“Mormon” victory for Satan?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So here is a link to the England Hyde Park chapel /visitors center. Pic #2 is clearly displaying an “I’m a Mormon” campaign pic.

Serious question if this is a victory for Satan, why is the church sponsoring this? It is in the visitors center and on the church website. Does the church (prophet) really care? Surely this has been seen by at least one do-gooder and reported to salt lake.

anyone on this board make a recent visit there who can confirm if it is still up or even noticed? One would think a visitors center would have been sanitized of it years ago.

The “I am a Mormon” campaign, an advertising and outreach program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that was designed to create positive publicity for the church, was started in 2010 and ended in 2018. The “I am a Mormon” advertising blurb in the photo is a remnant of that now defunct campaign that ended 6 years ago. The photo is likely an old one that was taken during the time when the “I am a Mormon” campaign was still in operation, or it’s something that’s been hanging around that somebody forgot to take down. You can relax now.

The church still has a YouTube channel up with these ads. I’m not thinking the church is actually serious about this whole thing.

Again, these old YouTube adds were posted back in the days when the “I am a Mormon” campaign was still a thing. If you look at the dates when the videos were loaded, it will probably say 6 to 14 years ago. No need to stress out over this former publicity effort. Anyway, if these video remnants of the former program bother you that much you should contact the church headquarters and suggest take they be taken down because they’re likely unaware that these old videos are still on YouTube.

Yep.  The visitor center photos in that link date back at least to as early as June 1, 2013, according to the Wayback Machine:  https://web.archive.org/web/20130601163334/https://www.lds.org/locations/hyde-park-chapel?lang=eng#d

Really?  The amount of effort that went into rebranding all of the online resources was immense.

They don’t bother me and I am relaxed. I’m just pointing out how even the church doesnt bother to try to erase all the satanic activity it used to participate in.

I still call myself a Mormon and always describe us ( lds church members) as Mormons when we discuss this stuff at church. Only a few people squirm in their seats. Everyone else thinks it’s bs too.

If you were a good Mormon you would report it to salt lake. I’m not so I’ll leave it up to others.

I know when the videos were made. If you search the churches YouTube channel they have a whole page of them there. I didn’t count but probably hundreds if I were to guess. One would think they would scrub all their websites to make sure the devil isn’t lurking in there but one doesn’t even need to expend any effort to find them. Someone got paid too much money to go this … or they used a bunch of senior missionaries for free.

How do those videos equate to the "devil lurking there" or "satanic activity" or even a "victory for satan"?  President Nelson said:

Quote

To remove the Lord’s name from the Lord’s Church is a major victory for Satan. When we discard the Savior’s name, we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us—even His Atonement.

He didn't say that using the term "Mormon" was a victory for Satan.  He said that the removal of the Lord's name was a victory for Satan.

They are there because the Church isn't hiding her history. Also, we do not cancel Satan.

The church style guide even requests members not be called Mormons. Not just the church.. the members too

Sorry, but I had to laugh at this criticism.

Old: "The church is hiding and whitewashing and censoring it's own past!  They don't want you to see what they used to do and say!"
New: "The church isn't doing enough to hide and whitewash and censor it's own past!  They aren't doing enough to erase what they used to do and say!"

What do you suggest?   Should we go on a top-down purge of the word Mormon?  Maybe get bishops to do church discipline at anyone who uses the word in a public setting or blog?

lol.

The church’s name “is not negotiable,” said the 94-year-old who took the reins of the 16 million-member faith in January. “When the savior clearly states what the name of his church should be, and even precedes his declaration with, ‘Thus shall my church be called,' he is serious. And if we allow nicknames to be used and adopt or even sponsor those nicknames ourselves, he is offended.”

Using common nicknames such as “Mormon church,” “LDS Church” or the “Church of the Latter-day Saints,” Nelson said, “... is a major victory for Satan.”

When members “discard the savior’s name,” he said, “we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us — even his Atonement.”

Since Pres Nelson, as a member of the Q12, made similar comments about using the correct name of the church in a talk in 1990, did the other leaders of the church not recognise the truth of his statements? Whey did it take until he became Prophet in 2018 for the change to be made?

The “I am a Mormon” campaign ran from 2010 to 2018 - no-one in church leadership, having been taught by Elder Nelson's 1990 talk, thought it was a bad idea?

Or did something else happen between 1990 and 2018 that made the change necessary? Perhaps halconero is correct in thinking that the benefit started to outweigh the cost. Perhaps some straw broke the camel's back.

The “I’m a Mormon “ videos are advertisements, not teachings, doctrine etc. Nothing wrong with deleting them completely.

I use the term "Mormon" as someone under the umbrella of "Mormonism" but not an LDS member. I think once upon a time we tried working with the media to own "Mormon" as the "(Real) Mormons" and others as not real Mormons. It was effective, the media seemed to understand that when flashing "Mormon" in a headline they note in the article if they are not a Latter-Day Saint. It's now a losing battle with the media and Hollywood, they go out of their way to target us now, so now Lafferdy in Banner of Heaven isn't portrayed as an Apostate Mormon, but an OG Mormon.

Yes, but that is not the same thing as saying "mormon" equates to a victory for the devil.  When we substitute the Lord's name in His church is a "victory for the devil".  So Mormon Tabernacle isn't a victory, neither is Mormon Trail.  But, we've changed the former and not the latter. Why? Because if we want to stop the usage of "Mormon Church" (which is a victory for the devil) we need to change other names to break the connection.  Mormon Choir is an active organization tied to the church, so it was renamed. Mormon Trail is a historical thing and so left alone.

I agree.  My point, of course, is it doesn't matter what we do, critics gonna critique, often in ways that directly contradict other criticisms.   I used to hear, from critics on the same thread, that Joe Smith was not only a lazy no-account slug who never did an honest day's labor in his entire life, but also a driven genius who worked to fool the world tirelessly for days at a time without sleep.   After hearing the "you hide your past" claims for so many decades, since we're publishing everything and anything online for free, it's hardly surprising to find the criticism generator swinging the other way.  Your post is part of a greater trend here, @Diamondhands69.

I'm thinking this is my final opinion on the matter: Yeah, those videos are still there, and everybody can just shut up about it.  You think it's wrong, go start your own church and have your own webpage and change the emphasis on your own name.  Then you can go hide all the videos you want.

Ummm lots of videos over the years have been removed or “hidden.”
