The Nehor Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) 10 hours ago, Robert F. Smith said: You really have it in for the guy, Nehor. You have missed the point that the scholastic tradition usually includes everyone copying one another. In fact, you can't get a doctorate without doing exactly that today at any university. That's what Michel did then. Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis comes from the Hermetic tradition, as does Tommaso Campanella’s Civitas Solis/Città del Sole, as does Thomas More’s Utopia. There was nothing at all new under the sun, Nehor. As to being burnt at the stake: Magus Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake by the Inquisition in 1600 simply because he taught things like the plurality of inhabited worlds, the infinity of the universe, and heliocentrism (Copernican astronomy). Galileo wisely recanted. Magus Michael Servetus was burned at the stake by John Calvin simply because he also had wrong ideas. Of course, in England, the last great sorcerer, Sir Isaac Newton, was honored rather than being vilified. The scholastic tradition wasn’t big on quoting everything and using references but the wholesale copying utterances from the oracle at Delphi and claiming they came from you casting a horoscope (badly) is just laziness. He was bad at horoscopes. He didn’t factor in birth location or date correctly. He estimated and did it wrong. I am not suggesting that if he was conscientious about it that his predictions would be more accurate but if you can’t even put it in the work to try to use the system you aren’t a scientist or a sorcerer. You’re a quack. Bruno was tried for the same reasons Galileo was. He was a pompous jackass who ticked off everyone he met. I am not saying that it is justification for killing the guy but that is why he died. He didn’t die for practicing mysticism. Newton was sincere in both science and his metaphysical obsessions with Daniel and Revelation and all the rest. He was trying to find truth. Nostradamus was peddling subpar astrology work for cash. To put it in Book of Mormon terms Newton wanted the wisdom and revelation of the prophets while Nostradamus was in it for the priestcraft. Edited December 29, 2021 by The Nehor 1

One of the great laughs at online End-Times forums is people asking the “experts” about what the Bible says about America in the Last Days. When told nothing they get almost apoplectic over how God would leave out the most important nation on Earth. How could God say nothing? Makes me smile when I read Nephi’s apocalyptic vision. 1

It did away with the irrationality of the metaphysics of only counting sense perception as "real", and cracked the foundation of the fallacy of Positivism, while Romanticism laid the seeds for including the justifiability of spiritual experience as part of rational human experience, and set the stage for William James' "Varieties of Religious Experience". Yes, and Joseph Smith was the Romantic par excellence. 1

My assessment of Nostradamus is accurate. The weirdness of the comparison is a separate issue. Nostradamus didn’t bring any great truths to mankind, wasn’t created to inspire or improve humanity, and didn’t have any real moral or spiritual component. Just weird to try to compare them. 1
