David T Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) I know several temples are rolling out a brand new English language Temple Endowment film today (first in over 20 years!) that is reportedly 12-or-so minutes longer to better accommodate translation issues.Obviously not asking for details, but perhaps, for convenience for interested parties, anyone here who can report if they know for certain their Temple has implemented the updated presentation, to perhaps give an incentive to those who may not have gone for a while.Reportedly, it is in locations that have just finished Summer Maintenance. I understand California and Arizona temples have been confirmed. I believe Atlanta is as well (just finished maintenance and re-opened today). I have been planning on attending on Thursday.Anyone going (or already attended) today? Edited July 30, 2013 by David T
Questing Beast Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I've been wondering for years when the films were going to get replaced. Back in c. 90 or thereabouts, we went as usual to the Jordan River temple, and it was a zoo. Waiting to get into a session was at least two hours, with lines of white robed people standing packed in the halls. I was amused and annoyed to learn that the throng was there to see the new temple films. I hadn't had a clue. So I suspect that once again the temples will experience a c. two week spike in attendance. Sensationalism, that's the key, make the temple more sensational and attendance will go up dramatically. But the cost!? Oh, forget about the cost, just do it....
Kenngo1969 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 'Course, for those few who are fortunate enough to see it performed live, it's diffurnt every time! (Any professional actor could do it with no sweat, but seeing geezers do it ... now that's an experience! ) 1
David T Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) I love the live presentation. I do think something is lost when the symbols are illustrated from someone else's perspective in filmed narrative, even though I understand the value of a filmed presentation. It seems some of the personal interpretive power is diminished a bit - you arrive with the canvas already painted in from a particular artist's point of view. With that said, I have heard whispers that additional films are in (or have been in) production, and think it would be awesome if some of those are produced and performed in some of the other large language-bases of the Church. IE, how awesome to have a Spanish language version performed by hispanics, etc. Edited July 30, 2013 by David T
Duncan Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) if they put Kirby heybourne or Alex Boye in any new video I'm writing a letter in protest, other then that then heavens to Murgatroyd bombs away! Edited July 30, 2013 by Duncan 2
BlueDreams Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 if they put Kirby heybourne or Alex Boye in any new video I'm writing a letter in protest, other then that then heavens to Murgatroyd bombs away!I don't think I could take anything in the endowment session seriously with kirby in it. Kirby as adam, it would be a miracle they didn't fall faster. But Boye.....that would be funny. What if he played satan and just broke into song when tempting eve...that could so be beguiling right . the provo temple is still closed, so i can't do anything on that note. The other 2 temples I've gone to for endowments haven't had any change or summer closing. So no luck for at least 2-3 weeks. With luv, BD 1

Traela Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Unfortunately, those extra 12 minutes will be a logistical problem, at least for Idaho Falls. With the necessity of moving from room to room, it may end up that we can no longer start each session neatly on the hour.
Hamba Tuhan Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Our temple had its maintenance closing a couple of months ago. I noticed afterward that the screen had been significantly widened, taking it from a formerly standard 4:3 TV aspect to widescreen, and that the film had moved to widescreen as well. Maybe the roll-out (assuming this is more than a rumour) is following maintenance closings for this reason? I went to the temple last weekend, and the next time I head there (600 km return) will be in August for a youth temple trip, so it may be a while before I know anything in these parts.
Blah Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I can confirm that the Houston Texas Temple has it. The extra 12 minutes is causing problems. Sessions now have to start exactly on the hour and too many people have gotten used to having the workers hold the session for 5-10 minutes to accommodate the latecomers. Evidently, showing up before 4:57 to go on the 5:00 session is just too hard for some people (and waiting for the 6:00 is just unreasonable).
Gohan Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 They've got it up here in Rexburg. Good reports from my roommates on it, I'm hoping to go through for a session later this week.
Popular Post halconero Posted July 31, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 31, 2013 This reminds me of a time my companion and I were going to the temple with the mission president and wife to pray about transfers. We're sitting there talking about what everyone would look like in their temple stuff if they added 3D glasses.Suddenly Sister Taylor jumps in and says "Guys, we're taking about the temple here...maybe we shouldn't laugh so much."Immediately we sober up and the car gets super quiet. After about 10 seconds of awkward silence my mission president reaches towards the window and says "and then the fruit came right out of the screen like this!!!!" 9

amag Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The new video presentation is 12 minutes longer than the old version. It is in HD, but currently does not have any other language options available. So, if you intend to go to a session to see the new version, do not go to a session scheduled for a foreign language and hope that the session you are attending does not have someone that needs a headset to hear the audio in their native tongue otherwise you will see the old version. They are working on the translations for all of the different languages the video will serve, but currently it is available only in English. That being said, I've seen the new version already, it is very well done. The acting is much better, the cinematography and CGI are excellent. Even though it is 12 minutes longer, it didn't feel like it. There did not seem to be any change to the dialog that I could detect. 3
cinepro Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Rottentomatoes has it "Certified Fresh", so it must be good. 1

They plan on having the patrons wait in a Sealing room until the Creation Room empties out...or they will have to push back the later Endowment Session further into the evening.
cdowis Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Interesting. The Atlanta temple has Spanish sessions scheduled for two specific sessions per month so it will be interesting to see how they will handle it.

Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) What? They added 12 mins. THat is it I am out of the church. It clearly is false. Edited July 31, 2013 by Mola Ram Suda Ram

I know at our Temple, we were in the process of going to three ordinance worker shifts per day, up from two shifts per day. We weren't going to implement that until this November, but due to the information our Temple Presidency received about six weeks ago, they decided to move up the time table of the three shift implementation to July 30th, coinciding with the release of the new video. We used to have one hour and 15 minutes between sessions, we now have one hour and 30 minutes between sessions.
Stone holm Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 if they put Boye as the Devil now that I would see!Jack Nicholson would be preferrable.
