Bill “Papa” Lee Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Elder Lee is in the Hospital in California with a serious infection. His Bishop and Mission President called at 1:30 this morning to tell us what was going on. It was all we could do not to hop on a plane and go see him.Pray for a quick recovery, Caleb is scared. We are scared.
bluebell Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 He's in my prayers. It must be so difficult to be so far away from him at such a time.

We are scared.I'm saying a prayer for your son. I know firsthand how scary it is to have a child get seriously ill while serving a mission. Believe it or not, you are actually fortunate the mission president called you. I got no such courtesy from my son's mission president (grrrrrr...)

mtomm Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 As a missionary mom you have my sincere thoughts and prayers.
katherine the great Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Which mission in Calfornia? I live in SoCal and if its close....IIRC, it's somewhere near Sacramento. Definitely No. Cal.

Bill “Papa” Lee Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Prayers are up, how is your son doing?Very sick...
BookofMormonLuvr Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I had an intestinal infection towards the end of my mission in Argentina. It wasn't a pleasant experience- the public hospital wanted to remove my appendix, but my mission prez. was inspired to have them get me a 2nd opinion at a private clinic. Thank you, Pres. Huerta!
Avatar4321 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I became ill on my mission and was sent home after not being able to keep food or water down for two weeks straight and losing 20lbs. It's not something id wish on anyone.

Missions are hard enough when you have something to do. I am going to have the mission President have him call. This why I can read his voice. Edited September 9, 2011 by Bill “Papa” Lee
Garden Girl Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Pa Pa...Try and be of good heart... a multitude of prayers going forward for Caleb...A widowed father in my ward experienced a similar problem as you... his missionary son was in a south American country and contracted some type of intestinal bug and became very ill. His father felt helpless because of the distance, but was able to be in regular touch with the mission pres and hospital. His boy, a lanky 6'4", lost over 25 lbs. He was close to the end of his mission so they finally just sent him home. None of the docs there or here could figure out just what "bug" it was. They finally narrowed it down. It took months for him to recover, but recover he did. And last time I saw him he was starting to fill out again. So, please try and be positive that it may take time but eventually all will be well. Stand faithful for your wife as I'm sure her fears are deeper than you may realize... moms are like that and she needs to be able to lean on you.Prayers... GG
Calm Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 I don't know if moms worry more or not, but it does seem to me that dads get more frustrated when they can't do anything because of an inherent approach to problems as things to be fixed, not endured. We had to finally kick my husband off my daughter's 'diabetes team' because he just caused the two of us so much anxiety with all his bustling around, interrogation about what she was doing, etc....plus he completely lost his sense of humour which is probably the number one way he could have helped.Pa Pa, this is not something that you can fix, but it might make you feel better to find some way of being supportive that works for everyone concerned. Might take some thinking, but you could start to put together a care package if Caleb is going to be bedridden as he recovers so he doesn't suffer from boredom and keeps focused on the spirit. 1
Libs Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Prayers for your son, Papa. I know you must be worried sick.

GGHe is still sequestered in his apt and ready to get back to work. He is beginning to improve. He has the measles and it attacked his liver. The mission nurse is taking care of him right now. He has to go daily to the hospital for blood tests. We got an e-mail last night and he is feeling very sick. The nurse tells us that she has know many missionaries who were this sick crying wanting to go home, she says Caleb has never made this request.
bluebell Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 That's crazy that he got the measles even after being immunized. I'm glad he's slowly getting better.
