faith for instance - and will lead them to do what is right if they so seek. Otherwise God would have no power to lead people away from untrue sects - and one has to admit, they can't all be true. The Koran says "there is no compulsion in religion" and yet if a muslim woman in Arabia tries to leave Islam, the usual punishment is death - sounds like "compulsion" to this cowboy. So, I believe the truth is, the Holy Spirit may strive with man wherever God has placed him in the world, in order to lead them towards truth, but this doesn't mean the they have found the whole truth.

While I agree, I am a bit puzzled as to what this has to do with my post.

Hello. Per "contradictions" between different faiths how about how about applying the same logic we apply internally to our own faith?

I.E. Whenever we are unable to resolve a contradiction in our own relgion, we often say "well, we don't have all the pieces at present but ultimately revelation will clarify it for us. Sounds good.

So if Islam, Christianity, judaism, zoroastrianism, daheshism et al. seem to compete in truth claims, maybe that is just the perception of very limitted mortals.

We are like those creatures in flat land trying to resolve things in three dimensions when we can't.

All our claims could be valid at a higher state of understanding.

Agreed.

But others do not see it that way.  Sigh.

And so people kill each other over this very point.

Hello Jim, I don't think that knowing correct doctrine will save one person that has ever lived on the earth.  I believe that faith without a corresponding response in our daily actions is of no value.  Too often we become overly focused on the "exterior" things when we should also focus on the interior things:  patience, charity, love, forgiveness, and kindness.  These qualities are directly related to a changed heart that yearns for Christ.

Cheers,

Michael

re: youtube video

Some also teach that the Hindu Vedas equate Jesus with Prajapati.  But when you examine

their scripture, it does not ring true.

The video you showed has Horus born on Dec 25. Jesus was not. The part about Seth and Horus

being brothers seems like Mormonism, but I don't adhere to that. Seth (Lucifer) did not send

Horus (Jesus) to the underworld on a nightly basis.  I suppose the same person doing this video

believes humans evolved from apes since they also have 2 arms and 2 legs...

Jim

I agree to an extent.  But I am not of the opinion that those who believe and teach of Jesus

as Michael the Archangel have a correct understanding of who God really is.  I believe that

the scriptures give us ample opportunity to detect those who would come along and preach

a false Christ. After all, the Apostle Paul warned us about it.

Thanks,

Jim
