canard78 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I have my own feelings about Bill. But what ever. What I think is interesting are the people sticking up for him. BTW I am not defending HP. Carry on. Should be a good thread. Like I said... the fact that it's many of the "moderate" / "liberal" / "progressive" / "borderlands" board members sticking up for him is probably something that hard-liners like yourself take great pleasure in and consider to be evidence in and of itself. The beautiful irony is that these are precisely the people Bill had in mind when creating the podcast. I don't think he was ever particularly interested in getting the approval of people like yourself.
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Hang on! The board censors Charles ****ens but (sorry... D.i.c.k.ens) but allows jackass? Is the latter only rude in UK? I'm almost tempted to try a few naughty British words and see if they get through the censors... but that would probably be ill-advised.I've always understood jackass to be potentially insulting but not vulgar; that is, it refers to a mule, not a body part. Maybe the connotation is different across the pond, as it were.
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member." - Groucho MarxThat's a great quote -- one I've used before. Did you borrow it from me?

Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 On the mormondialogue.org home page, one can find 4 tabs, from left to right MD&D FORUM MEMBERS CHAT. If you click on MEMBERS when not signed in you get a error message which reads "You do not have permission to view the member listing."OK. So I guess I am a member. Who knew?
jkwilliams Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 In the immortal words of Allen "Farina" Hoskins of the 'Our Gang' comedies fame: "You said a moooooooouthful!" So, I can put in you the "John is evil" category?
jkwilliams Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 That's a great quote -- one I've used before. Did you borrow it from me? I borrowed it from Groucho. My favorite quote from him is, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

(Just testing) Sorry... random tangent.
rockpond Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 You CFR 90% are ridiculous. Obviously it's an approximation. But if you must, go take what he writes and classify them as positive toward the church and negative, and give me a ratio. In retrospect probably unfair to compare a decent, temple-going guy like Bill to that narcissistic jackass. I should have qualified my comparison in the OP.It's not an approximation - it's slander and it's unbecoming the level of discourse we ought to have on this board. Board rules: you make the claim, you back it up or retract it. It's now clear you have nothing to support what you said. If you want to analyze things that Bill has said that you feel are "anti" I'm up for it in the interest of honest analysis. But your OP is unsupportable. Besides... There can't be a "new Dehlin" when the old Dehlin is still out there doing his thing.
ERayR Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 So, I can put in you the "John is evil" category? One doesn't have to be evil to be wrong. Case in point: I am a lovable little fuzz ball and according to some I am wrong about----
canard78 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Hmmm... interesting. Maybe it isn't so bad over here either. So if I say "***" will the board moderate that too? (Just testing) Sorry... random tangent. Ah... yes it will. So Jackass ok, *** not ok (even if intended as the animal). ****ens bad... what about bene****? Sorry... I'll really stop it now.
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I borrowed it from Groucho. My favorite quote from him is, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."I'm aware of its origin, and I always credit Groucho. I just didn't think a whole lot of people besides me quoted it very often. Here's another: "I just shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas, I'll never know." 1
ttribe Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Ah... yes it will. So Jackass ok, *** not ok (even if intended as the animal). ****ens bad... what about bene****? Sorry... I'll really stop it now. I was in London about 4 weeks ago. My first trip over. Absolutely loved it. Would go back in a heartbeat.

rockpond Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 #4 maybe but the rest is IMO about content and presentation of questionable material.Except no "anti" content or questionable material has been presented on this thread.
Buckeye Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Hmmm... interesting. Maybe it isn't so bad over here either. So if I say "***" will the board moderate that too? (Just testing) Sorry... random tangent. Here's a few others you can't say: ****************** ******************!***************** 4

At my age it's nice to be anywhere.”
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Not every ex mormon is anti. I am hoping that someday people will understand that. Anti this and anti that. I have fellow ex-mormons that I don't agree with so surely we don't not all think the same. Everyone has a right to believe what they want but lumping ANY group is not such a good idea,.Well, I've noticed one of the ways to spot an anti-Mormon is if he denies that there is any such thing as an anti-Mormon (see my sig line, the part in green type). Bobbieaware Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) So, I can put in you the "John is evil" category? Just making hasty judgements based on his defenders. Frankly, I know nothing about the man. Edited August 3, 2015 by Bobbieaware

She didn't say there was no such thing as an anti-Mormon. She said not every "ex-Mormon" is anti. There's a rather large difference. 2

DBMormon Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Bob Crockett, on 03 Aug 2015 - 4:30 PM, said:Aw, don't pick on Bill. He's got a hobby he enjoys. So far he says he has had the endorsement of stake presidents and general authorities. That was John Dehlin's claim too, wasn't it? Actually I have had an apostle say early on that I was doing a great work. What he would think today.... who knows. And yes I have had numerous stake presidents, Bishops, and even 1 mission president say They enjoyed the podcast and felt I was doing a good work. I have not had anyone said they have left because of what I say though 2-3 people have said I am too negative for their taste. Edited August 3, 2015 by DBMormon 2
Scott Lloyd Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It just makes it easier if they are close to the line. And anti-Mormons don't have to agree with each other to be anti-Mormons. 1
