What Is Your Favorite Prophet Experience

Over the years I have met several of the Apostles some who seemed tired, cranky and in a hurry to catch a flight home.  Some who took their time and seemed to relish shaking hands with the members and some in between.  All whose messages were timely and heartfelt.

Even insignificant ones count.

The only LDS prophet I ever saw in person was Spencer W. Kimball.  I was 8 or 9, living with my family in Renton, Washington.  It would have been the late 1970's (yes, I'm getting old).  I don't recall if it was part of a regional conference or a special event, but there were a lot of people there and it was a *really* big deal at the time.  Of him, I recall he looked physically small compared to others around him and his ears were somewhat distinctive.  "We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet" was sung with memorable enthusiasm.

I recall too feeling *very* guilty there, as some time before the big event I had been at the home of one of my elementary school friends and he had poured out a small amount from an opened bottle of wine and I had stuck my finger in it and had a taste.  I knew it was against the "Word of Wisdom."  I knew I'd made myself "unworthy."  And it dampened my enthusiasm for being there considerably.

As a side note, I have to smile every time I see Cinepro's avatar on the forum.  He took an image of Spence W. Kimball and substituted Yoda's head.  Not very reverent of him, but with the ears--it quite works.  You can easily find the original on Google images and the suit with the chair and the wood panel backdrop are identical.  Maybe everyone already knows this...

Or maybe George Lucas was just "irreverent"" toward Albert Einstein: http://mormonmonsters.blogspot.com/2009/09/yoda-modeled-after-mormon-prophet.html

How can he read the teleprompter so well, if he's mostly blind? To me he seems so chipper and doesn't seem to be going down hill much. Just my observations. Freedom, I failed to notice you were female, always thought you were male.

When he attended the youth celebration event for the dedication of the Vancouver Temple in 2010, he rambled and repeated himself. Because he wasn't scripted, his talk was confused and difficult to follow. When he speaks at conference, it is as if the windows of heaven open for him. For those people who know him well, they can testify that it is a miracle when ever he talks at conference. It is not humanly possible for a man of his age and physical condition to endure 10 hours of conference and the hours of other very involved meetings. Angles are holding him up.

And a muy macho one at that.

Talk about dementia, I foresee it coming soon for me, where are those angels when you need them!

Getting ready to talk to us when nobody else can or will.
