its harder to get a fake ID than it is to use someones temple recommend.

If you are among those who have money left over at the end of the month, it is easier to obtain fake ID than you might think. Some States' ID also are easier to fake than others.

Because that would be discriminatory.

=@

I don't think so. On what grounds? I didnt' say it had to be a state or governement id. A library card or school id should work fine, as long as it was a photo id to match the name on the recommend.

It was a wry, joking, political, side reference to the DNC's claim that asking for voter's ID before permitting the voter to vote is discriminatory. He was connecting that to the temple. It was humor.

It's OK, though. It takes a little while for some people to get used to cinepro's sense of humor.

I got the connection, was trying to ignore it since I actually agree with the DNC, I thought he might actually be serious in some way in this instance.

That seems inconsistent. You think it is OK to ask for ID in the Temple but not for voting? That one is discriminatory but the other would not be? Please clarify without making the thread into a political thread.

because the temple photo id wouldn't necessarily have to be a government issued paid for ID. As I stated it could be a library card or a student ID as long as there was some sort of resemblance to the person trying to use it and the name on the recommend match. It wouldn't SOLVE the problem of course, people are stupid, they'll do anything, but it certainly would make them jump through one more hoop to try to be dishonest.

I'm not going to say anything else because it would be political and would risk shutting the thread down.

If you're going to allow a library card then it has two negatives: it makes the temple seem like more of a fortress (I don't like that perception) and it's easily forged. If someone wants to do this they can buy a fake I'd easily. Kids at school have them to buy beer. It won't stop someone like NNN.

On this topic, I've no concern. Let the voyeurs watch. The quicker we realise the temple is a living parable, the more we'll emmerse ourselves in the symbolism. No-one takes the widows mite literally, or the sower, or the talents.

When we see the whole experience as a parable and stop trying to understand it as a literal history or preparation for an actual future event we will become a lot more comfortable with the curious finding out what happens.

Most of the church membership who've gone a few times have little idea what it means, we shouldn't worry that others will see it as it's going to be meaningless. Like hiding our pearls, the endowment is the best coded parable written. It protects the ignorant and educates the open mind.

As the gospel study guide says:

A simple story used to illustrate and teach a spiritual truth or principle. A parable is based on comparing an ordinary object or event to a truth, and the underlying meaning or message of a parable is often hidden to listeners who are not spiritually prepared to receive it

Years ago when Mitt Romney was running, Mike Norton was asking for people's recommends on message boards and really hoping to record the whole ceremony. He thought with Mitt running, it would create a lot of publicity for the video.

Many things can serve as ID. In fact, for the other purpose mentioned other things besides paid-for, State ID, can suffice. In some States a couple utility bills or a library card can suffice, where such things can be asked. Personally, I like the idea of being able to prove who you are to vote. If even one dead person votes that is too many. What is good in one scenario should be just as valid as the other scenario. If it is not discriminatory in one scenario how could it be argued that it is discriminatory in another like circumstance?

But, as I mentioned above, using ID for the temple would be a waste of time since people can fake ID and those who are willing to use borrowed temple recommends are the kind of people who would use fake ID if that were required to fulfill the intent of deception so as to enter a temple under false pretense.

I also remember the temple recommends that were being sold on eBay.

What should you do if you suspect someone is up to funny business at the Temple? Tell someone? Say something to the person?

I'm sure these interlopers will receive a just reward.Unfortunately it will probably not be ...shingles...or piles... or necrotizing fasciitis. Good thing I'm not in charge.

I don't get how having photo ID on your Temple Recommend is connected to voting

It is the principle of the thing. If it is discriminatory for one then it is for the other. If it is not for one then it is not for the other. But, for the purposes of this thread it became connected by a bit of wry humor on the part of cinepro. That's all. Nothing to see here. Move along...

so there isn't any part of the recommend that is connected to voting!

I would mention it to one of the Temple workers before the ceremony begins. There should also be some training to recognize such recording devices. They are easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. Then the offending person can be escorted out by Church Security before getting under way.

Just because some unwise souls may choose to desecrate the temple experience does not make it any less sacred or significant. It is God's holy work and will not be thwarted.

And it's certainly nothing new that anybody can find out about what happens inside the temple with the click of a mouse. But we can't let that detract us. Everybody will find out about the temple for themselves in the Lord's own due time.

I had a thread about this before. The complete temple ceremony on youtube. I think that we need to understand that this is only the beginning of the attacks against the lds church. The forces of darkness seem to be working overtime in attemtpting to undermine the lds church.

Tell the temple people. But one must make sure that one is correct. However, such equipment is becoming very sophisticated. Hard to find the people responsible for taping when they are doing it. It takes an eagle eye these days.

The attacks began almost before the Church did. The level of attacks waxes and wanes over time, so far little recently comes close to what early members had to endure. We should be grateful when attacks are limited to verbal ones (though we need to still be concerned for multiple reasons including misinformation misleading people about our beliefs and behaviour as well as potential for actual violence if lesser attacks are not challenged).
