Kate Kelly Now Encouraging Others To Leave The Lds Church

Actually, I sympathize with anyone who does not get a voice ...hers..yours..mine.. But those who respond with great disdain are just walking in the same shoes and I thought Mormons were more about example. See, I wish we could just leave everybody alone..

I think that's a good thing to sympathize for but with Kate Kelly it's misplaced. She has a very loud voice and always has from what I gather from earlier interviews of how she handled disagreement on her mission and such.

Also I can't help but notice she has more of a voice than I do. All I can do is speak to my acquaintances and occasionally post on here. She says something and has the media sharing it throughout the world

Personally I find it fascinating to see how she progresses but I pray she evntuwlly returns to the fold.

I just hope she finds peace and happiness.

My problem with Kelly is she wanted to be listened to but imo consistently demonstrated that she didn't want to put as much effort, if any, into listening to others.

For this life that's certainly possible, but eternal peace and happiness??????

My lovely LDS wife keeps telling me that God works through people in and out of the church, and if they fulfill His will for them, they'll be fine in the eternities.

Smart wife.

So, the consensus is that she's a bad seed.

She is going down a dark path, and perhaps worse, she is encouraging others to follow her down it.

I think that's the consensus.

Thanks,

It's been three weeks since I've been on this board and the first thing I run into on my return is ANOTHER smac97 thread about my dearest Kate.  Some things NEVER change.

As for the rest, ONE woman says that she no longer finds joy in the Church and encourages others to pursue their own joy, even if it is outside of the Church.  What kind of monster would say such a thing?  Oh, I don't know.  Every single living person on the planet earth except for JWs and 40% of Mormons.

And as I read it, her comments were not specifically related to Mormonism.  I strongly suspect that she would issue the same advice to a Buddhist, Muslim or even a life-long subscriber to People Magazine.  When it stops working for you, stop working for it.  So why do some of you take these statements so personally?  As my wife tells me often, "It really isn't about you.  It never was about you."

Is that a good or a bad thing?

It seems like there MAY be an issue of gender at play here.  For example, Denver Snuffer and Rock Waterman are still at it with their apostasy.  Snuffer is out there dunking people like it was a summer pool party and he can't get a mention on this board.  Rock Waterman is still writing blog posts that reach thousands each week and he can't get any MD love either.  But SISTER Kelly gets the most heavily-trafficked threads on this board on a consistent basis.  What is it about HER that wilts the carrots in so many poster's Jell-O?  Is it the cogency of her arguments?  The effectiveness of her actions?  Or is it POSSIBLY that a mere woman (I know, I cringed when I typed the word myself) has the temerity to challenge the MEN that run this Church?

Maybe to draw people to God but if God is using people to draw them to the Church and using people to draw others away, God has some serious issues he needs to work out.

Only if we assume God wants everyone in the church.

I wasn't addressing the kate issue but how apostates can be so hateful toward the organization that they once loved and bore testimony over. The MO has not changed since the church began. Some of the biggest haters have been former members throughout church history.

I wonder if Kate Kelly would seriously like the Church if it just caved in to dissent from people who want to mold the church into their liking.  Where would the nonsense stop if OW got its way?  What would stop a group of members to advocate "ordain cats"?  Would she like the Church to give in to that group and have cats ordained as well?  I don't think she would but they just would be using her example but just a different cause.

Okay, so members shouldn't dissent and try to "mold the Church in their own image."  I don't agree, but I can see the problems with this approach.  But then, they shouldn't just leave either.  They should stay and just suffer?

Are Snuffer and Waterman being published in news articles?  If not, their reach is limited.  I can see why Smac is more concerned with Kelly because her impact is probably larger, especially given the frequent reporting of her opinions in the SL Trib which many LDS read in my experience.

I like the Trib simply for its comment section.  I used to like KSL better but then they heavily moderated their comment board section and it is now just not fun.

"Kate Kelly" "mormon" brings up over 40,000 hits on google.  "Denver Snuffer" "mormon" almost 10,000, "Rock Waterman" "mormon" under 7,000 hits.

This must be because Kelly is a woman, right?  Why else would google be getting more hits for her than the other two?

It's got nothing to do with that. Hers was a more high profile case with lots more news coverage and negative publicity generated against the Church. Also, she seems to appear in more post-excommunication news stories than the others.

We just had a Waterman thread a couple days ago. Waterman even posted a few times.

Sniffer has also been discussed. The only reason I even know about Snuffer is because of this board.

I'm guess SISTER Kelly gets mentioned so much because she's in the news way more. I don't think Waterman or Snuffer have been in the news nearly as much.

If we compare rate of mention on the board with rate of showing up in national news I bet that Kate and the other two are talked about pretty equal to their general public notoriety.

If you had been posting here longer or were involved with previous message boards some of us hung out on, you would know that Smac has at times become interested in certain events and people having to do dissent against the LDS Church.  IIRC, Kelly is the first woman I can remember him posting multiple threads about.

Given that she is the first Mormon feminist who has had any impact in the Internet age, I would suspect that you are 100% correct.  And since women inside the Church don't really count (Quick: Someone name the Second Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency ... don't worry, I'll wait), there would be no other woman for him to start a thread about.  Notwithstanding, starting up to 10 threads about a single person MIGHT indicate a particular, shall we say, strong interest in Ms. Kelly.

I am not saying he is not interested in Kelly.  But can you imagine another reason he might be interested besides her being a woman?

Have you even bothered to look up his history of topics he has started?

PS:  as far as I can tell, Smac has started 5 threads total about Kelly.

A LDS woman Smac started a thread about (hint: her name does not include "Kelly"):
