stemelbow Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 So you've listened to one podcast and you've now determined that he's apostate (or heading that direction)? This is ridiculous. You haven't answered my CFR. Please do so. And, either start identifying actual things Bill has said or written that are "anti" or retract the claim. or perhaps the rest of us should just laugh this off and ignore him, as he comments about Bill or anyone else for that matter.
jkwilliams Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I think he's too biased towards the church. I'd say how much I enjoy his podcast, but I don't want to taint him with my unbelieving purposes.
Hamilton Porter Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 You CFR 90% are ridiculous. Obviously it's an approximation. But if you must, go take what he writes and classify them as positive toward the church and negative, and give me a ratio. In retrospect probably unfair to compare a decent, temple-going guy like Bill to that narcissistic jackass. I should have qualified my comparison in the OP.

stemelbow Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 this is so funny. you know this is a moderated board. You tryna git banned bruh? It's quite a tribute to see so much defense here. I'm thinking if someone started a thread titled "Stemelbow: The new John Dehlin?" and then followed by accusing me of being anti-Mormon, I wouldn't get near as much support...that's not to complain or nothing, meant as a compliment to Bill Reel.

Generally, it's bad form to start a thread attacking a fellow board member, so I would think people would defend you if it happened to you.

As you are the one pointing the finger, shouldn't you be the one to classify Bill Reel's commentary. I am positive you would have a easy task of recruiting others to help you. I can just imagine the head lines about a 2nd "Hit Piece" writtent by the shepards threshing the flock of the wolves.

I would start a thread entitled: "Stemelbow: a danger to children?" and then detail how little children should not ride motorcycles without helmets. Seriously though, Bill also is a fan of bikes. You'd like him.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I have my own feelings about Bill. But what ever. What I think is interesting are the people sticking up for him. BTW I am not defending HP. Carry on. Should be a good thread.
DBMormon Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 by the way for those who wish to judge % of anti vs faith promoting be my guesthttp://www.mormondiscussionpodcast.org/

DBMormon Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Spoken like a true wolf in sheep's clothing.ditto.. lol
why me Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Bill is open for discussion because he makes mormon podcasts and as such he is a public figure. So, his content can be judged and interpreted. He is not a private figure. To judge his podcasts as being pro or con, one must listen to them and form a judgement. And then discuss such judgements. Is his podcasts stressing more pro or con? Does he cause members to doubt or does he strengthen faith? We just need to question his ideas about the church and his reason to have podcasts. So why would this thread be closed? Why would a monson thread be closed etc? Public figures can be open for discussion on this board. Many have been and many will be. He also adverts his doings on his posting page. Edited August 3, 2015 by why me
ttribe Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I have my own feelings about Bill. But what ever. What I think is interesting are the people sticking up for him. Why?
ttribe Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It's guilt by association. That's what I'm wondering.
jkwilliams Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 That's what I'm wondering. Obviously, if people like us are defending him, he must be pretty darned evil.
ERayR Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 1- Bill posts on this board. How would you feel if I started a thread "Is Hamilton Porter An Apostate?" You probably wouldn't like it so try to have some respect for others on the board. 2- It's FOWLER's stages of Faith. At least get your complaint right. 3- The anti's are begging people to read the church essays? How dare they refer people to church sources. And no, sources don't speak for themselves. Commentary is a regular part of life and discussion. 4- You seem to have Bill all figured out. I assume you've listened to all of his podcasts and read his commentaries and articles, right. You're sure comfortable passing judgement so I hope you're at least informed enough to back up your claims. 5- Don't be a jerk and attack someone's education or intelligence. It tells us much more about you than him.Seems like fair questions to ask about someone who is holding out to the public that they are knowledgeable about the LDS Church.
ERayR Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Generally, it's bad form to start a thread attacking a fellow board member, so I would think people would defend you if it happened to you. Why is opposition bad form?
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Generally, it's bad form to start a thread attacking a fellow board member, so I would think people would defend you if it happened to you. I have no comment on the thread topic. But regarding the phrase "fellow board member": Is this a fraternity or something? 1
Bob Crockett Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Aw, don't pick on Bill. He's got a hobby he enjoys. So far he says he has had the endorsement of stake presidents and general authorities.
