Do You Think You Will Be Exalted One Day?

So what gets us exalted? Just the atonement? Don't our works count for a lot and what ordinances we've had done in the temple?

The purpose of our works is not to "save ourselves," but, rather, to show gratitude for what does save us: The Atonement.  By doing those works, while we don't save or exalt ourselves (Christ's sacrifice already did that), we become the kind of people who can abide a Celestial Glory.  See Brad Wilcox's The Continuous Atonement.

Does taking the sacrament really take away the sins?

When it's done with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, and in a spirit of gratitude for Christ's Atonement, I believe it does. :)

Just for the record, I agree 100% with your post, AND this point.  WE can personally know this by the Holy Spirit of Promise.

 

But if that was revealed to me, the last thing I would do is go on the internet and brag about it.

 

That is all I was ever saying.

I have a goal of getting closer to the Celestial Kingdom everyday, but I wish the general authorities would talk more about the 3 different levels of the Celestial Kingdom, like who goes where.

 

We do have Scriptures that gives a pretty good description of them. I like to compare them to a Church Temple. The Telestial Kingdom is like a very beautiful room grand beyond anything we can imagine. The Terrestrial Kingdom is like an even more beautiful room. So beautiful it makes us want to cry. The Celestial Kingdom is like a foyer that opens out onto everything. I want the foyer.

A foyer that leads to what?  To being Gods and Goddesses?  I heard this today by an Athiest, discussing on a podcast that the Mormon God would know all things right?  But would be a physical God with several offspring and wives/wife, wouldn't that be like hell.  If you stopped progressing?  You knew what each child would be doing, thinking and on and on.

 

So TSS, what is beyond the Foyer, in your mind?  Or if that is too personal, what has the church or prophets said about it.  Because gold roads and mansions don't do it for me.

Everything. To become like him, to have the power and knowledge of God. To work for the immortality and eternal life of mankind.

 

I don't believe that going to an Atheist is the best place to understand LDS Theology. But maybe that is just me.

 

Why would having a perfect, glorified, physical body that allows us to help in the bringing to pass the immortality and eternal ife on mankind be a hell?

 

LDS Theology is one of Eternal Progression.

 

As a mere mortal while I had/have a pretty good idea as to what my children would do, and think. It was/is very rewarding to see them develop into the very good men they are with families of their own.

Why would you stop progressing?  Is it not progression to bring order out of chaos?

I think you need to know that your heavenly Father will do everything he can to come and get you and bring you home.  I think you need to know that he will not rest until you are home.  Heavenly Father would mourn if he never saw you again.

 

You can't mess up an entire eternity with even the worst of mortal actions that are in the past and that are subject to repentance.  If you are repenting and struggling and doing your best every day, God will continue to be with you and lead you and redeem you; and you and God will meet again some day.

 

What you have the opportunity to become is a person of love and justice and when you reach the fulness of these (in whatever lifetime that takes place), then you will be like God (a God) and that can be termed exaltation.

 

I have no fear for any future of mine (and there is only now! lol).  Because I know that God is my rearward and forward.  He wants to be there.  He wants to be with me.  So he does stay with me!  What other kind of exaltation do I want?  I know that I will be with my Savior forever, not because of who I am, but because I understand what kind of person He is.

 

I have passed through hell already.  I, too, believed at that time that I had gone past the point of return for being found, rescued, loved, made new.

 

I was wrong about that and I have been raised from the dead.  If God can handle that person I was and still stay with me and still trust me and still work with me--then I'm fine.  I'll be fine. 

 

You will too.

 

 Just keep working to become like your heavenly Father.  How you can help out other people, who need you.

I assume every GA will be exalted.

There are unfortunately GAs who have been excommunicated, so I would not assume that all GAs are guaranteed exaltation.

Which GAs were excommunicated?

 

A large majority of the first 12 Apostles called in Kirtland left or were removed for denying Joseph Smith's authority, including his brother William.   Richard R. Lyman,  John W. Taylor, Matthias Cowley, and possibly Alfred Carrington, and more recently Elder George P. Lee of the Seventy all over polygamy or adultery disguised as polygamy.

Amasa Lyman and Lyman Wight for refusing to follow counsel.

There have been quite a few.

I would not assume that excommunication necessarily means a loss of exaltation.

God is the one whom gets to judge, but it does make it harder to achieve exaltation.

Alma 41 states that we will judge too.

 

Priesthood leaders will also get to judge for their specific generations.

I Nephi 12:9-10 - 12 Apostles to judge Israel, 12 Nephite Apostles to judge Nephites/Lamanites etc.

JOD 7:288-9 - Dispensation heads to judge their dispensations (including Joseph Smith)

"...namely, that no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are—I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent." - Brigham Young

 

From Gospel Principles - http://www.lds.org/manual/gospel-principles/chapter-46-the-final-judgment

"The Apostle John taught that “the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” (John 5:22). The Son, in turn, will call upon others to assist in the Judgment. The Twelve who were with Him in His ministry will judge the twelve tribes of Israel (see Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30). The twelve Nephite disciples will judge the Nephite and Lamanite people (see 1 Nephi 12:9–10; Mormon 3:18–19)."

 

So in theory, based on this information, the prophets and the apostles do have some say over our exaltation, just as they do in this life over our temple worthiness.

How do you know, TSS? (Sincere question.)

 

I'm thinking it's entirely possible that there may be some publicans and harlots who get to heaven before me, despite my efforts and faithful church membership. I don't know why the same can't hold true for excommunicated GAs.
