Being able to recognize when someone is struggling through that process is an exercise in empathy.If members can't empathize, there are plenty of exmos and anti-Mormons who will.

Some people who claim to still be struggling through the process have already made up their minds by the time they say anything about it, and nothing, no mater how reasonable, is going to dissuade them. Well, I'm not going to attempt to challenge your right to personal revelation as a matter of discernment, nor your practiced skill in that area as it relates to other people.
