Especially when soaking wet. We just had a family water balloon fight in the backyard.

Schlurrrrrrrrrrp! (Pulling them away from the body).

I really like one-piece, and much prefer the Corban to cotton or anything else. Cotton tends to get longer over time (I had both cotton and Corban on my mission).

I would like merino wool.

To each his own, of course! I've worn Dri Lux since it was introduced. (I was living in America at that point and was actually asked to test it.) Before that, I wore cotton mesh. I really loved that. I was told it was discontinued because people had trouble not getting holes in their cotton mesh garments, but I never had that problem.

Add in the fact that I don't like anything to be tucked in, and you can probably conclude that I tend to the 'light and loose' end of the spectrum. That Dri Lux has moved to internet only worries me that it may be disappearing if the new stretch cotton is more popular. I really hope to still have something that wears like a pair of boxers but isn't made of suffocating nylon ...

Just got caught up on this thread. I had the luxury of reading from the beginning knowing the outcome. I read the original list of predictions from Bill and thought "wow, he really did have some inside info." That last point about the Salt Lake temple made it clear he wasn't just making it up. Then I watched so many people pile on, insult, and mock him. I kept reading, sure that when the post dates got to the end of conference, that there would be a lot of "sorry Bill, you were right" posts. Nope. Nothing like that. I'm kind of disappointed.

Because he wasn’t right

Anyone that has studied church history knows that the church has changed drastically since 1830. There's even a valid argument that it isn't even the same church as key policies, and doctrine have been modified or abandoned over the decades. Even the official name of the church changed twice, with the second name not even containing Christ's name.

We will continue to see big changes in the church as the people change. Overall I'm encouraged by the direction the church is heading. We're becoming Christians again!

Speaking as someone with ADHD, and young kids with ADHD, two hour church is the greatest thing ever!

Were we ever not Christians?

My predictions for the next 10 years:

  • The correlated history of the church will drastically change to inoculate members against troubling facts. This is already happening, so not much of a prediction
  • Joseph Smith Translation will be removed from our scriptures and lesson manuals. If you are wondering why, look up "Adam Clarke's Bible Commentary"
  • Wards will be smaller in size, and more will be in the same building.
  • The missionary program will become less about proselyting and more about giving meaningful service. Think of all the good our missionary force will do!

My prediction for the next 20 years:

  • Book of Mormon will be seen more and more as inspired myth. Same with pearl of great price. Still revered and read often, but with the understanding that they are not literal records of ancient people.
  • Women will be ordained to an office in the priesthood. This could happen sooner!
  • Masonic rituals to be abandoned in our temples. Replaced with rituals that aren't as weird and shocking to our day in age.
    • Garments will be abandoned.
    • Word of wisdom will not be a temple question. This is the way it was 100 years ago. This will allow people that are struggling with the vices of drugs and alcohol to receive the blessings of the temple to help them overcome their addictions.

My prediction for the next 30 years:

  • Same sex marriages will be allowed and accepted. No doubt in my mind this will happen. I just hope it happens sooner.

I predict few if any of these things will happen

Actually, I see more of this than not....interesting.  I hope to live this long.

I agree with all of these except the elimination of WoW TR question and abandonment of garments.

We talked sometime back about the length of construction time on the Salt Lake temple. My brother-in-law is a Salt Lake temple worker. He was told in his meetings that it would be 3-4 years. From what I understood there are foundation/leak issues somewhere that need to be taken care of.

I’ve been one for 51 years. And my parents before me. And my mother’s parents and grandparents and great grandparents before her. (Dad’s kin were Catholic Christians).

That you think he had inside information mystifies me. Almost everything on his list was bogus and it all could be explained by rampant rumors.

Do you think he was lying?  Has he a history of telling lies?  I don’t know much about him other than what I’ve read on here, but he seems honest and sincere (I don’t agree with all he posts though).

I imagine he does know some who may work for the church and was just relating what he’d heard.  He definitely got some of the changes right (and maybe some others are still coming that he heard about?).

Actually, the damage is not too bad.  As long as the foundations are still strong, we can rebuild the Temple.

Yeah, those foundations are gone. Sorry.

Do you know more about it? I got the info from my SIL who got it from her husband who got it from whoever. I got the impression it wasn't the foundation itself, but the foundation surrounding the temple though I don't really have any clue how that worked.

Everything on the list can be explained by rumors and/or aspirational thinking (h/t Greg Prince for that term) except the renovation closure of the SL Temple.  That doesn’t prove an inside source but it adds some credibility to Reel’s claim.

Is the entire temple going to be closed, or will the brethren still have access to the celestial room and holy of holies?

To whom are you putting this question?

The renovation can be somewhat explained by rumors as well. Just called my BIL to find out more clearly what he told my SIL.  These rumors have been going around for years.

What they have now been told is that renovation will not happen till 2020.

Part of the problem is with the dressing rooms etc that are under the lawn area. The membrane in the roof under the lawn was made for 30 years, was done in the 60s and is now leaking. They have not been told what has planned for, but they assume this is part of it. They are also assuming there will be some seismic modifications done.

I'm not going to argue over him (Reel) getting it from inside sources. I think it is entirely possible. Most people realize this. I think what bothers most people is that the "inside source" thing from him comes across to them as smarmy and patronizing.

Anyone who knows or has heard anything about it. I haven't heard anything, yet it's hard to imagine the brethren won't have immediate access to the temple.

That's fair.  I didn't receive it that way but I get why others may have.

Interesting info.  Thanks for sharing!

I hadn't heard of an extended closure on the SL Temple but it is my understanding that they close each temple every few decades for an extended period (something longer than the more common 2-3 month closures) for major upgrades, maintenance, and renovations.  Still I think whether it is 3, 4, or 5 years as a planned closure - that's probably longer than most.  This is understandable considering the age and side of the edifice and does seem worthy of at least a mention in Gen Con (whereas other temple closures don't usually get such a comment).

I've heard that every temple has a room that can be converted to a Holy of Holies.  If the Brethren are not able to access the SL Temple, I wonder if they'll switch to another nearby temple.
