GingerRed Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I work at a family practice clinic where we do missionary physicals on a regular basis. Since that announcement, we've already seen a jump in more physicals for 19 year and 20 year old women and 18 year old men! It's awesome! 1

BYUand UVU are anticipating a drop in enrolment next year of significant amounts. There are a lot of earnest young men and women out there. I guess Rexburg and Hawaii may be impacted as well. mapman Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I can report that here at BYU there has definitely been an increase in people planning to leave on missionaries after this semester. My ward's mission prep class went from about 10 guys to about 3 times that with half of the people women. Everyone's very excited!

Most of those are coming from North America and will stay in North America. It's interesting though that 80% of baptisms come from outside of North America. Also that the 18 year olds that previously were in the field that this whole thing is being based on were coming from areas where the Church is in a minority position. I think they would have a maturity about life and the Church I hope that the 18 yr olds from North America are as mature

The impact of the additional funds that will be needed to support such a greatly expanded missionary force will likely be mitigated by investment income. Of course, that is speculation on my part because I don't know how much money flows from the for-profit activities of the Church to the non-profit activities . . . nor do I care.

I always find those who criticize the church for making money on their investments ridiculous.Clearly the church should invest in things which give the lowest possible return just to make the critics happy. Probably CD's at 1 percent would make them happy. Absurd. 1

She's a frosh at USU.

BCSpace Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Thinking about some recent engagements announced in my locality with the girls just out of high school and the guys about three or so years older, I can't help but wonder if the reduced age restriction is going to result in an increase of marriages. For example, a young man might be thinking 'I'd better ask her now lest she go on a mission and I lose her forever". A returned missionary might also think a younger just out of high school girl might be in more of a marrying mood as she faces the decision as to whether or not to serve a mission.
