Yesterday I sub'd and in my class a Hispanic sister missionary came to help with the 1st graders, and especially helped with a student that only spoke Spanish. So I know first hand how they go out in the community, which I think is great because I don't think as many tract like in the past.

Typical news article about the Church.  It starts out by pointing out all the things that missionaries and members of the church aren't supposed to do.  She "had to give up her first name, stop making phone calls.. surrender any time to be on her own... rules ... like a ban on premarital sex and drinking tea and coffee... aren't allowed to stay out late or watch TV or movies", etc. etc.), and the article has only one mention of our belief in Jesus Christ (other than mentioning the full name of the church), "the Church believes in Jesus but is separate from other Christian groups".  Yes, we're weird and different and restrictive (blah blah blah). 

It needs to be reversed.  I like what the Young Men General Presidency said last October about reversing this approach in a Church News podcast, where they talked about the new For the Strength of Youth manual changes:

Brother Ahmad S. Corbitt: As you say that, it makes me think that we are initiating the conversation, not reacting to, remember Elder Gary Stevenson’s conference talk?

Brother Bradley R. Wilcox: “You’re from Utah. You’re a member of the Church.”

Brother Ahmad S. Corbitt: “You’re from Utah, you can’t do this. You do that. You do this.” And someone else is framing the conversation. The “For the Strength of Youth” guide helps the youth frame the conversation.

Nice!!! The BBC is making an docu about us Mormons. I feel proud of that. Aparently we are quite interesting for the outsiders people. Otherwise BBC wouldn't make a docu about us. ✝️

It's the author's opinion. I very much value the Gospel, the Church, and despite our failings and significant progress to go before becoming a Zion people, the Saints.

Why is the autor saying something like that? About Mormons? He finds that the LDS church is messed up? 🎭

I don't understand those people. This kind of content gives the church a really bad name if you ask me. And this is from the BBC as well. Everyone will watch this. And take it for truth.

How is that fair? That's just bs if you ask me. We are not messed up in the head. Nor is our believe system. Listen.. i'm also not always agree with the way how our church is handling some thinks. But the lds church is not a cult. That's just not true. I don't understand why mormons get this image. Oh wait i do actually, because of bad media. Like also a bit with the BBC right now for example. And people just take that for truth. Without doing any resource. Independent thinking is not something that suits this this time anno 2023 unfortunatly. 🤦‍♂️

Okay if it whas only a joke than? In that case it whas funny.😂  But otherwise it would be a bit 🎭 for me also you know. 

And hurtfull as well because i'm not like those mormons. And actually...a lot of mormons are not even like that as well (with some exeptions, and we all know one or two of those kind of people in the church). But for the rest there are a bunch of lovely people in the church. I see them everywhere. And they are not messed up in the head at all. Nor do i. 

And the things that happen in the temple are kinda strange for me as well (the endowmend for example is totall weirdness and confussion for me) I also feel that way. Like you also maybe feel like that perhaps?? But i would never receive an ordiance like that anyway. I can make that choice to not go for that. Nobody in the church would forse me to do that. But...would some people judge me about that in my ward??? Oh heaven yes they would. Do i care about that??? Oh hell no i don't at all.

You need to learn who @The Nehor is, Dario. He is a believing member of the Church, and a defender of it. He is also the board equivalent of the "class cutup," and loves to kick things around and be the contrarian-in-chief. Always assume that he is just kidding. Sometimes he is kidding as well as being perfectly serious. And occasionally he is entirely serious, and demonstrates a kind of profound wisdom. <-- How often this occurs depends upon one's opinion. 🤪

Dario, do you have the stereotype of the “class clown” in your culture, the idea there is always one kid in the school class telling jokes, goofing off, pulling pranks…usually to get attention, but could be because they are bored by school or just have that personality.

Supposedly every class has one here in America, but I only remember a couple of classes my entire school years that had one.

Just curious if that is an American or maybe English speaking (since I think we talked about it in Canada when I lived there) culture stereotype or more global.

Yes every school and class in a school has that. No exeptions. The same where i used to live. 

When i whas a teenager i lived in the Netherlands back then small town Alkmaar. Name of the school Clusius College. And there where always a few clowns there in my class. But not me. Allthough i whas the one that always laught really loudly about their joke's. And also because of the look on the face of the teacher who didn't liked all that commotion.

The more chaos there whas in the class the more i injoyd it. 😌

Sometimes i laught so loud that everyone whas getting annoyed with me

Unfortunatly now i barely haven't got any diplomma's. 

Edit. But not everything whas fun though. The last year of my highschool year i got extremaly bullied because my classmates had the suspicion about me that i whas gay.
