General Conference Talks In Non-English Languages!

I don't know if I missed any yesterday (was dealing with car troubles), but I see that two General Authorities are giving their talks in their native tongues!  Portuguese and Spanish!  As I type this, the Spanish-speaker has not yet spoken.  The Portuguese speaker was Elder Carlos A. Godoy.

Wasn't there some discussion about this here in this forum over the last few months?  Does this mean that the General Authorities are monitoring what we discuss here, and using our good ideas?

I would have preferred subtitles, as I would like to become more familiar with Spanish (or Portuguese).

But that is sooooo cool!  I wonder if President Uchtdorf would give one of his talks in German?  Probably not

The First one was in Cantonese on Saturday morning, by Elder Chi Hong Wong.  And Elder Eduardo Gavarret spoke in Spanish on Saturday afternoon.  President Uchtdorf joked that he would sound like he was speaking in german when he spoke at the end of the Saturday am session.

Personally, I prefer the interpreter voice over as I have trouble reading subtitles, especially when I'm trying to take notes.

Darn, missed most of the Saturday AM session, and all of PM and Priesthood.  First time this has happened in years.

Me too, Sheila... the first one was a little difficult because the voice over and spoken word were "fighting."  But I noticed they figured that out and today's speaker/voice overs were better modulated and thus clearer.

I really enjoyed this.  The speakers were so much more relaxed in their native language, instead of struggling with English.  I got alot more out of their talks.

I guess I would turn off whenever I heard these talks in the past.  Wonderful!  Inspiring!

What do the saints who normally listen to the talk in Spanish hear?  Since I had to learn Spanish for my mission, I would have appreciated not having the interpreter voice drown out the speakers voice.  I wonder if there is an application for that.

You can choose the language to listen to on the conference site but it takes longer for nonEnglish languages to show up.

Here is español, some of the talks are already up:  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/sessions/2014/10?lang=spa

In the example I heard, they get the first few words spoken and then the translator kicks in with a complete silencing of the English.

I think they should play the talk as spoken and use subtitles.

Too funny.  I just noticed for Spanish, instead of saying "read" it says "leer".

I guess it has been too long since I took my Spanish classes (35 years)
