Did president Monson not address the opening of conference or did I miss it?

He did not address the opening session...

It was announced yesterday that he would only talk at priesthood and sunday AM   (I think the practice of opening and closing prophet talks was started in Pres. Hinckley's time.)

I thought Pres. Monson did amazingly well despite some saying he's got dementia. Every conference lately, he always surprises me. The only thing different basically was he looked much older, but still seems to know what's going on.

He is very old and frail. The fact that he is able to sit through all 5 sessions and give lucid talks is a testimony that he is a prophet of God.

In Priesthood tonight I thought he looked stronger then he did last Conference although I suppose it is possible he cut his talk short. The session ended ten minutes early.

He did not cut his talk short. He gave his prepared text.

So, if one of the ladies whom spoke sat through the  relief society session and the other sessions as well, would she be a prophetess of God?

I was thinking the same sort of thing. My grandma is 106 (107 later this month) and is exceptionally lucid and spry. She dresses herself every day, she write letters (actually hand writes them), know all her great- and great-great-grandchildren's names, etc. I have no doubt she could sit through every session of conference. Does that make her a prophetess?

Likewise, Presidents Kimball and Benson were not able to attend multiple conferences (and I use them because they are within my church membership time, there have been others, notably Pres. McKay) and did not speak at all in conferences for periods of years. If Pres. Monson being able to attend and speak at his advanced age is a testament of him being a prophet, were they not prophets because they couldn't attend at speak at even younger ages?

I'm not dissing any of these guys, I sustain(ed) them all as prophets (except Grandma). I was amazed at Pres. HInckley and I am amazed at Pres. Monson, and I really enjoyed his priesthood session talk. That's not a testament to me either way that any of them were or weren't prophets.

Thats probably because he does not have dementia. It is a nasty and vile rumor started by nasty and vile people.

Trust me. I KNOW the rumor is false.

Did it diminish your faith when President's Kimball and Benson were unable to attend all the sessions of conference?  I think it's great the President Monson was able to attend conference, but it just seems kind of odd to tie the likelihood that someone is or isn't a "prophet" to whether or not they're able to attend conference.

He also did not give any closing remarks at the end of the afternoon Sunday session. He does look older and thinner and his speech seems slightly slurred but his mind is still 100%.

Drove my neighbor to a dr's appt today, we discussed conference and I mentioned how well Pres. Monson did and how I didn't believe the rumors that he has dementia. She said she didn't think a prophet could get dementia when he is the Lord's mouthpiece. I guess this might be a common belief, though I don't know how since Pre. Benson I thought had it and Pres. Kimball possibly. Or perhaps that's why we have counselors and the Quorum of the Twelve.

Prophets are subject to the same mental and physical maladies that plaque any other person as they age. God does not take over their brain or body and keep them going longer than they normally would, although He might at times intercede if there is something important they still need to do. Conselors can and do take over church leadership roles as necessary.

ERayR,

Thank you so much for pointing this out.  I will devote special time over the next several weeks to perfecting my articulation skills.  Maybe you were offended because you thought the same thing.  Surely if a man were able to sit though all of those meetings at that age, he MUST be  a prophet.  I think I would search deeper for qualifying factors.
