It wasn’t that long ago that LDS Leaders were giving God the credit for the ingenuity of these electronic devices, and claiming they were designed specifically to advance the Lords work.

They still claim that today.  They also claim (and have claimed for years) that there are also negative consequences from electronic device use.  Seems pretty reasonable.

Somehow, I don't think that an interest in assuring that everyone, including those not addicted to electronic devices, has access to the relevant document has anything to do with a worry about likes and Tweets.

If it were otherwise, then I would imagine that President Nelson might make a request for such likes and retweets.  Although I note that there are those who do this anyway. One such is my 28-year-old stepson, who occasionally posts on Facebook self-created memes that admiringly repeat things that President Nelson has said. Another is a grandson-in-law of mine who likes to tweet things he likes that Church leaders have said.

You really do make every possible effort to find fault and make imprecations, don't you?  I'm sure someone admires your dedication to the cause.

Right.  So it makes sense to give our youth something like, For the Strength of Youth, which teaches them correct principles.  It is also an invaluable aid to parents and other church leaders as they strive to teach our youth correct principles.  You and President Nelson seem to be on the same page.

Our ward banned the use of electronic devices during Sacrament Meeting a while back.  Since then, other wards in our Stake have done the same.

It is amazing how this simple policy has improved our sacrament meetings.

Last night I was late to a stake meeting where all the ward council members came together to counsel over the matter of ministering.  I sat down and got out my tablet to take notes while the Stake President was talking, only to have the darned thing shout loudly "You have reached your destination!"  (I'm new to the area and needed GPS to get me there)  Everyone got a good laugh out of it.  Except me, actually. Was rather embarrassed.

And then, during the individual ward breakout, my phone decided to chime out with the same darned message!  Again, while the SP was consulting with our bishop on what we were to discuss.  

I was using my phone's GPS to get there, but not the tablet's.  But apparently the phone colluded with the tablet on the GPS thing.  They're both Android and share my Google Maps account -- very sneaky .

They should rip it up because it has become an idol that people worship, its ineffective at teaching principles, and its hindering mature development that is so critical for our youth.  It actually is worshiped by adults too, even though the very title says the advice is for youth, many adults have been fooled into thinking that the advice in that book is a higher law of sorts to follow.  So messed up...

Yes, I can see the difference.  I've read plenty of rule books in my time and I've also read For the Strength of Youth.  They are clearly different. 

You seem to want to teach the principle of teaching correct principles, without actually teaching any principles.

I don't know what device you own, but I have little switches on the sides of my Apple devices that allow me to put them in silent mode.  Just a suggestion.

That's the difference. Most attending LDS will comply with requests, counsel, guidance, etc. from their leaders.

Me? I've always been, and always will be a paper book guy. I can't even turn off a confiscated smart phone in class.

The wording under the Law of Chastity is very useful and helpful in teaching and interviewing. Can't be said better!

There are other things, like the wording in much of the Proclamation, that come in handy. People were shocked when our kids were really little, but we memorized the Proclamation as a family. Even our four-year old was able to! And they have access to the wording for a number of teaching and explanation situations.
