Garden Girl Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 My "fun" is impacted by where I live and that I live alone... small resort coastal town in Pacific Northwest... so not a lot of plays, concerts, etc. and I don't go to the casinos even for the entertainment. I enjoy the art galleries and antique shops... walking on the beach/beachcombing... watching movies (now that movies are released quickly on DVD I can usually see whatever I want fairly soon after theatre release). Drawing and painting are more than just "fun." Right now I'm working on developing some greeting cards featuring my cat, Bob, that I would like to offer online.Being retired, one would think I have all this time every day... but I don't know where the time goes. My life is literally flying by... the weeks, days, and months. Scary.from the beach on a beautiful afternoon with Fall in the air... my heart goes out to those on the east coast as they await Irene.GG 3
bluebell Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 You and my hubby would get along great ERMD.I like to go camping and hiking for fun. This summer we got to spend some time hiking in Yellowstone with my parents and our kids and had a ball.

We usually go fishing 3 or 4 times in the summer but my wife has been confined to the hospital and rehab center for over 100 days now so fishing trips went by the wayside.

I am rarely without a book or two and lately, I have been writing stories. I'd be happy to e-mail copies of the two completed, but not sufficiently revised, ones to anybody who is interested.

I am currently writing a novel that I hope will be finished after my mission. A friend and I were working on it since junior high, and he sort of gave up on it but insisted that I continue with it by myself, which I have done on and off for several years now, making very little progress. But I have much of the story in my head and I have fleshed out the depth and complexities of the characters' personalities. It's a very cool thing to see your story and characters develop almost by themselves.
Messenger Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 My true fun is shooting, target practice that sort of thing. I only get to do it about every six months though. My other hobby is photography. I have a Nikon D5000 that I have a lot of fun with and about once a month go out and photograph nature. That hobby has spun off into graphic design. I do a lot of fun things that I post on my Facebook page, my ADHDBeta website, and my Flikr page. So that's what I consider fun.

katherine the great Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Right now for fun I'm taking a couple of refresher classes at the local university while I prepare to enter graduate school. (I AM actually having fun.) Normally I ride my bike, ski, take walks, read, ride my dirtbike, watch the science and discovery channel shows, go to movies, hang out with my kids, hubby or friends, etc. for fun. I don't like activities that are excessively noisy (except for the dirtbikes.)
Duncan Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I LOVE comedy, Charlie Chaplin is my all time favourite, so to that end I watch his movies or stand up comedians-nothing vulgar, I don't like vulgarity. I enjoy genealogy, pilates, walking, taking care of my 8yr old boy. I collect stuff,bike riding, look forward to watching our new NHL team in the fall, Church activities, splits with the Elders, studying- I am a bookworm.

I like to shoot also, mostly pistols though. Mainly I just line up some cans on the side of the bank and plug away at about 25 yards. I don't use my sights much, I like to shoot instinctively. I like working on guns probably more than shooting them. My latest project was a decent knockoff of a .50 cal Hawken rifle. I picked it up for 40 skins at a pawn shop. It was in terrible shape.. stock scrapes, rusty barrel, scuffed blue and so on. Thing looks real good now. Other than a nice replica of a 1860 Colt Army, it is the only black powder gun I have. It doesn't shoot bad, but it's a mess to clean up... makes a great decorative piece for our rustic Sunroom too.I like working on things, making stuff, playing bass with my bands, water stuff, outdoorsy mountain stuff, playing with the kids, the dogs, cooking.My absolute favorite thing, is hanging out with my wife when we get a date night or something. I am a hopeless romantic that way I guess, plus we stay so busy with life, the kids, work and so on.. we don't have near enough time to stay caught up talking about our hopes, dreams, future plans and so on.

Otherwise - the beach, kids activities, watching movies (but the last one is a joke because I never stay awake long enough to see the endings.

Hope all is well.I know exactly what you mean about falling asleep and missing the end of a movie. That happens to me also and makes me so mad. If it's something I've rented, I can always go back... but if it's on TV then I get frustrated if it was something good... there's not too many movies out that are worth watching IMO. Only a few...GG

Long hair, makeup...the works. He had stayed worthy (it was just a paying job for him), but after his mission he was very popular at youth conferences where he would show videos of his band playing as the kids walked in, and then shock them by showing them which one he was. Anyhow, you should be able to buy an acoustic guitar while you're in the field (maybe pack a ukulele for the MTC?). A lot of the missionaries in our area buy guitars and learn while they're out here. Your mission rules may vary.As for what I "do for fun", I like to see old movies in old movie theaters, mountain bike and run, and I watch, coach, ref and play soccer. You can see by my avatar that I enjoy fishing. That is a little striped marlin I caught off of Cabo San Lucas. My wife and I went to Montana for our anniversary a couple of weeks ago and went fly fishing for the first time. I had always been a little intimidated by it and didn't want to look stupid, so I avoided it. We spent a couple of mornings with a guide who was an excellent teacher, and now I'm "hooked"!

Hello cinepro... I'm 71 years old now, but when I was 14 (1954) and in Jr.High my favorite sport was soccer. When I was younger... about 10... I suffered from a very serious heat stroke (while I was playing tetherball in the hot California sun). I was in and out of a coma for about a week. After that I had to sit out of sports, wear a wide brimmed hat and stay out of the sun, etc. Finally when I entered Jr. High the doc said I could resume normal activity... sports... and I went all out. And soccer was my favorite. I loved running down the field, the ball bouncing between my feet as I'd skirt around opponents, etc. I became a serious athlete, participating on all the "honor" teams... But it was soccer that was my love. Gosh, thanks, that was fun to remember...from the beach... GG 1

Problem was he was being supported by his ward. When the Mission Pres. found out he made the elder sell it and pay the money back to the ward. 1
