MustardSeed Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Today we had many “just wanted to says” but lots of women participated today. I guess my plea to the internet universe was effective. 1

Have you ever noticed that often times, women especially in a mixed sex crowd will state the following preface after being called upon: “I just wanted to say...” etc. I hear that as an apologetic way of introducing thoughts.? I rarely hear men say that. They do, but not nearly as often as the women. Pet peeve, now passed into the internetic universe. Thanks, I feel much better. Edit to say, I don’t think the men are to blame. Ladies of my ward, step it up!! Not in any ward I have been in for the past 35 years at least. 1

I don't think that is what most women have in mind when they ask their husbands to close the toilet... I don't think they really care if we close it before or after we flush, they just want it closed. Physics may rule, but it doesn't set the rules. From the article: I don't know how we have survived death from toilet geysers for so long now. It's good to know so we can be safer in the future. Never cease to be amazed at the useful stuff I learn here. Edited November 19, 2018 by Bernard Gui

No need to resort to ridicule of others. I don’t entirely agree. As absurd as some things are, it often takes humor to get some folks to recognize the absurdity — just as it sometimes takes Socratic questioning to spotlight logical inconsistency that might not otherwise be readily apparent in a position.

I partially agree and a perfect world the whole concept would be irrelevant. In the current world too often the dislike of identity politics comes from those in a position of power feeling their voice is no longer dominant in areas where they were previously ignorantly explaining to others how they should feel and act in their current circumstance and drowning out the voices of those with first hand experience of being in that circumstance. Of course as with almost everything some take this too far and tie their identity too far into something and the more ridiculous play competitive victimization games to try to acquire some kind of victimization superiority thinking that it will give them more of a voice. That being said excessive use does not discredit appropriate use. 1

MustardSeed Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 I have never seen a group dissect stuff as much as this one does. It’s like you all are trying to be the most intelligent, the most enlightened, the most aware. It’s exhausting! I’m aware that I can simply walk away, but it was my thread and I’m trying to stay plugged in til it’s done.

It is a window into the soul of anyone who could find this funny when the problems with have been so well explained. The toilet lid thoughtlessness begs the question. There is no reason for men to be standing in front of anything but a urinal. I think the only reason such an unhygienic practice has been allowed is because it is usually women cleaning up after them. It’s a gross learned habit where the convenience of the male is given priority over those who have to deal with the results. For heaven’s sake, think of others and sit down. I agree. It should never be allowed. I propose another constitutional amendment banning the practice, as well as a new federal branch of law enforcement, with cameras in every stall or bathroom. Privacy is simply a thing of the past and we all know it anyway. And what does it matter now that we're all equal and gender differences have been erased? We have to protect the environment! I am certain that toilet plume contributes to global warming as well. How could it NOT? It's simply horrifying. I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight. Edited November 19, 2018 by mfbukowski

I have seen it referred to in a couple of TV shows and I don't watch sitcoms, so I don't think it is all that new. I have to go wash myself after my dog licks me seeing I have seen her lick her butt even more. It may be an obsession on my part, but I am thinking once it registers with someone it might be hard to forget. If people are grossed out by that, thy might confine themselves to a bubble if they knew what the microbial world was really like all around them. There is E.coli - poop - just about everywhere, and much worse things too! I guarantee that you have ingested more poop from eating out then you ever will from leaving the lid open and brushing your teeth. There is poop in the soil, on produce, on unwashed hands, in the dust that we breathe, along with nastier bugs like clostridium botulinum (botulism) and clostridium tetani (tetanus), and other nasty buggers. 1/3 of the population has staff in their nose and another fraction of those actually carry MRSA around in their noses! We are literally covered with little nasty buggies all over us. I can guarantee you that your cell phone is way more nasty than your toothbrush - I've personally done swab tests and cell phones and carpet were by far the most nasty surfaces at UVU. Is your skin crawling yet? Having said all of that, I'll be honest, I closed the lid before flushing after having our conversation. Now look what you have gone and done to me! There goes my irrational mind making me do silly things. 1

I was once told it is "semi-manipulative to bring candy" to my primary class of children with clinical psychological needs (not related to candy). Since this was shared by a psychologist who was also male, I gave it all the consideration it deserved.
