Status of church normalization

  1. 1. To what extent is your Sunday meeting schedule "back to normal?"

    • All meetings are still virtual only
    • Sacrament meeting is in person, but 2nd hour is virtual only
    • Both hours are offered in-person
    • Hybrid: In-person sacrament meeting alternates between segments of the ward
  2. 2. What is the level of "mitigation protocols" enforcement in your church meetings? (masks,

    • Stringently enforced/insisted upon
    • Whatever people want to do, in practice

18,468 lives lost.  Meh...right?  Why should I wear a mask?!

How many in each ward boundary is that?  Probably "dozens", at least.

In my ward it has been zero.

it is a .00256% death rate when the population of az is considered at 7.2mm.

**** correction to above figure ***

The death rate 18646  / 7,200,000 is .0025 which can also be expressed as

- one quarter of one percent- or one fourth of one person out of every one hundred persons

my mistake to put the percent at the end of .0025

**** correction complete***

wear a mask if it makes you feel better. It is a placebo and just a visual tool to say look we are doing something. I’m not  accountable to you so you will just have to get over me not wearing it.

I have to wear it at work and still got it.

116 stakes according to one website…don’t know how up to date it is.  On average 160 per stake dead.

Yep, probably at church.

The death rate for this In the us is roughly ~1.8%. 98.2% survival rate hardly enough to shutdown the world

I'm not a COVID-19 alarmist, and I think various entities have shot themselves in the foot by dispensing inconsistent or confusing advice, employing double standards, and other such things.  That said, regarding your roughly 2% figure, if only 100 people got the disease and if, roughly, only two of them died (as undeniably tragic as those two deaths might be), that would be one thing.  However, multiply that by the 36.7 million people in the US who have gotten COVID-19 and that "measly 2%" (my phrase) becomes a much-more-significant 734,000.

P.S.: If somebody dropped a nuke on Seattle WA and wiped out the entire population, while I'm not a betting man, I dare say that even you would be up in arms about such a thing, SCC.

Maybe they have better data than the state of az.

Maybe they update more often on a weekend, give it a day or two to see if it gets changed on the state site. I would trust a state site first after weekends are over. But I can see a state saving money by doing a once a day update while NYT gets attention by having up to the minute news.

This may be a news flash but they are not all mormon. 2x that many die of heart disease. We know how to prevent the majority of those cases but we keep whistling past the graveyard.

Either way I’m not worried about it. When we were wearing masks they had over 100 dying per day. That said it isn’t that I don’t care about it it is just the masks didn’t work. Everyone I know got COVID. Most everyone of them were wearing masks whenever required.

Yea I actually served in war over just 911 where those deaths were nominal esp in light of a nuke comparison. What did you do after 9/11?

I also did my part and wore a mask. I still got COVID.

Second class…

If you got a vaccination, I don’t have the energy to debate wearing a mask to be honest.  I think it is the right thing to do and very important in areas with significant cases, but a vaccination most likely keeps you out of the hospital not taxing that system directly.

I have been in many wards where bishops have helped nonmembers in need through welfare/fast offerings or members have started fundraisers and other campaigns in the ward for nonmember neighbors.  The most unusual was renovating a home to sell after a father had been horribly killed in a home invasion.  Family just couldn’t stomach coming back to it and had already moved out of ward boundaries and the ward still took it over and got it buyer ready with everything cleaned, freshly painted, and carpets replaced where necessary…and this was a well off family (he was a doctor, it was an angry patient), but so under stress someone needed to do the grunt work of the house for the mother.  I think her brother worked with the ward, but lived elsewhere.

Your math is off by a factor of a 100.

Use ur phone calculator and divide 18,646 by 7,200,000.00.

18646 is the death figure for Arizona since March 20. 7.2mm is the population of the state.

post a screenshot of it

Are you suggesting that you want me to start criticizing you for eating a donut?  I shouldn’t worry about non-members in my ward though, right? They are hardly my neighbor.

The comparison to heart disease is absurd.

I would agree however that we should be more focused on prevention with heart disease (I doubt that you are advocating for that though - just more what aboutism).  I have long complained on this site that many of the woes in medicine would be solved if we invested more heavily in prevention than treatment.  I have long been a loud advocate for heavy prevention in medicine, which is why I was attracted to public health.

It is not like we all don’t know how to prevent HD.  The difference is that we actually believe the medical field when it comes to HD, and how to prevent it.  I don’t need to convince people that the medical establishment is not lying, or that eating healthy really works!  We don’t believe them when it comes to COVID though, hence the persistent voices to listen to consensus in the medical field.  Because your disbelief doesn’t just affect YOU and your health/wellbeing with Covid, like it does with heart disease.  The anger because people will trust radio personalities over the medical establishment, up until they get really really sick from Covid, that is, infect a lot of other people, and beg for a vaccine right before they are intubated.  The anger is because you can give me Covid and potentially be a vector in a chain of countless unnecessary infections/suffering/death.

If you die from heart disease it is sad.  If you expose my brother or father to Covid because of your unwillingness to practice prevention, then I am angry.  If I am immunocompromised, I am pissed!  If anyone dies from Covid because of your unbelief...

It is like comparing dying from alcoholism, vs killing someone from drunk driving.  The one only affects your health, the other kills other people.  Naturally, people are going to be much more vocal and angry about drunk driving.  The same is true with Covid for the same reasons.

Get inoculated and wear a mask. If they work what do you need to worry for? If you can’t handle it, stay home and ride it out.

I wasn’t hospitalized last time. Now I have the antibodies so…

When you use a percentage you multiply by 100. Like if one out a hundred dies that’s 1% not .01%

My kids can’t get vaccinated.

I have loved ones with cancer and are immunocompromised.  Vaccines don’t work so well with them.

I also worry because hospitals are at 102% capacity at IHC.   If I, or anyone I love, is injured in an accident or otherwise needs serious medical attention, they are hosed!

Living in a bubble is not a possibility for most.  How cruel of you to suggest that over simply wearing a mask.

PS masks are not close to 100%. That is why the medical field is pleading for all to wear masks.  It compounds the efficacy when all are masked. More layers!

Will you at least admit that your heart disease comparison sucks, or are you going to keep parroting your favorite news/radio personality instead of listening to public health professionals who actually know how to calculate percentages?

What is IHC?

did you say here masks are not close to 100%? I have been saying that the whole time.

if you are at risk don’t go out. Nothing cruel about that. My mother has been in a rest home and has not been outside since March 2020. No one there got COVID.

stay inside if you are that worried. The chances you take are up to you. I wore a mask the whole time when it was required and so was pretty much everyone else. I think 100% of my coworkers and family got COVID despite the masks. Wearing them doesn’t work and you know it.

Masks do work.  It is a medical fact.  You have scientist and medical doctors telling you this.  And now you even have the prophet telling you this.  But you know better?

IHC = largest hospital system in Utah.  All others are maxing out too.

No one has ever claimed that they are 100%.   You really have no clue where the medical establishment is coming from, or what their claims are, do you?

Again, I’m not that worried about me.  But, if by chance I had a medical incident at home, Covid deniers/down players would still be hosing me.  My hospital care would be crap, if I was lucky enough to get a bed in time.

I am not really scared about getting hit by a drunk driver either, but heck ya drunk drivers piss me off.  You seem to be completely ignorant of the risk.
