Freedom Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Teddyaware so the meat we find in the Book of Mormon all agree with Creeds and the mythical missing part has the Mormon part doesn't say much for the BOMThey are three separate people that constitute one god, or as the creeds explain it, one godhead: "For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Ghost is all one" Where you get lost is in thinking that they are all one person. Even the creeds agree that they are three separate individuals united in purpose. I have no idea what you are referring to by the mythical missing part. 1
Anakin7 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Freedom our non LDS Christians friends/critics believe there are 3 seperate "persons" who are 1 "God" they do not believe that the Father/Son/Holy Spirit Are/Is one "Person". In His Debt/Grace Anakin7

Anakin7 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) The 3 "Persons" Is/Are The 1 True God according to non LDS Christianity [ 1 What = God and 3 Who's = Father Son Holy Ghost/Spirit ]. And when they use the term 'Being" it means essence/nature = what a thing is. Maybe that helps. In His Debt/Grace Anakin7 Edited January 22, 2015 by Anakin7

In His Debt/Grace Anakin7 But when you get right down to it, they are actually trying to have it both ways. The way they try to get away with having it both ways is by declaring the whole thing to be a mystery. Because the unity of the three individual personages of the Godhead is declared by them to be an unsolvable, incomprehensible mystery, there is no sense debating with them because they cannot define nor understandably explain their own terms. For all the Trinitarians know, it could turn out (oh the horror of it) that we're the ones who got it right! They'll never know until the mystery is revealed (if it ever is revealed), so why argue over something they cannot understand. And you know what they say about arguing with someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. Edited January 22, 2015 by teddyaware

Freedom Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Okay lets try this to clarify http://comparing-views.com/book/c02.htm In His Debt/Grace Anakin7 Sorry nothing on link.I think you are missing my point. I fully understand what catholics and protestants believe about the trinity. It is the posters here who are redefining it at every step in an attempt to attach lds beliefs. It is these redefinitions that I am responding to.
Anakin7 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Yes they redefine as they redefine our True Concept/Form/Model of God. But in there minds they are defining the Trinity [ which concept/form/model ?] correctly. In His Debt/Grace Anakin7
HOLY CATHOLIC Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Anakin has it right ONE GOD 3 who's Father SON and HOLY GHOSTS make up the ONE GODHEAD . Within the Nature of the ONE GODHEAD are three separate persons is the Catholic and Protestant position and the Creeds and the BOOK OF Mormon along with the Bible. Not three gods like Mormonism teaches

And why on earth do we care what other religions think about ours?As for the claim that the Bible and the Book of Mormon teach the trinity - nonsense. Just a misinterpretation of scripture. In all humility, may I dare to partially correct you? These folks, by their own admission, don't understand what the Trinity is, so they're really not teaching anybody anything, just admitting they don't understand it -- and how can someone teach that which they do not at all understand? Rather than teaching anyone about the true nature of the Trinity, they merely beckon others to join with them and rejoice in something they gladly admit they do not understand. Until the Trinitarians can actually explain what the Trinity is, there is no common ground for reasoned debate. Since they don't know how there can be three personages, yet one God, for all they know we're the ones who have it right. So why should allow ourselves to get swept up in an endless debate over what they consider to be the unknowable? Why wrestle with phantoms? Edited January 22, 2015 by teddyaware 1

Good point, the earliest definition of the trinity dates to the year 444 AD Sechnall of Ireland "the Trinity of the sacred Name and teaches one being in three persons" (Hymn in Praise of St. Patrick 22 [A.D. 444]).http://www.catholic.com/tracts/the-trinity Edited January 22, 2015 by MormonFreeThinker
