LoudmouthMormon Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Hot off the church website (yesterday), and talked about via apostolic Tweets: Muslims and Latter-day Saints: Beliefs, Values, and Lifestyles Quote The intent of this pamphlet is to introduce Muslims (followers of Islam) and Latter-day Saints (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) to each other. At a time when societies and religious believers want and need mutual understanding, this pamphlet: - Signifies a conscientious effort to provide dignity and tolerance for Muslim and Latter-day Saint believers. Cool beans. 4
strappinglad Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I remember seeing a book in the LDS Bookstore years ago called " Mormons and Muslims ". Don't know who wrote it.

In the Catholic Church we have Apostolic Constitutions, Apostolic Encyclicals, and Apostolic Exhortations (listed in order of importance). We'll add Apostolic Tweets to the list: https://twitter.com/Pontifex 4

If this is it, it was composed of proceedings of a symposium. https://deseretbook.com/p/mormons-muslims-spiritual-foundations-modern-manifestations-spencer-j-palmer-78254?variant_id=20397-ebook 2

Calm Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 After I moved to Utah Valley almost 20 years ago, I went to an Interfaith roundtable discussion where a Muslim leader of SLC spoke about how one of the best kept secrets of Utah was it was one of the best places in the US to raise a Muslim family because of many shared standards. I had not realized there was even a community there…hasn’t lived in Utah for 20 years and then at BYU, I had pretty much ignored Salt Lake Valley except for the zoo to be honest. https://www.deseret.com/2004/2/25/19814283/utah-faiths-pursue-amity Also… http://jur.byu.edu/?p=2285 2

Sounds about right. I had a Muslim neighbor in the dorms my freshman year at BYU. I asked him what interested him in attending and he said that his older brother had gone to a school for a semester at Chico State and really hated it. At the time, Chico State was a major party school. Anyway, he ended up meeting some Mormons while he was up there (and not partying) and found out that they had a lot in common, lifestyle wise. So he transferred to Ricks and told the rest of his family that they would find transitioning to America a lot easier if they were to go to a Church school. 2
Tacenda Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I wonder if this is because we have alot of immigrants from the middle east since soldiers were pulled out. And I'm thinking places of worship will make them feel more at peace.
why me Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) The term Muslim is very general as the word Christian. There are many sects in Islam as they are in Christianity. What is a Muslim? And what is a Christian? Some Christian sects do not recognize the Church as a Christian church. Likewise in Islam. Some Muslims would not be considered Muslim by some Islamic sects. So in which Muslim sect do the lds have the most common with? Certainly not the Taliban or ISIS. Or with the Islam that is practiced in Iran? Maybe not. I think that the lds have much in common with Ahmadiyya, and Sufism. And this is the problem with the article: it is too general. https://iupress.org/9780253015235/from-sufism-to-ahmadiyya/ Edited January 25, 2022 by why me

Since then I understand there is an increase in interest. 1
